[ As promised, in a few days time, Ahsoka and Obi-Wan make their way to the markets. They dress warmly, Obi-Wan procuring a thick cloak for himself. It's hard to feel like a Jedi Master without one.

He watches as Ahsoka flits from stall to stall as he lingers behind her, to correct her on her "bargaining" technique. In a way, they resemble a teenager, saddled with a wiser all-knowing uncle. He strokes his beard in light amusement. This is probably what he needed right now, a reassessment of his priorities, the here and now. ]

But I'm sure Anakin would aid you either way. But it never hurts to have a little more pull over the situation.

[ They drift in and out of the stalls. ]

True.

I thought maybe there might be one inside our ship's maintenance droid, but... I haven't been game enough to try. I know enough to fix a ship, but... putting a droid back together is a little bit outside my expertise.

[ He grimaces. ]

I'm afraid that's not my expertise either. I barely know enough to get by and I've never been fond of droids.

Awww. Poor R4! He'll be hurt.

[ He makes a face at her. ]

Not unless you plan on passing it along.

[ Not that it's a secret. ]

[Ahsoka takes another bite of her apple, pretending to think while she chews. Then:]

Hmmm. What's it worth to you?

I beg your pardon, are you blackmailing me?

Hey. Not a Jedi anymore. So I can do what I want.

[She is mostly joking, though.]

Come on. I think that's worth at least one get-out-of-jail-free card.

[Are you regretting the lesson on bartering skills yet, Obi-Wan?]

[ Immensely. Though he's surprised she can make jokes about jail. ]

All right. But I hope you will tell me what exactly am I in for.

[Honestly, the phrase just rolled off her tongue before it even occurred to her.]

I haven't really thought about it yet. I'm just saving up.

[Be afraid, Obi-Wan.]

Yes, well, I will reserve the right to refuse in case it gets out of hand.

But you have my . . . ah, card for future use.

[ Not that she needs blackmail to do it. ]

Hey, it's not like I'm planning to get in trouble, or anything.

[Ahsoka, that is such a lie.]

It's just sometimes... trouble just finds me!

Yes, where have I heard that before, I wonder.

Trouble or not, do remember you have friends to help you out.

[Ahsoka blinks, and then her joking smile shifts into something a bit more sincere.]

... I will. ... Thank you.

[ He nods. It's important to reaffirm these things, once in a while. Whether he has done well as a teacher or not . . . it is still important to teach. ]

What else do you need?

[ They pass by a stall and Obi-Wan stops to purchase a small knife. Certainly not big or sharp enough to do harm, but enough to help him with his staff. ]

Hmmm. I could do with a signal modulator to boost the ship's asteroid sensors.

[Or, you know, cut off transmissions.]

We have another pilot now, and he's not Force-sensitive or familiar with space travel... I'm a little bit worried about what might happen if I'm asleep and he runs into trouble.

True, we don't know how far these Augmented abilities go.

[ Which brings him back to his earlier goal. Trying to extract them. If he could do that, then pretending to work with one is easy. ]

I don't see anything much in terms of technology on this planet, though. It might be due to the cold. Let's see if we can find some of the parts.

You're probably right. I feel like most tech would probably freeze in this climate. But they have indoor heating that isn't reliant on fire, so they can't be completely devoid of technology...

There might not be a technological reason behind that, Ahsoka. Remember, there is much in this galaxy or any that we do not know about.

Assuming that machines supply the needs is not always the case.

... Oh. ... Right. ... Of course.

[She quietens somewhat out of embarrassment. She really should have thought of that.]

I'm sure you'll see more as you continue exploring the neutral systems. They tend to look for creative solutions due to the War. And not everything is solved with machines.

[ He pays no attention to her embarrassment. It was simply a thought to put forward, not a dig at her knowledge. ]

At this point, I'll be happy if I never see snow again, but... I'll keep an eye out.

[ He makes a sound of agreement. ]

If we are done here, I think I'll take a look at the temples. Or find myself a sturdy branch to carve.

[Ahsoka nods.]

I think I'll stay here a bit longer. See if I can find what I need.
