[ As promised, in a few days time, Ahsoka and Obi-Wan make their way to the markets. They dress warmly, Obi-Wan procuring a thick cloak for himself. It's hard to feel like a Jedi Master without one.

He watches as Ahsoka flits from stall to stall as he lingers behind her, to correct her on her "bargaining" technique. In a way, they resemble a teenager, saddled with a wiser all-knowing uncle. He strokes his beard in light amusement. This is probably what he needed right now, a reassessment of his priorities, the here and now. ]

[Not that he was a heavy drinker, though in the past when he lived in a flophouse next to a cantina, well... it was hard passing up the free drinks while working for the owner.]

I've never understood the point. Unless it's to gather information.

No. I guess Jedi and a few hard drinks isn't much of a combination. [The Jedi have other ways to cope. Or at least, they're supposed to.]

... Probably not, no.

I don't even want to imagine what a room full of drunk Jedi looks like.

[Oh no. Now she's imagining it.]

[Ahsoka chuckles.]

Well. At least then Anakin wouldn't be alone!

[Oh huh, that gets his attention.]

[A wince.] A match like that... sounds like he got lucky.

No way. Anakin's one of the strongest Jedi in the galaxy. Even back then, he was pretty good!

[She might have left the Order, but her faith in Anakin is unshakable.]

[His own brief experience with a Sith lord made them seem insurmountable enemies. He considered himself fortunate to escape his one encounter with just the burn on his arm.]

... Wait a minute. I didn't think most average people even knew or cared what a Sith was. Even when we tried to tell people Dooku was a Sith, nobody believed us! How do you know so much about it?

When I'm from, it's history.

[He looked it up on wookiepedia.]

[... Well, that makes sense. And it doesn't feel like a lie.

Still, for some reason it doesn't set her completely at ease.]

... Oh. I see.

[Deflection. It's what he's good at. He doesn't really like telling half-truths like that, but it's better than the alternative.]

What were you saying about Anakin? He's the what?

... Chosen One.

[But a normal person probably wouldn't understand what that means. So she hurries on in anticipation of the question.]

It's an old Jedi prophecy. "The one who'll bring balance back to the Force."

I'm not sure about the future, but in my time... there's something not quite right with the Force. It's out of balance.

[Bring balance to the Force, huh? Unless balance meant decimating the Jedi Order to a handful of survivors, he didn't think there was much balance in that. The Jedi might have had powers, but Kanan couldn't help but think that maybe all their prophecies and rituals weren't all they were cracked up to be.]

Out of balance how? And is that really something that can be tinkered with? I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure it's a little different than swapping out a few power converters.

What-- I don't know! I wasn't my prophecy!

[Ahsoka bites her lip. She can't help but think of that planet... the Father, the Daughter, the Son... she shakes her head. That place wasn't real. And even if it was, it's gone now.]

Fine, fine! I was just asking, that's all.

[Besides, Anakin is dead and buried as far as he knows. So the prophecy might as well be bunk.]

[Ahsoka sighs and looks away.]

... When I was younger, I thought it meant he was going to be the one to bring an end to the war. But the older masters say that things were a little out of balance for longer than that-- the Clone Wars just made it worse.

They seemed to have been wrong about a lot of things.]

I've never even met the guy. And in this case, it's not exactly written in history anywhere.

[Ahsoka frowns. Something about his manner makes her feel defensive. What does he know, anyway?]

Most Jedi prophecies aren't.

Maybe we'll never know, then.

[He can speculate how things might have been different, but history is already written for him. There's not much point in wondering.]

[If she's still alive in the future, anyway.]

[If the Ahsoka he knew had any information about all this prophecy stuff, she'd never bothered to tell Kanan about it.]
