"Um, yeah? We were talking about grenades. They explode. Well, like unless you're going for anti-personnel glue grenades, but they haven't outfitted us with less lethal weapons."

...that's what they were talking about, right?

Some day I will get to use an icon other than the Frysquint...

"Why are you talking about food? Are you hungry? You should talk to Vision if you don't like the protein cubes, he might have some more bacon seaweed."

...wait, what?

"I'm the security officer. Why would I be here about food?"

Good thing that Wrath was prepared to handle this mistake with her normal good cheer and tact. She was very good at tact. "Oh. Well, that's dumb," she said, laughing. She wasn't entirely sure what a wench was, even, though she was pretty sure she'd heard the word in some historical fantasy holos. Yeah, that was right, she could even picture it... "If I was a wench I'd like have a serving tray and my tits would be sticking out."

The implication wasn't actually insulting, as such. Waiters and stuff worked hard. Just not right. "I'm a soldier." She didn't even feel bad saying that any more, even if she was on disability for her back still, because Jim was her CO and Natasha was her direct CO and neither said she had to be a civilian. "I run the weapons on this ship. We don't have anyone who does serving anything, not with food. Cause we don't have a cook."

"I don't know what that means, but yeah. I was the lieutenant of Wrath Platoon in the Proles Army mobile infantry for over a decade. Till I got thrown out a ninety-ninth story window and got farmed out on disability."

She eyed him. Big guys tended to be like that, except for Maine. He'd been different. But they'd started off their friendship with a bar brawl. "You don't believe me? I'd be happy to arm wrestle you."

Bum back or not, she was still mostly artificial muscle fibers and composite bones.

"Thanks," she said. "Normally I walk with a cane, but I'm trying to go without it when I'm on the ship. Back's not being too much of an asshole today."

Okay, finally they were on the same page. "Yeah, I run the armory, so you can come check the stuff out and I'll get you setup. If you're not good with guns you should probably have Natasha show you how to shoot though. She's a lot better at it than me. I mostly do close combat."

Wow, he didn't know what guns were. He was going to need some serious help. "Uh. Projectile weapons, combustion cartridge propulsion. The ones we have... muzzle velocity is around 2,800 to 3,000 feet per second on most, which isn't bad. The rounds are nonstandard from what I know, but they're about .40 caliber, which makes them about this big--" She demonstrates with her fingers. "The recoil dampening on them is actually really good, so we could get you a bigger gun and you'd be just fine once you learn to aim it. No specialized rounds, but you can fuck someone up plenty good with these, even if they tend to overpenetrate."

...maybe she's getting a little too detailed. She makes a gun shape with her hand. "But basically you aim, you pull the trigger, and bang, whatever's down range is having a really bad day. The hard part's learning how to aim."
