[ His first moments of waking up are pretty typical; groggy mumbling, hands and arms flapping around and a jerk that brings him upright then standing. Something... feels wrong. ]

Wha- Where am I?

[ His hands goes to his belt, only to grasp at air. It's alright, don't panic. It's not the first time he lost his lightsaber, not the first time he's gotten a concussion with the foggy space in his memory either. He checks his right arm, gripping it along the junction where durasteel meets flesh while he takes in his surroundings.

He scowls at the video feed that looks particularly turned on. But he doesn't care about that now. His arm is brought close to his face, and his own Jedi commlink beeps. ]

Obi-Wan? [ Nothing. ] Artoo, come in. [ More nothing. ] This is Anakin Skywalker, requesting emergency-- [ An odd electrical sound and click later, he sighs. ]

Great. I better not have to ask Obi-Wan to pick me up.

[ The same arm reaches out towards the ship's communicator and it flies to into his fist. Now, the feed points away from him and through his point of view as he scans the Hospitality deck. ]

What is ... this ship? [ The communicator shuffles. ] Where is this transmitting to?

[ He is blessed with many years of being with more dignified Jedi but a dignified Jedi he is not. He barely keeps his voice down. ]

Did you- Memory theater?

[tobeajedi]

[huh YOU ARE REALLY FREAKING OUT ABOUT THIS, DUDE.]

It's the best way I can think to describe it. We did have some measure of control, kind of.

I don't blame you for being a little wigged out at the prospect. War memories?

[sandhate]

[ HE IS SO FREAKED OUT ]

It's not just war. We don't lead easy lives, after all.

How much control did you have over this?

[tobeajedi]

[YEAH. and uh. she kind of feels bad that isn't going to be reassuring but she's also fairly curious.]

...Some. The memories were connected to an object, or maybe a door. But since we didn't really know what they were at first--Well, people saw things without knowing what it was.

[she'll just leave out that she herself actively tried to get into someone's memory.]

[sandhate]

I don't like that.

[ Which is obvious. ]

My memories aren't... suitable for many- anyone to watch.

[tobeajedi]

[More than... just the sense of "it's private," then.]

Nobody does. [Sympathetic, though.] I'm... hoping that it won't happen again, but if it does, in the same way... you can try to at least keep things 'out of reach.'

[sandhate]

What do you mean? How?

[tobeajedi]

Well, in mine, the memories were connected to objects. Like a lightsaber crystal or a holocron. So you could probably try to gather them up, or hide them away, if it was like that.

[sandhate]

If it was like that, hiding them away seems like a bad idea. People will wonder what you're doing hiding away those things.

[tobeajedi]

Yeah, there is that. [like, tbh. she would go looking. 'cause she DID go looking.] You wouldn't want to get into a battle in your own mind.

The other thing... not everyone really remembers what happened during that. Some do, but others don't. That's not the greatest assurance either, but it's... something, maybe.

[sandhate]

[ That's not assurance at all... ]

What was the aftermath? How did everyone take it?

[tobeajedi]

It depends from person to person. You might want to ask some other folks about it. I didn't have... too terrible a time, but I know there are other people in the Fleet who have the kinds of memories that you must.

I did see a pretty unhappy memory of Ahsoka's. You could ask her.

[sandhate]

[ He just might... But he might get a more honest answer from Vima. ]

What did you see?

I saw the day she left the Jedi Order.

[sandhate]

[ He lets out a heavy sigh. ]

It was an unhappy day for all of us. The Order lost one of its best that day.

[tobeajedi]

It sure looked like it.

When did the Jedi Council decide that "the will of the Force" was a way to avoid responsibility for their own mistakes?

[sandhate]

[ There's a hint of anger ] It's a good excuse, isn't it. I've been told that ... it's not my place to question the Council's will. Even when it concerns my own Padawan.

It doesn't matter. She left.

Speaking as someone who got pretty far by questioning the Council--or at least what counted for it in my time--that sounds like a lot of hot air.

I only saw the last few minutes of her time in the Order, but it seems to me like they left her.

[sandhate]

[ His chin tip upwards ]

With respect, you can not judge that from the only a few minutes. The Council, as wrong as they were about their decisions, had given her a chance to return. She decided not to, and she left.

[tobeajedi]

[man, those few minutes were damning as hell. but okay, since Anakin's already had a blazing argument with Ahsoka out in front of everyone, and she is missing some context, she'll try a different tack... her question is put in an honest, nonjudgmental tone.]

All right, then. What's your point of view?

[sandhate]

That was my point of view.

In our time, we all have Jedi Trials to go through in order to become a Jedi Knight. It's been less and less structured with the war, more unconventional means of Trials have been held. The Council had accepted that as her trial and wanted her to return to the Order as a Jedi Knight. But she refused.

What else is there.

[tobeajedi]

[Vima considers that for a moment. She still doesn't buy it, and she wants to know what the hell happened to bring them to the point of letting one of their own almost die.]

Well, there's this: the Masters haven't always been the best judge of who is and isn't worthy to be a Jedi.

[on both sides, sometimes.]

I think Ahsoka is a Jedi, but it isn't because they're the ones who said so.

[sandhate]

What are you trying to say, that the Masters shouldn't have granted her the rank then maybe she'll stay part of the Order?

It doesn't matter. It's over. Everyone's made their choice.

And to be honest, I think you should stay out of it.

[tobeajedi]

I mean that if they hadn't, she would still be one. You don't need to be in the Order to have the heart of a Jedi.

[in spite of his evident anger, she has to stop herself from smiling at that last statement. LIKE ANY JEDI ANYWHERE DOES THAT.]


I can tell you don't want to keep talking about this, but just so you know--if you recognize me, you'll also remember that I'm not good at staying out of its.

[ You don't need to be in the Order to have the heart of a Jedi.

He'll remember that. He has a feeling he'll need to hear it later. ]

You're a Jedi Master who is unfamiliar with the Order that exists for me and Ahsoka. I can't tell you what to do but I'm telling you now that this matter is over.

What ever happened then can't be changed. And we need to be at peace with that.
