This is Ghost-1, calling in. Team - sound off.

[... if they're here. Kanan is showing a rare amount of discretion by saying nothing else. His observations from other new arrivals has given him the intel he needs - it's a holodrama with secret recording devices hidden everywhere. It wasn't your run of the mill Imperial gig. So for now, he was going to avoid drawing attention to himself.

In the meantime, he's on the Marsiva exploring. Rather than stand gaping out the windows at space, he's trying to get a sense of the size of the ship he's on. Unfortunately it's not always easy going in a straight line among twisting and turning hallways and trying to hold numbers in his head is not easy. It would be a shame if he lost his count.]

Everything. This right here? [He lifts up the plastic fork meant for the protein paste.] This is as dangerous as we get right now.

[ That might be a bit of an exaggeration. They can both be dangerous even without weapons, Kanan especially, but Hera just nods. ]

Well, we've been in worse situations. And with fewer potential allies.

[ She's not jumping to conspire with the others from their galaxy just yet, though thus far they've given her no reason to believe they're lying. Four Jedi, a Rebel Alliance general and Bail Organa's daughter - assuming they are who they say they are - is nothing to turn her nose up at. But Hera is nothing if not patient, and time will tell if they'll end up being useful. ]

You can't really mean we're going to try and team up with all of them, can you? I mean - yes, they're Jedi. [The guardians of the galaxy. He's talked them up so much in the past to Ezra in the past that now that he's confronted with nearly a half dozen of them, he doesn't really know what to do with them all.]

I can't just go back to them.

I'm not asking you to. [ She gives him a sympathetic look. It must be more than a little overwhelming, having so much of his past effectively dumped on his shoulders like this. ] I did say potential, for one thing. I only know a couple of them by sight and I'm not going to just trust them all completely out of the gate, here. I have to talk to them some more, decide if they'll be useful.

[ She picks at the bland food in front of her. ] And what you tell them about yourself is up to you, you know that.

[ She kept that particular secret for six years, she's not about to out him to anyone now. ]

I'm not trying to hold up the mission. [Because... there is a mission now. Which is that they have to get out of here.] But getting sucked back into the Jedi Order will only slow us down.

[As if they'd take me back.]

[ Hera wonders briefly who he's arguing with - because it's not her. He should know her well enough by now to know that she's not likely to push him on the Jedi thing - that's entirely up to him and always has been. Sure, she's proud of all the things he's been doing lately - taking Ezra on as his apprentice not least of them - but it's still his choice. ]

I'm not going to rush into anything, anyway. There's way too much recon to do, first. If we are in another galaxy, which one? How far is it from our own? There are so many questions I need to find the answers to, and I can't do it by myself. I'm not asking you to be a Jedi, Kanan. I just want you to keep being my partner. And we'll decide together who we trust enough to work with.

Right. Right. [He pinched the bridge of his nose and exhaled. He was letting himself get too caught up with his own past that he wasn't thinking of the here and now. Even his old master had tried to drill that into his head.]

We might not get assigned to the same ships. In fact, the chances are that we won't. We'll need to be ready for that.

Mm-hm. [ She studies him carefully for a moment. He looks tired. Worn-down. A little like she feels, after the day they've had. If they were on the Ghost she'd be telling him to get some rest already. ]

I've done a little digging and it seems we can request a transfer later on if we don't like where we end up. I figure we can cross that bridge when we get to it, but this fleet mostly seems to stick together so it shouldn't be too hard to keep in touch in the meantime.

[ She doesn't have to like it, though. ]

Separating could have it's advantages, but we'll plan to transfer when the time is right. [He'd rather have her watching his back than anyone else - even other Jedi.] What about your augment? You figured out what you have yet?

Yeah, that's what I figured.

[ If she needs him - or vice versa - they can contact each other easily enough. And when they decide to, they'll transfer to the same ship. ]

I can't imagine they'd give me anything but pilot, though I'll have to - try and test that once I get assigned.

[A nod of agreement. They have all of that sorted, then. Which just leaves the other elephant in the room - the rest of the crew.]

We're going to get through this. We'll be back on the Ghost before you know it.

[ Hera lets out a sigh, and for a moment, her mask slips, just a little. Her head droops, and she frowns. ]

I'm worried about them.

[ All of them. Sabine, Zeb, Ezra. Even Chopper. She knows they're competent, all of them, but that doesn't make her worry any less, not when they're so far out of reach. ]

... yeah. [Even he has a hard time concealing his worries for them all. They weren't just crew - they were family. For as dangerous as all the work was that they did, it would be devastating to lose any one of them. But losing all of them like this for who knew how long? It was daunting.] Zeb will keep an eye on the kids. You know he has a way with them.

[A way of having zero patience with them. But he also knew that the Lasat could really pull through when it really mattered.]

I know. He won't let anything happen to them.

[ Zeb knows - maybe better than any of them - how important it is to keep your loved ones close. And that's what they are - Hera wouldn't pretend to deny it. She loves them, with a fierce sort of protectiveness. ]

I miss them already. I'd give just about anything to hear Zeb and Ezra tearing around after Chopper right now.

[He reaches his hand across the table to take her own and give a reassuring squeeze. Sometimes, when he's able to think about times like this, it's incredible to think he ever lived so long as a loner.]

We'll get them back, Hera.

[ She nods, returning the squeeze. It is good to have Kanan here. Selfishly, perhaps, but there's no one in this galaxy or any other that she trusts more. ]

I know. Thanks.

[He gives her a reassuring smile and at long last, takes a forkful of the paste and eats it. He wasn't thinking. Instantly he cringes as he swallows it down.]

Ugh. I really hope there's better food on the smaller ships. We haven't ate this bad since that week we were stuck drifting a few years back.

[ She smiles a little, relaxing just a tad again. If nothing else, Kanan is good at providing distractions from the things she can't change. ]

Yeah, hopefully the next stop will have fresh food that isn't laced with ridiculous amounts of salt. And is maybe warmer. [ She really hates the cold. ]

I haven't really decided if it's even worth going down there. It doesn't sound exactly rich in useful resources.

[And well. Cold. He really doesn't relish the idea of shivering down there.]

[ Kanan, you're talking to a woman who was born and raised in a desert. ]

It's better to know for sure than to speculate.

[And he was born and raised on a planet that is literally cities. He is the ultimate city slicker.]

I'm pretty sure I know it's freezing down there.

Sometimes, we have to make sacrifices for the greater good.

[ She pauses a beat. ]

But I'm glad I don't have to assess whether it'd be a good place for a rebel base.

Well, it's definitely not going to be found by the Empire anytime soon. So it does have that going for it.

[Besides. This may just be a different rebellion. Different enemy, but still the same cause.]

No, that doesn't seem to be much of a concern, here.

Honestly, I'm almost ready to buy the "reality holodrama" story, if only because... they don't seem to be doing anything else with us. What's the purpose of having us here?

It's that or some kind of social experiment. You always hear things about science guilds rounding up people.

[It wasn't the kind of thing that rational people really gave a lot of thought to - certainly Kanan hadn't. Still, it seemed slightly more reasonable than a holodrama. After all, it didn't seem exactly smart to broadcast you had hostages.]
