[Al had had plenty of time to find his way around and meet the crew, seeing as how he wasn't being forced to sleep any more- so he knew the young man he found in the kitchen wasn't part of the crew. However, that didn't mean he didn't belong there- Al wasn't sure how often new crewmembers arrived, after all.]

Hey- are you new to the ship?

Ah-

[He turns his head to look over his shoulder. Huh. A talking suit of armor. Okay.]

N-Not exactly. I'm actually visiting your captain...?

Oh, okay! [Al moved closer, curious.] Can you actually cook with this stuff...?

Um...Maybe?

[He grins a little sheepishly]

I know enough not to poison myself, but I wouldn't exactly call myself a good cook.

[thebloodseal]

[Al laughed.]

I can't say I've had much experience with it myself... much less with protein cubes and stuff. I don't need to eat, but it's still interesting to watch someone try to put together a decent meal from it.

You don't need to eat? [He blinks in surprise, but at least there's not as much shock after meeting Pearl] Er, sorry, but is that a common thing on this ship?

Well, it's true for at least me and Pearl! I'm sure it saves on the food bills somewhat... and if protein is all we're provided aside from what we can buy ourselves, I'm kind of glad I can't eat.

But eating's wonderful.

[He sighs as he leans against the counter]

We all eat on the Blue Fish, so every meal time, we always sit down and eat together. It's great- we talk and share delicious food together. Or, just food, if it's only proteins.

There's eight of us and a few of us eat a lot so it's not always cheap, but... [a shrug] I don't know, I wouldn't give up that time just to save some money.

I do sit down at everyone at meal times when I can, at least... because you're right, it's a great chance to have some camraderie. And I want to be able to get to know my crew. I arrived just before everyone else got beamed to the Marsiva, so living in close quarters with just my crew is still new.

I see...that's good. I guess it was rude of me to presume that you wouldn't sit at meal time. It's just Pearl made it sound like she couldn't stand to be in the same room as people eating...

[Well not exactly, but it was quite dramatic! He smiles a little, sympathetically]

That's right, I forgot a bunch of people are newer to the fleet. That can't have been a great first couple of months.

Could be a culture thing, too... every world we come from has different habits and customs and stuff.

[He laughed.]

It scared me a bit at first, because technically I shouldn't be able to sleep, and yet I dropped with everyone else every night. I did get used to it, but to be honest, aside from that it could be boring. Brother and I are used to always being busy.

Oh, I guess that's true...she is from another world than me.

Ha- really? So you have a brother? [....how do suits of armors have brothers? Maybe it's in a figurative way???]

Yeah- his name's Edward. He's older than me, but I feel like I'm his parent sometimes... he gets so absorbed in his work that he forgets to take care of himself a lot.

[he offers a laugh...even if it's still weird trying to imagine a suit of armor having a brother]

It's very good that he has you around.

And I'm lucky to have him. He looks after me as much as I've looked after him.

Oh! I never introduced myself- I'm Alphonse. I just got here a month or so ago.

[He smiles] Ha...you two sound like very close siblings. I'm almost a little envious.

We are, ever since we were kids, even if we did fight some times. Teacher kicked that habit out of us and taught us how to work together better.

[Al would have smiled if he could; instead, he nodded.]

So you're friends with Clay? I like him a lot so far.

[He laughs, imagining that] Good on that teacher then.

[And he smiles]

Yeah. He's my boyfriend, actually.

Teacher taught us well, even if she did have to literally kick us sometimes.

[And now that's Al practically chinhandsing.]

Really? That's awesome! Have you been together for very long?

Ah....I hope she didn't kick that hard.

Mm! We've been seeing each other since August...so about four months now?

Sometimes- but she would always patch us up afterward. Teacher could be scary, but she did love us.

I'm glad to hear you two found each other. It's great when you're away from home... it lets this place feel more normal. Like there's some good here to balance the bad out.

Yeah, I'm very lucky to have him. He's a good captain too- he cares a lot about you guys.

I could tell that from the first time we met on the Marsiva. He made a point to come see me in person and get to know me instead of just leaving it to the network.
