[ that is literally the only thing zuko texts, because he has stepped out onto the ice planet Hoth and is promptly regretting ever doing so. firebenders rise with the sun, and zuko is a morning person, and nothing is more claustrophobic than being on a ship with no natural light, or heat, or energy -- and being outside alone is rejuvenating for him, but --

there is so much snow.

so feel free to spot him wandering around looking furious in a scarf, stubbornly melting a small patch of snow, or perusing the markets for things to buy with money that he probably asked someone else for.

or you can hit him with snow and take advantage of the fact that he is, in fact, a firebender on what is apparently a recreation of the northern water tribe. with more salt.

[Remus doesn't have the same amount of pure hatred Zuko does for the snow, but that doesn't mean he's going to go tromping in it. In fact, he steams himself a tidy little path as he heads to the market, through the snow, enjoying himself considerably.

He's intrigued as he sees a flash of flame, and heads over to the source.]

zuko watches remus plow his way through the snow, his brow furrowing in curiosity. with a slight roll of his wrist, the fire dissipates, and he slides his hands into the pockets of his coat. ]

How are you doing that?

[Which sounds glib, but he shows off his wand in demonstration.]

It's a simple spell, really-- I generate steam and simply point it where I want it. In this case, to melt a path. Might I ask the same of you? I've never seen anyone handle raw fire like that before.

I'm a firebender.

[ and zuko suspends a ball of fire between his hands after removing said hands from his coat again, warming his fingers nicely. ]

I can control and manipulate fire and heat.

[ so fuck you atroma for putting him on hoth ]

[But he's smiling-- not mockingly, simply commiserating.]

Do you mind if I ask more about your-- about firebending? I've never heard of such a thing, but you seem quite practiced in it.

[ zuko eyes remus for a moment or two, but -- he looks harmless enough. and zuko is an able fighter. it's not like many people could get the jump on him, even if they knew. ]

I can channel my energy, my inner strength, into fire. I can manipulate heat and fire around me, too. It has a lot to do with breathing and inner focus -- meditation.

[ and he suspends a ball between his hands, the ball flickering slightly with each inhale and exhale that zuko has ]

I guess I would be considered a master.

[ at least, aang seems to think so, but zuko would disagree. ]

That's fascinating. Is it only fire, or is it anything you want? Can you do fire derivatives? How quickly do you tire?

[The questions tumble over themselves, and he ought to be calmer, but he can't help it. So many different kinds of magic, so many things he has to learn-- how can he not be excited?]

Just fire, and heat. Certain firebenders can wield lightning. And the only person that can manipulate more than one element is the Avatar.

Lucky you. I can't do too many spells at once or else I tire out and I'm useless.

[That makes him sound a little less competent than he actually is, but he's not about to go around bragging.]

Why the restriction, if you don't mind my asking? Is it a specialty thing, or an honest limit, or--?

[ so much of bending is movement -- so zuko gets tired out if he's running, or fighting, or whatever. but the actual fire part doesn't seem to bother him that much. ]

-- it's just how it works, I guess. People are born manipulating one element, if they have the gift at all.
