[Vima senses the presence of their newest crewmate, but she doesn't open her eyes until he speaks up. Honestly, she doesn't... really mind being caught at practicing. She kinda likes showing off, a little.]

I'm meditating. [Her brow furrows a little as the cups wobble.] Practicing with the Force.

[That's pretty weird, but intriguing all the same. B is from a world where people with abilities to do the sort of thing she's demonstrating only exist in fiction.]

What force is that, exactly?

[She laughs a little.]

It's just... the Force. I guess the first adepts just picked the most basic name. It's an energy field that's a part of all living things.

That sounds preposterous. Do you have proof that it exists?

[tobeajedi]

[Proof...?

Vima takes a deep breath and starts moving the cups around in a slow circle, hands in her lap.]

Right here?

[Well, yes ... he's watching, but.]

That could be mere sleight of hand you're using.

[Vima laughs at the skepticism even in the face of this. She holds up her hands and wiggles her fingers before plucking the cups out of the air.]

It could be, but it's not. [She stands up, looking around the kitchen, and--very slowly--lifts herself several centimeters off the ground.] Look, no wires.

[No, it's definitely not. B may come from a world without magic, a world where the most unusual thing in it is arguably him, but he was trained to be analytical, to always observe and take in details and process them through his sharp mind. And his analysis now tells him that what he's seeing isn't a trick. He chews the end of his thumbnail for a moment while he watches her closely.]

Have you always been able to do this?

[She sets herself back down on the ground, clearly pleased that she's convinced him.]

Not this much until recently. But I've always had the Force with me--it runs in the family.

Is that typical, where you're from? This sort of ability is hereditary?

[tobeajedi]

[Vima considers the answer to that question for a moment.]

It isn't... very common, but not so rare that it's unheard of. It is usually hereditary , yeah , but sometimes it'll pop up in someone with no Jedi relatives.

And what is a Jedi, exactly?

[tobeajedi]

[She laughs a little.]

A Jedi isn't exactly anything... we're knights, basically. Traveling the galaxy, helping people who are in need of it.

[brokencopy]

Knights in space? You must feel right at home here, then.

[tobeajedi]

With the space part, yeah. Is this all new for you?

[brokencopy]

[It's tempting to lie, to make a ridiculous claim that he's all too familiar with space. But it would be a flimsy lie at best, easily shredded.]

Yes. This is my first time in space.

Apart from the bit about being kidnapped so your personal life can entertain a bunch of bored strangers on other planets, what do you think of it?

[That's a good question. B hasn't put much thought to being in space, except for the fact that he's been taken away from completing his master puzzle and proving once and for all that he is better than L. The nature of space itself hasn't even crossed his radar.]

It's quite expansive.

[Which feels like a stupid thing to say; B regrets it almost immediately after the words leave his mouth.]

I never imagined I would see this in my lifetime.

[Wow, that much... of course, Vima's met a lot of people, by this point, who have never traveled in space before now.]

It is. Honestly, even after you've spent your life in ships, sometimes it'll catch you off-guard... especially when you're going through deep space.

[Mostly that is a consequence of the Force, for Vima--being alone in a sea of nothing brings it home to her.]

I would rather have been left when and where I was. I was taken from some rather important work.

Yeah, most of us would say the same, I think. [Maybe a few people in unfortunate circumstances, less so.] What kind of work was it?

I'm a detective. I was quite close to solving a serial murder case.

[Which is half true; the murders were committed by him.]

Now I suppose I will never know who was behind it.

[Which is a complete lie.]
