[Her expression doesn't betray any reaction to his grouchiness, but she does come in the room and crouch to take a look at what he bought. What did he buy, anyway?]

[he hands it over like he doesn't want to see it anymore... and it really does just kind of look like a panel of white plastic, with a cord that may or may not need to be attached at all times, and a few identical buttons along one edge.

...but then he holds out a little plastic stylus, and that probably makes the whole thing make way more sense in context.]

[She takes the stylus from him, glancing in between all factors... yep. This makes sense.

Taking a guess:]

You want to hook it up with the computer so you can use this to broadcast text? [It won't just work by itself, huh?]

[he nods! and then motions angrily at the computer screen, which is currently doing absolutely nothing. and that might be the problem.

then, he holds up a finger, making sure she's watching as he starts the whole process over again.

first, he unplugs the cord from one of several absolutely identical ports, and plugs it back in again. this calls up a prompt on the screen... which asks in aggravatingly vague language that the device be plugged into the proper port and run through its calibration sequence.

so, he reaches over to the tablet in her hand and presses a random button. and the computer seems to not like this at all, because it causes a merry little 'beep' of error, and the prompt closes down. leaving them with a blank, waiting screen again.

...without further instruction, it might take a gauntlet of trial and error to figure it out.]

[Nice. Nice. If this thing can be made to work, it'll be great, but she'd sort of rather circumvent ten thousand hours of pushing buttons and plugging cables in if she can. Plus, if Coil is also a lab augment and can't figure this out... she doesn't have latent acquaintance with tech of this level.

Hm.]

Where'd you buy this, kiddo?
mortalcoil: (I wouldn't say anything anyway)

[he runs through the letters for S-T-O-R-E, whether or not she keeps up with it, and waves in the vague direction of... not here. he doesn't know how to easily explain in better detail.]
aberrant_type: (oh i may faint)

If you want to take it back and ask for more instructions I'll go with you.

[Since he can't exactly demand, and probably can't be quite as insistent and inconvenient, as she can. Not expecting anything though.]

[he glances at her, eye quickly ticking over the details of her face, but it's very brief. and the pause that follows is him maybe giving it some consideration.

but he shakes his head pretty quickly. there are a few reasons at play, but he's annoyed enough to spell out the biggest one of them.

he points out beyond the ship again, and spells I-D-I-O-T-S.]

[She squints... and thinks about that... and shrugs.]

Well, it's your call. [Regarding this thing? Totally.]
mortalcoil: (I wouldn't say anything anyway)

[he just shakes his head again. he's convinced that it wouldn't do any good.]

If you change your mind let me know.

[he looks more than a little uncertain, somewhere under all the annoyance and frustration, and gives the offer another sideways glance.

but he eventually nods.]

[She actually will just leave him to it unless he comes and gets her. Good luck, kiddo.]
