[So Nami will address the network without fanfare. She sounds cold. Not in a help I'm freezing to death kind of way but I gave some idiot my coat kind of way:]

Hey, so I could use a h-hand. Northwest from the town about thirty minutes out, there's a frozen over l-lake. Mostly. I just fished one of ours out of it and if he doesn't get warm he's gonna freeze to death. Blankets or warm clothes for a... medium build guy broad shoulders. A pickup would be even better. [She pauses, glancing back over her shoulder as 'some idiot' - a wet angry cat of a man - starts sneezing violently.]

...a doctor's help would be ideal.

[Ah. She directs a glance at Max, then back to Furiosa.]

Assuming he doesn't do anything else stupid, he'll be fine. Just needs to get warmed up. Allen's a good medic.

[She cocks a small grin.]

[Why is she not surprised. She grins back faintly, before clamping her teeth down on another shiver.]

I've gotta set something up to flag our ride. You wanna talk to him a minute?

[Max's grumpy, pale face appears in the screen. He's shivering and looking like a waterlogged cat, lips faintly blue and breaths coming out in short puffs.]

One you're apparently very good at. I might just keep calling you 'Fool', seems more appropriate.

[But, in all seriousness, he looks terrible.] How's it feel?

[He has to stop to try and recollect his thoughts, which feel like they keep outpacing him. Which isn't entirely unusual in his normal state, but now it's even more obnoxious. He grumbles inaudibly under his chattering teeth and huffs a short, tense breath.]

F-feels like being stuck with n—needles. Arms n' l-legs don't list—en.

[His knee is on fire, but that's a given. He kicked it pretty violently around the water, and then he stomped around on it without his brace. Though, he ducks his head, looking a bit — sheepish, perhaps?]

[She listens, because sometimes that's the most you can do. She can't assure him about his inner voices; that's a battle she only sees one fragment of one side of, but the planet itself?]

I wasn't going to say I told you so, [But of course she kind of just did.] but you can see why I kept my only visit brief.

[It's good that she listens. Really, she's the only one he'd even bring it up to -- because he knows she gets it. Others, he's not so sure. He admits, it's nice to have that. Even if sometimes he wants it gone, just so he doesn't have to think about it being there one moment, as he finds an undefended comfort in it, then gone the next.

You'll get them. [There are certain things that come from sharing the sort of tragedy and psychological damage that a world like theirs lended. She didn't question or judge him. She may not suffer the same way as he did, but she had her own nighttime demons.]

[He grows somber at that, glancing at Nami when she's not focused on them.]

[Kind people. Barely anyone has shown a shred of hostility or ill intention. And if feels almost misleading, like the real face of this world will rear its ugly mug at him. Can they really trust this?]

[She's thoughtfully silent for a moment. No one in their world was completely soft, but her upbringing with the Vuvalini hadn't been anywhere near as harsh as when she was at the Citadel under Immortan Joe's rule.]

It's better. [She won't argue that it's not strange, but she'd definitely take it over the alternative.] What's your ship?

[Because she will need to know where to deliver those tissues.]

[He blinks. What's his what?

Focus, Max. Ship. Right. He pulls himself together for a proper, less shivery reply.]

So you fell into a lake. Could be worse; Nux tried to fly his ship into the sun.

[It's not exactly hatefully spoken, though they both understand that.]

Not sure. I've heard they're sent home, but in Nux's case?

[She shrugs. Its almost like losing him again, and though it's not a crushing, soul-rending loss, she still feels it. He'd been psychotic, but he'd also been naive, enthusiastic, and optimistic.]

[He nods.

He doubts there's any such place like Valhalla, but he hopes Nux found peace somewhere. If there is an afterlife.]

M-might steal people away — to other places.

I think I like the thought of that.

[Death was such an ingrained part of their culture - violent, bloody deaths - but it was almost reassuring to think they'd persist I other universes. Maybe Nux ended up in one where he could race the stars?]
