[it has been a little while--and isn't occurring on the correct day--but with a sharp crackle of static over the speakers, a familiar musical tune heralds the return of a voice that everyone has undoubtedly missed. if Diamond had truly been sick as claimed, she must have completely recovered. she sounds as bright and enthusiastic as ever.]

Good morning, passengers! ...Goodness, it's nice to be back. I have missed you all so very much.

I'd like to give a warm thanks to Beau for filling in for me, and will just jump right in to this week's Shuffle!

[and only those from a modern, Christmas-celebrating region of Earth would probably recognize the significance, but there is definitely the sound of jingle bells chiming away in the distant background]

We have three new faces joining the ranks this week, replacing the... one... [and she sounds quite unsure about this] ...that is no longer with us. Also, Captain Harvey is giving up her rank as she is transferred to the Red Fish, leaving Captain Flora to take her place! Congratulations on the promotion, dear.

[there is no canned applause this week, but--by the sounds of it--two pairs of hands clap relatively near the receiver.]

And I hope you all take the opportunity to stretch your legs on the local planet while you can. The weather is absolutely delightful this time of year, but you should bundle up anyway! Complimentary winter gear can be found in your lockers, but please dispose of properly upon exit of the planet's range, or serious injury may occur.

Cheer up, Robin! From the sounds of it a planet's coming up. We can all get outside, get some real air, move around a little, shake things up.

I mean, they could at least explain whether or not these mittens are going to turn into acid, or something.

That would be an incredible transmutation of matter if it happened. I'd like to see how they'd manage it.

And I'd like to not have my skin sloughed off. Even if it's for science.

They don't seem to be deriving entertainment value from killing us so far, so if we follow instructions, it sounds like we'll be all right.

That said, if they're giving us winter gear I expect the planet might be quite cold. You could try buying your own gear there.

Oh... Maybe they'll have nicer clothes. [c-cheering up.] Now that's a reason to go outside.

[Wait, Cecil actually transferred? That came as a surprise to Kaneis- almost as much as the idea of Flora captaining. The girl can't even swear, does she have the skin to even handle this?]

[Oh well. It was only mildly his problem really. Not like he had an qualms going against a captain if need be anyway. Still, his tone is rather dry from that and the rest of the news]

Oh good. A new captain, clothes that could maim us annnd having to go to a wintery hell. Again. [For him anyway] And I was worried this day would suck.

Look on the bright side: they warned us about the sweaters.

Oh yeah, that is nice of them.

Though seriously, it's not really making me feel at ease with the idea of wearing them. Who would make a sweater that causes serious injury if not disposed in time?

I suppose the planet's surface must be very cold, and I personally would rather not spend money on winter gear I won't use again. Too bad we won't get to keep the clothes permanently, though.

Ah, of course.

I wouldn't say we won't need winter gear again. There's probably a lot of worlds with their own cold regions. 'Sides I wouldn't mind having more clothing that doesn't have a chance to kill me.

'Course, that's assuming this rock has more ways of earning money than the last place.

Perhaps we'll get lucky and our captors will provide us with more if we need it.

Seriously though, it wouldn't hurt to make sure your crew can take care of itself without Atroma's help. Because if they're anything like people I've dealt with before, their favor and hospitality could turn at any moment.

And, your ratings might raise if you guys do something interesting. I'm just saying.
