Who: Koala and you!
Broadcast: From the Marsiva
Action: SS Huntress later on.
When: January 9th.
A.) VIDEO BROADCAST
Ah -- I was asleep! I don't remember being tired; maybe I slept badly the night before.
[The higher pitch of a child's voice — one that looks about eight or nine by the size of her, though she's a bit older than that — pops up on the broadcast; Koala herself is clearly a bit confused, a little troubled by her sudden lack of recollection over the last few hours. Last she remembers, she had... been on the deck of... Yes, she had been sailing with the Sun Pirates as usual, and Hatchan was teasing her by having her guess where something was in one of his many hands.
.... What is this, though?
She stares at the room around her, polished and not at all a pirate ship.
Her heart skips a beat. Her cheeks hurt a little, the corners of her mouth twisting.]
... Hello?
Did — Did we dock?
[Did they leave her behind? Did Fisher Tiger grow tired of her? Perhaps he had realized he did not like her cry, the way she wailed what felt like so long ago. Maybe he resented it more than she realized. She's thankful for her life if that's the case, glad that she was not cut down for being a nuisance, but... but now... how will she get to her mother now?]
Where... is the crew...?
[The silence is very scary, but not the scariest she's faced. She plants her bare feet on the floor, curling her hands in her yellow dress. It's the only one she owns, and she's not sure she likes it even now, but they gave it to her and she expects to honor that. Her slave clothes were a bit torn anyway. She regrets not waking with shoes, but it's a nice floor. It's very clean, very much the place of richer families.
Is... Could she be... back in...
She shakes faintly at the thought, mortified for a moment until she sees the strange device. For some reason, she thinks maybe she knows how to use it? But where would such a thought exist from? She's used to far different ways to talk...
If this is — in fact a new... owner. Then she needs to be prepared to do whatever she must. Hopefully she's allowed to speak. She gives a creepily wide smile, eyes round and full of faked anticipation and contentedness. When she speaks, it's high and eager, ready to work. And that smile does not waver for even a moment.]
Hello! I'm sorry — Where will I be stationed?
I'll get to it right away!
[Telling them you're good at your job is not smart. They may think you're gloating about your skills. That could earn unwanted attention. Best to stick with simply explaining your compliance and moving along to do the next task. Don't panic! Everything will be okay! Yes! You will survive! Just keep smiling.]
B.) ACTION — SS HUNTRESS
[Later on when the shuffle is processed, Koala boards her ship good and proper — she's nervous, so nervous, but she has to remind herself that it will all be alright as long as she does whatever it is that's needed of her. She can clean, she can make things look proper! How nice is this ship, anyway? She'll get right to it! Because of this, one can find her scrubbing the chairs and counter tops down, or carefully mopping the halls. Be careful not to slip! That would be tragic. It's not like we have any caution: wet floor signs. Also, we promise she's not from Children of the Corn, but sometimes when you turn around where you're at? She's right there, beaming up at you with that wide-set smile. She's got prune-y hands wringing a cleaned rag and a little dust on her yellow dress.]
I've polished the kitchen counters! Does anything need to be cleaned?

I've polished the kitchen counters! Does anything need to be cleaned?

[hang on for a minute she'll address you properly in a minute but]
Stars?
no subject
she feels there might have been]
Yeah. Stars. These ships fly. It's okay! It's safe.
[Inasmuch as others with experience and her own augment tell her.]
1/2
Ah. Okay! It's safe.
[.........
...........
..........]
no subject
[AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH]
no subject
It won't hurt you. Trust me, it's kind of boring once you get used to it.
[Maybe if she could fly wherever she chose, but there's no waves, no wind. It's so stagnant.]
no subject
NO, NO, CALM YOURSELF, KOALA, THIS IS OKAY
EVERYTHING IS OKAY!
She looks like she's about to pass out, but she grips her chest and SMIIIIILES]
N-no, it's fine! Everything is fine, miss! I'm not worried!
[she says with short anxious breaths *_*]
no subject
Yes you are. You don't have to hide it.
no subject
It's fine! I was just caught off-guard. How interesting!
[
Do you — enjoy the stars?
no subject
I think they're pretty, and I'm having fun learning how to travel by looking at charts of stars. But I miss the ocean and the salt and the wind. It's not the same.
