I have a hard time believing you didn't just invent that.

What law is this?

Have you heard of the law of conservation of mass? Of energy?

Yes.

What has physics got to do with stories?

Physics define everything, in its way, as point of fact.

Energy and matter are conserved. Information is conserved. And stories are a special sort of information. Which sounds quite funny, I am certain.

But this? [He glances around.] Is plainly a pocket realm of some sort, whose laws will not be the same as the ones you expect. It runs upon the logic of my dreams.

As has been made clear. You like books; you hoard knowledge. So: you seek power.

There is value in not being known, and thus underestimated. It is only effective once. Better to know a little, and have your enemies fear you.

Very literal of you. [Though not really off base.]

Ah, the heady days before the infamy really kicks in. At any rate, the point is more--conservation of stories. I'd daresay in order to leave this dimension, you shall have to replace the stories you have taken with an equal weight of your own.

It is a fair bargain. Tell me, what stories please the son of Frigga? Might, or cunning?

Cunning, of course. Trickery and traps are the most interesting, yes? One does get bored of the variations of and then I punched the troll very hard after a while.

A very short while.

Very well. A tale of a demon's cunning.

[ And she begins. ]
