Who: Koala and you!
Broadcast: From the Marsiva
Action: SS Huntress later on.
When: January 9th.
A.) VIDEO BROADCAST
Ah -- I was asleep! I don't remember being tired; maybe I slept badly the night before.
[The higher pitch of a child's voice — one that looks about eight or nine by the size of her, though she's a bit older than that — pops up on the broadcast; Koala herself is clearly a bit confused, a little troubled by her sudden lack of recollection over the last few hours. Last she remembers, she had... been on the deck of... Yes, she had been sailing with the Sun Pirates as usual, and Hatchan was teasing her by having her guess where something was in one of his many hands.
.... What is this, though?
She stares at the room around her, polished and not at all a pirate ship.
Her heart skips a beat. Her cheeks hurt a little, the corners of her mouth twisting.]
... Hello?
Did — Did we dock?
[Did they leave her behind? Did Fisher Tiger grow tired of her? Perhaps he had realized he did not like her cry, the way she wailed what felt like so long ago. Maybe he resented it more than she realized. She's thankful for her life if that's the case, glad that she was not cut down for being a nuisance, but... but now... how will she get to her mother now?]
Where... is the crew...?
[The silence is very scary, but not the scariest she's faced. She plants her bare feet on the floor, curling her hands in her yellow dress. It's the only one she owns, and she's not sure she likes it even now, but they gave it to her and she expects to honor that. Her slave clothes were a bit torn anyway. She regrets not waking with shoes, but it's a nice floor. It's very clean, very much the place of richer families.
Is... Could she be... back in...
She shakes faintly at the thought, mortified for a moment until she sees the strange device. For some reason, she thinks maybe she knows how to use it? But where would such a thought exist from? She's used to far different ways to talk...
If this is — in fact a new... owner. Then she needs to be prepared to do whatever she must. Hopefully she's allowed to speak. She gives a creepily wide smile, eyes round and full of faked anticipation and contentedness. When she speaks, it's high and eager, ready to work. And that smile does not waver for even a moment.]
Hello! I'm sorry — Where will I be stationed?
I'll get to it right away!
[Telling them you're good at your job is not smart. They may think you're gloating about your skills. That could earn unwanted attention. Best to stick with simply explaining your compliance and moving along to do the next task. Don't panic! Everything will be okay! Yes! You will survive! Just keep smiling.]
B.) ACTION — SS HUNTRESS
[Later on when the shuffle is processed, Koala boards her ship good and proper — she's nervous, so nervous, but she has to remind herself that it will all be alright as long as she does whatever it is that's needed of her. She can clean, she can make things look proper! How nice is this ship, anyway? She'll get right to it! Because of this, one can find her scrubbing the chairs and counter tops down, or carefully mopping the halls. Be careful not to slip! That would be tragic. It's not like we have any caution: wet floor signs. Also, we promise she's not from Children of the Corn, but sometimes when you turn around where you're at? She's right there, beaming up at you with that wide-set smile. She's got prune-y hands wringing a cleaned rag and a little dust on her yellow dress.]
I've polished the kitchen counters! Does anything need to be cleaned?

I've polished the kitchen counters! Does anything need to be cleaned?

[action]
[ easily enough. ]
When I didn't know what I wanted to do, I decided to steal a ship and explore. I wanted to see things, and to live my own life. And I did.
[ until he was employed by jabba. and until he met luke. then his life sort of went out the window, but he's a lot happier now that he doesn't have to answer to anyone but himself. ]
Maybe you should figure out what you like to do, first, before you decide what your job is.
[action]
I can't steal! Stealing is — that's wrong! It's punishable by death!
[She does not want to be dead, okay?
Or have a hand taken, if they're feeling generous. Though one-handed slaves don't last long.]
[action]
-- I'm not telling you to steal.
[ in slight exasperation. ]
That's just what I had to do in -- nevermind. My point is, find something you like to do, and go do it. You're not held to whatever you were held to back home.
[action] 1/2
I...
....
....
[action] 1/3 lmao
[action]
[watch as she demonstrates!!!!!]
[action]
forcing her to stop probably won't work, and he's already made up his mind to have a polite discussion with his captain later about this child. until then -- ]
Can I help?
[ he pauses before turning to collect up a spare towel from the rack near the sink ]
'cause I'm not used to having other people on my ship, so you're just gonna have to deal with the extra hands.
[action]
Help?
[hElP?
What — what...]
You don't have to stoop to such a level, Mr. Solo — ah, sir! It's a very dusty job!
You'll get it on your clothes.
[She's got dusty marks on her yellow dress — which actually looks very clean and well-kept. Though she has no shoes to speak of; that's what happens when you're taken overnight, okay. You don't wear shoes to bed, that's just odd.]
[action]
[ he runs the cloth underneath the sink briefly, to wet it. ]
I have a ship kind of like this, at home. [ comparing this thing to the falcon is gross, but. you know. easy comparisons. ] I practically built her myself, which means I had to work with the parts. It's not a clean job to have. A little water won't kill me.
[action]
[THE SURPRISE. But what is he doing on a ship as a pilot only?
Very strange. Most captains wouldn't like that (oh dear sweet koala).]
