[Hey crew! It looks like there's some new changes that have come over the ship as well as a couple of new crewmates from the past shuffle or two! Have you been enjoying the planet, or is it too cold for you? Have you caught a nasty cold like your poor captain a few posts down, or are you a Vanquish member and are fine? No. [Al slowly lifted his head, revealing that he was indeed hollow inside.] The problem with alchemy... is that it's not always good. There was an accident when Brother and I were younger, and my body disappeared. Brother sealed my soul to this armor so that I could stay with the living.

[You're lucky there's a table between them or she'd have been poking her head inside your helmet right about now to look for herself. As it is, Katie blinks.]

You can do soul magic with alchemy?

[She feels badly for him, but souls are an interesting topic with her kind. She has two.]

Yeah. It's hard to do and it doesn't happen often, since it separates the soul from the body, but Brother really is that smart.

Does that mean your body's somewhere out there without a soul?

Yes, it is. It's on... another plane of existence, I guess you'd call it. It's still alive, but I can't access it right now.

[flickerflash]

[Hmmmm. He said he can't get there, but...]

Do you know if there are any doors there?

There are... but alchemy works on the principle of equivalent exchange. If I wanted to get my body back, I'd need to pay some sort of price. And Brother and I need to figure out a way to do that that doesn't hurt anybody else.

[She's tempted to be stubborn and ask more questions because Katie loves to open doors she really shouldn't, and she has the power to do so-- but doesn't hurt anybody else makes her bite her lip.]
