[Sokka basically lives in the kitchen. It's there or his engineering space, really. He looks up as she enters, offering her a smile and a wave of greeting. ]

Hey! You're uh...Sansa, right? Bran's sister? Welcome to the Blue Fish.

[ oh, but it's eerie! people knowing her -- recognizing her -- and identifying her as a stark, even if the name isn't said. the copper-coloured roots of her hair are beginning to show, and although she isn't hiding behind a false identity...somehow, she misses its anonymity. in the vale, only one person knew her real name.

here, everyone does. sometimes, she has to remind herself not to panic. sansa reaches deep down for a polite smile. ] Thank you. [ so kind. ] I'm sorry, you have me at a disadvantage. I do not know your name.

[He remains polite, friendly. He doesn't know everything that's happened, but he can figure out it probably wasn't anything good. They come from that sort of world.]

[ oh! something seems to click behind her blue eyes. she'd spoken with him, hadn't she? only...sansa finds the communications network so bewildering. the screens are uncanny, and to match those flat faces to reality is something of a chore.

stiffly, she curtsies. ] Captain. [ formal. controlled. ] I'm well. I have my brothers, and so I have all I need.

[He chuckles at the curtsey, waving his hands. ]

Oh, no. Sokka's just fine. We don't need formalities on here, heck, we got enough royalty here that's it's easier to just not have it at all. It'll get confusing otherwise.

[ she finds it rather confusing with formalities. alas. ]

Only -- only Sokka? [ no other name? she frowns. ]

Well, technically it's Sokka of the Water Tribe, but that's a mouthful. Just Sokka will do.

As you say. [ her smile is diluted -- ghostish. ] Sokka.

I imagine not. [ crisp -- dutiful, almost. her allegiance rests with her brothers, but sokka is the leader of this ship. it's a distinction she will not quickly forget. ] Have you been captain here for long?

[His smile turns fond and he nods. ]

Uh huh. Over a year, now. I showed up not long after this cycle of the Drift Fleet started.

[steeledskin]

[ uh-oh. ]

This...cycle. The fleet has cycles? [ her brows knit. ] What does that mean for us?

Apparently. This is supposed to be the twelfth cycle, but we don't know what happened to the people before us.

[He heaves to a sigh, crossing his arms and leaning on the wall. This still bugs him.]

They just said the one who won went home. When I asked them about people who didn't win, even people who vanished from this cycle, they didn't give me a straight answer.

[steeledskin]

[ it's all a little too much. cycles; winners; vanishings. she isn't certain she can stomach the possibility that this is merely another sort of game. she'd been a reluctant pawn in the last one, so what is she meant to be in this one? ]

All the same, Sokka, [ she exhales, ] what was their answer? Straight or not.

[ the crooked answers have become something of her specialty. ]

[Still, he won't keep it away from her. ]

They said they were safe, but every time I tried to get out of them where they were, they just said they couldn't reveal it because it would "ruin the movie magic".

They are sorcerers. [ perhaps she misunderstands 'movie magic'. but, in a sense, this is heartening. if sorcery is at the heart of this problem, then perhaps james potter can help. ]

Oh...um. Maybe?

[Wow he has got so used to slang now that he forgets some people will Not Get It. ]

It's more a figure of speech. Movies aren't really magic. It's all special effects and science.

[ bran has tried explaining movies to her; it's a process. ]

[Sokka rubs the back of his head. ]

Uh...I'm not sure what that means.

I believe they are tricking us, Sokka.

They sound like courtiers. Politicians.