You were on a crew, weren't you? Were you the... cabin girl?
[She can hope it was that simple. A girl this twitchy with that fake a smile screams something else entirely.]
no subject
I like the smell of the salt, too.
[She quiets, fiddling with the ends of her dress. It really is a nice one.]
I was on a ship before. They were — g-going to take me home.
[And she figures maybe they didn't feel like doing that anymore.
She thought they liked her a little? But perhaps not. Tiger always looked at her oddly, after all.]
no subject
Must've been a shock to end up here, huh. You're not meant to be. The people that run this place just kind of kidnap people from all over.
[...Nami that's a strong word--] Oh, but they leave us alone! You don't have to worry about them being mean. It's... uh. Complicated.
no subject
She looks a bit spooked by it, but she holds it together.
It's not the worst in her life so far, being kidnapped and taken to a place like this.]
But they want us to work for them?
no subject
It's a way of showing events happening in one place to people who aren't there. They put people from all differents kinds of places into ships together and then let them do whatever they want. And they show it to other people and call it entertainment.
[Which she has her doubts re: veracity, but let's not confuse the child even more.]
no subject
It sounds so confusing... Is it — um. Like a play?
[Those show events happening, yeah?]
no subject
That's it exactly! Only we don't have to play parts. They just like watching us make friends here. I guess they must be pretty bored people, huh?
no subject
I... I'll do my best to be entertaining, but I don't really know how...
no subject
[Trying this question again as it got lost in star panic:] What's your name?
no subject
........ Then where is everybody?
[CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP
it's so quiet in here miss nami]
Is this the slave sleeping quarters?
They must all already be assigned...
[Yeah, she's still very convinced she's to be sold off to a ship. People say differently, but then they go and tell her things like she's kidnapped, or that she's here for someone's amusement, or she has an occupation to uphold.]
no subject
That's one hell of a coincidence. It can't be a coincidence. Can it?]
...no. They're not slave sleeping quarters. They're just regular sleeping quarters for regular guests, which is what you are. But you're the only one right now, so that's why it's so quiet.
You're not a slave here, Koala. Just like you weren't at-- [--wait. What point in time...? She mentioned docking. She saw that look--]
You weren't at home, either, were you? You were sailing with the Sun Pirates. Right...?
[Is this the little girl from Jinbe's story?]
no subject
You know — the Sun Pirates?
no subject
Some of them. I know of their crew, of course-- they're very famous. Jinbe is a good friend of mine. And-- I know Hatchan, too. He's... he's okay. [He went with Arlong when they split up and she got enslaved and bullied by them for years, no big. But Hatchan himself was nicer than many of them, and she's forgiven him since then besides.]
They were going to take you home, right? Jinbe told me all about you. They liked you. [...some of them.] You can trust that they'll take you all the way home.
[Or will, once you stop being here.]
no subject
[Look, fishmen are weird. Juggling kids is a-ok.
It was kind of fun anyway.]
And Mr. Jinbei, too...! They were all very nice — um. Most of them were very nice!
[She trails off, fidgeting a little, red-cheeked.]
I... I don't know how I'll go home from here. Will someone send me back if I'm obedient?
I can work.
no subject
Obedience and working won't get you home, I'm sorry. The people that took us don't care about that. They don't care what we do. They just care that we're interesting to watch.
Koala...? When you do go back, they'll drop you back off with the Sun Pirates, and they will get you back to your mother. You haven't been taken by anyone who expects you to work.
You're not a slave here. You're just a little girl who's lost.
no subject
She just stares for a moment.
And then she seems to completely detach herself from a particular part of the conversation. Perhaps out of fear. If the people who brought her her heard that, would she get into trouble? Or this woman? It's a scary thought. She doesn't want to entertain it, not when they could be listening somewhere in this cold, quiet ship.
She pales a little, but the smile holds.]
I... Thank you for your kind words! I should... I should really go find where I'm supposed to work...
no subject
[She says it more sharply than she needs to; it's anger at what's been done, and hurt that echoes too close to home. But she was never like this. Nami takes a breath and lets it out, continues more softly.]
I'm sorry. But there's nothing to do except rest on that ship, Koala. They don't expect you to work.
...will it help if I tell you there aren't any slavers? No slave-owners. And if there were, we would have tossed them overboard long ago.
