[Toph feels the new presence on the ship, but she lets it go, figuring it's someone visiting another crew member. However, when the person keeps looking around, she figures she may go have a look.

So now, with Nami in the kitchen, Toph enters and stands at the door.]

[Aha. She doesn't particularly like peering awkwardly through doorways on someone else's ship.]

I think you can, actually. We spoke a few days ago-- my name's Nami.

Oh, yeah! [Since they hadn't met in person, Toph didn't have the chance to get a read on her, so she's going in... blind. Har har.

She perks up now, acting a lot friendlier.]

Thanks! Hopefully I won't take up too much of your time.

I needed a lighter metal, so I have some aluminium. [She unslings the small struts from her shoulder, letting the ends hit the ground with a light thunk.] Can you work with that?

[Toph waits, only smirking when it hits the floor. She makes a come here motion with her two fingers, and three pieces of the metal go zooming towards her, only stopping once they're a few inches above her hand.]

Tell me what you think.

[Okay, well then. She does flinch a little as the metal struts zoom towards Toph; it's a reminder of someone else and she could have done without. But meh. After a moment, she grins.

...and then remembers she's with a blind girl, gj Nami.]

I think you've got this covered.

I brought the wooden one with me. [She pulls that from her coat, but she'll wait until Toph asks for it. It feels rude to try giving them directly over without asking first.] It's three pieces that fit together.

[She walks over, avoiding the metal laying around, and reaches out for the wooden dohicky.]

Hand it over.

Here you go. [Three pieces of polished wood, all meant to fit together as a staff. She holds onto them until Toph has a grip, then lets go.]

If you can make it hollow, that'd be great. If not-- well, it'll be sturdier than the wooden one, anyway. [And she can do with a spare in a place where the powers that be seem to like stealing weapons.]

Hmm. [Toph takes her time feeling the wood out, grooves and shapes and the like. She flicks her finger, and a piece of the aluminum comes whizzing over to her hand. It's placed on top of one piece, quickly forming around it like a second skin.]

This'll be a lot lighter than the other one. Will the change in weight affect you at all?

[Whoa. Okay, she knew from Zuko about the bending thing, but it's pretty fascinating to see such a level of control.]

...uh. It probably would, yeah. But this is only the outer shell of the weapon; once it's done it'll be close to the right weight. I'll just have to practice with it a little to adjust.

[Toph nods in understanding.]

It'll be fine. If you've got more than this-- [She shoves some of the scrap with her bare foot.]-- I can try and make it denser for weight and strength.

But I want to know, what's going in the middle?

If I'm lucky and I can track anything remotely equivalent down? Technology that'll turn it into a weather staff.

...and if I'm not, I guess I'll just stare at it a lot and call the Atroma jerks.

[Yeah she's creating half a weapon in the hopes she can finish it one day.]

[ zuko is coming out of his personnel room when he sees nami heading down the hall.

[ BECAUSE ZUKO. ]

[Wandering on past with a casual wave before she stops again.]

Is your captain a sarcastic blind girl, by any chance?

{ that causes him pause, and he turns to face her properly, blinking ]

Why do you need Toph?

[For my nefarious piratical schemes, duh. But joke's old. Nami just grins, fishing in her coat to hold up three sections of polished wood.]

She's gonna try making a weapon for me.

[honorbends]

[ he eyes them for a moment ]

... what is she using for metal?

[ warily.

is he going to have his door removed is this what's happening rn ]

[If she knew that's what you were thinking she'd totally be mean about this, but Nami puts his mind at ease instead.]

I brought her some scrap she can use. Hopefully, anyway. [It's slung over her shoulder, mostly hidden from view, but she'll turn a bit to show him. She haggled for some aluminium-ish struts from one of the mines.]

So she's from your world?

Obviously. [Dryly.] Earth Kingdom people control metal. It's clear as day.

Actually, only Toph can do that.

But in theory, only earth benders can bend metal, and they generally live in the Earth Kingdom.
