[Anybody who ran into Castle planetside before December 23rd could find him doing a few things- browsing the local wares, exploring the salt mines, and going in and out of hunting and camping gear stores.

He was looking for something- and finally he found it, dragging a lengthy pole back to the Windrose and proudly setting it up in the cargo bay.

Once it was done, his cheery windblown face could be seen giving a thumbs-up to the camera.]

Ooo, now those sound like things I'd be good at.

And you'd probably kick my ass, let's be real. Unless it was at laser tag, then... nah, you'd still probably kick my ass.

Oh, yeah. Laser tag is like Crucible with training wheels. [Proud? Proud. Bored-proud. Shaxx says Cayde ran through the Crucible like it was a game (which, let's be honest; everything is a game to Cayde)]

Crucible, huh...? Tell me more, I am intrigued.

That's our training grounds. They shuttle a bunch of Guardians out into the wilds, the ruins, retaken battlefields, and let them run around and have at each other for about ten minutes or so. Sometimes they throw in objectives; control, salvage, sometimes it's just rumble and everyone kills everyone else.

Shaxx is in charge of it all and he'll give them better gear if they do well. Wasn't much of a challenge for me, but it's good for the little ones to cut their teeth on.

Whoa... [Castle listens, enraptured.] So it's all a simulation, I gather? How realistic are we talking?

Oh, right. I keep forgetting you guys don't know about our revives.

It's not a simulation; live ammo, full abilities, lots of rampant death. Difference is, we're Guardians, so we each have a Ghost who's able to revive us mere moments after getting grenaded in the face or whatever.

Whoa.... WHOA. [Castle's eyes went wide.] Now THAT'S a handy ability. I still wouldn't like my head going asplode, though- that sounds excruciatingly painful.

Eh -- most times it's too quick to really feel anything. [most times.] But yeah; it's pretty handy. Definitely gives us the edge against the Darkness, and I'm not gunna lie; we need all the help we can get.

With a name like Darkness, I doubt they mess around. And honestly, it's easy for me to gush about how interesting that sounds when I don't have to live it.

They're the Big Time. You got, four different races, each trying to tear you apart for their own reasons. You got - Vex hiveminds taking over Venus, Fallen waging war with the Awoken, and the Hive? Just sent one of their Gods to try and wipe us out.

Came pretty close, too, but with us Guardians there's at least a fighting chance.

Holy crap, man. Sounds like you've got your hands full back home. Me, I'll stick with the occasional serial killer and be thankful that's all I've got to deal with.

Man, yeah ... sounds like you got a vacation going on over there. I mean, I know serial killers are no joke, but still ... your world pretty peaceful otherwise?

By and large, yes. I mean, for certain values of "peaceful" given that I help solve homicide cases, and every now and then we get involved in something deeper. But we have our moments.

Moments are nice. Glad to hear something isn't totally in ruins.

It is pretty great... still, it's going to all end a few hundred years in the future, huh? That's long after I'll be gone, though, so I guess I can't fuss too much about it.

[Shrug,] Eh, maybe, maybe not. With that kind of time lapse it's anyone's guess if we're even in the same universe. There may still be some hope for you yet!

Yeah, that's true. I'm not ready to think of humanity as being doomed quite yet.

I wouldn't say doomed, but ... yeah we're the underdogs here.

Well, humans can be pretty scrappy, too. So I'll remain optimistic.

Yeah, the reports we got in were definitely worth betting on. Sad that ... I bet on the wrong guy.
