[ As promised, in a few days time, Ahsoka and Obi-Wan make their way to the markets. They dress warmly, Obi-Wan procuring a thick cloak for himself. It's hard to feel like a Jedi Master without one.

He watches as Ahsoka flits from stall to stall as he lingers behind her, to correct her on her "bargaining" technique. In a way, they resemble a teenager, saddled with a wiser all-knowing uncle. He strokes his beard in light amusement. This is probably what he needed right now, a reassessment of his priorities, the here and now. ]

I have the utmost confidence in her. She's always surpassed her teachers.

[ In fact, he seems a bit out of place, compared to lively Ahsoka, who is quite happily bustling about. ]

I wouldn't have guessed any less.

[Wait, this guy just mentioned her teachers. Stefan furrows his brow.]

Do you know her from back home? Er, are you from her universe?

[beardstrokes]

Her galaxy. The universe is far too wide for such an admission. But, to clarify it further, her master was once my padawan. In a way, she was my student.

[stefanged]

Ah. [One day, he'll figure out the proper terminology for that question. One day.] She's lucky to have you around, then.

[beardstrokes]

[ "Luck has nothing to do with it" is the instinctive response. He needs to rein himself in. ]

I'm sure she'll do fine even without me here.

[stefanged]

Probably, but I'm grateful to have people from home. It makes this place easier to bare.

[He pauses, holding out his hand] I'm Stefan, by the way.

[beardstrokes]

[ He shakes it firmly. ] I am Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Is this place that hard to bear? Some experiences must come to mind.

Sometimes. Traveling between planets is usually peaceful, but we've been attacked by an enemy fleet before - and Atroma tends to be radio-silent when we should hear from them most.

[It would've been really nice to hear from them after the attack, but nope.]

[ He strokes his beard lightly. Strange that an enemy fleet would engage with them. Where does the Atroma stand with the rest of the galaxy? How do the communications?

Shame there are no answers for many of these questions. ]

I'll have to say. The Atroma don't behave like any other species I've ever met - and I've come across my fair share.

Is that so? Atroma's giving outer space travel a bad rep, then. For a lot of us, this is the first time we've even left our home planet.

[And so by extension, Atroma's their first real tussle with politics spanning whole galaxies. Stefan's a fish out of water here, and he knows it.]

How are you finding it so far?

[ While he's met people who haven't traveled away from their worlds at all, most of the races he's known are familiar with space travel. He can't imagine what it feels like, to be in a space ship, in a place that's completely alien to him. ]

[stefanged]

Not bad, honestly. The augment helps a lot, and it's a lot like traveling around Earth.

[Sure, he interacts with different species, and they're drifting from planet to planet rather than country to country - but there's the same principle of interacting with new cultures and learning new languages and well. Even Stefan's Earth had a few aliens running amok.]

I wouldn't have chosen this, but it could've been a lot worse.

[beardstrokes]

[ Yes, the lack of choice bothers him. Obi-Wan has always chosen, for ill or good and has stood by his choices. Here, you simply cannot choose. You must bear it. ]

Yes, well. The lack of choice bothers me. Even when it is so tame in its execution.

[ He pauses. ]

I remember a planet that trapped its inhabitants there for years until leaving was but a legend and ghosts walked in their mind.

[stefanged]

[Stefan's smile fades almost immediately. That description sounds too much like home, but then... Obi Wan had said he was familiar with space travel, so maybe legends of home had made it all the way out there.]

Really? [...] Do you remember what they called that planet?

[beardstrokes]

Certainly. It was Iego. The planet of a thousand moons.

[ He watches Stefan carefully, always assessing. ]

I do not think it is the planet you're thinking of, though.

[stefanged]

Not really.

[Still, the thought of multiple planets that kidnap people... It makes him uneasy.]

The planet I'm thinking of was called Earth. Or well, it was a Earth. Parallel universes kind of apply here.

[beardstrokes]

Well, I've certainly never heard of it until I arrived at this place. So I can't speak for any Earths.

[ Gently.] Iego was a special case. There was an old laser system in place. To prevent people from escaping.

[stefanged]

Make sense. Earth didn't have widespread space travel, so... there wasn't an easy way for people to leave.

[Well, that, and he had been told that his home planet had been destroyed. News like that keeps a guy planet-bound.]

[beardstrokes]

[ He observes him quietly before nodding. ]

It is a large universe out there. We may never fully understand how it works. So, we survive with the rules we do have and hope the universe allows for it.

[stefanged]

If the universe is that big? I'd bet it would more than allow for a few things.

[How else is Atroma getting away with a serious human (er, sentient being) rights violation?]

I'm sure we'll make it out some day. Just a matter of when.

[beardstrokes]

The universe, I'm afraid, is made up of the good and the bad. Light and the Dark. I would not call it capricious by nature, but knowing.

And perhaps, there is the good we pass along to the planets.

[ The Atroma, to Obi-Wan, is a very small part of the terrible violations he's seen. ]