I-I hope water doesn't kill you! That would be unfortunate.
[She made a funny, see! She's hilar. Come join her in scrubbing this counter.
Even if she's bewildered at this entire idea.]
Did it go fast? Your pirate ship!
[action]
Not dead yet.
[ too funny. ]
And I am, yeah. She's called the Millennium Falcon, and she's the fastest ship in the galaxy. I modified her engines and installed her hyperdrive myself.
[action] 1/2
[But as he talks and starts whatever attempt at cleaning he's doing, her cheeks puff out a bit, like she's trying to hold in air, and her eyes twitch and crinkle. She's trying to pay attention, but...
Pffht.
Muffled laughter, looks like. An attempt to hold it back. He's so interested in his ship, but it's totally making his work ethic suffer!]
Mr. Solo... your technique! You've left a few spots...!
[action]
She puts up her hands, quick to correct herself.]
Oh! Sorry, no, I mean — you're really very good!
I'm sorry, I shouldn't correct you — ! You're wonderful at it!
[such a horrible mistake; she really has been put topsy-turvy by the fishmen and their good natures; what a horrible choice of reaction!]
[action]
You're not a very good liar.
[ it's said pleasantly enough, though, with no offense obviously taken -- and han shrugs at her side of the counter. ]
What's wrong with my technique? -- and don't be nice. Lay it on me.
[action]
[UM UM. Alright. Um. Let her know you the Mr. Miyagi.]
The best way is to make circles with your hands! But you want to be sure to wash your cloth sometimes because if you don't you'll just move the dirt around. It's not a very dirty place — but it's much dirtier than Mariejois allows! We can't have this — see? See these lines here? It needs to shine!
[Observe the motions! The cleaning of the cloth. The chrome shine!
You can see your goddamn reflection in it Han.]
[action]
Why're the circles better than anything else?
[ mildly. casually fishing for information.
also this kid takes this shit seriously, jeez. ]
Re: [action]
It helps to not clean the same place twice and get your work done in a timely matter! And it will make you less tired, so you will always look useful! The useful children are the ones who live the longest.
[action]
I don't think you need to worry about being useful around here.
[ as gingerly as possible, but he folds his cloth in half to begin again. ]
At least, not with that much at stake.
[action]
But isn't it normal for people to have to be useful?
It would be very selfish of me to not give all of my time to it! Especially as a commoner!
[She glances up, looking very sure of herself and her logic. It was told to her on occasion, when the Celestial Dragons felt like tormenting her for a little bit in the day. She was lucky that she was not some of the other slaves they felt like hurting with more than words for a few kicks or punches. It's why she was able to survive, while some could no longer understand how to after freedom.]
You do sound a little like the Sun Pirates, though. They were very kind to me.
[She wonders about them, sometimes, and it's more positive since she thinks maybe they didn't give her away on purpose. She wonders if they're okay. If they remember her from day to day, wonder where she went off to. She doesnt' expect they'll linger long, though. She's a slave.]
[action]
[ han isn't actually really cleaning anymore -- he's really just absorbing what the girl is saying. and his lips twitch slightly, at the last part, into a slight grin. ]
You get along with pirates?
[ amused ]
They can be pretty good people.
[ case in point ]
[action]
[She realized a fraction of a second late that she might have gotten herself into trouble speaking of pirates, but Mr. Solo seems to actually appreciate pirates. Which is... strange. The world nobles hate them. Then again, they seem to hate everyone who is not themselves. It makes her feel a little discomfort, mostly because her idea of the people manning this ship is slipping more and more from the idea of what owners are.
She's quiet for a moment, hesitating — ]
Th-they were very nice! I thought they would be horrible, but only one of them ever hit me. And the others would be mad at him for it if they saw! They took me into town and we built snowmen and they gave me a lot of food, and they — they cut my hair, and they bought me this!
[She sits up, putting down the rag and holding the edges of her dress with her hands, fanning it out. It's nothing fancy, just a yellow sundress, but she seems starstruck by it a little. If not a little terrified that she's sharing this at all. Will they get angry? Obi-wan didn't seem to be upset... And Mr. Solo has been very nice.]
I can't remember when I wore something like this! I don't think I should have it, but they said it was okay...
[action]
sounds like his group of people. sans hitting kids, anyway. ]
... I'm kind of like a pirate, in my world.
[ s o r t of ]
Though I'm trying out something new, for the time being -- most of the people on this ship follow the law, though. In theory.
[ except greed, that dick. ]
And I'm sure you can buy more dresses on the surface, too. The Atroma give you money for being here.
[action]
She nods, though, even if she's not sure what he means. Does he mean the law, that he follows it? Because she supposes that is a very un-pirate-like thing to do. She's entirely distracted from that line of though with the mention of money, though.]
... Money?
[Now that's something she's never dealt with.]
Um, like... gold, and beri? But I shouldn't have that; that's a bad idea. I - I guess we do need more supplies for upkeep, but... I wouldn't know how to...
[action]
[ just saying. ]
You can use the money to buy whatever you want on the planet, or the shopping network.
[ han wants a goddamn gun :) but he won't tell that to a smol ]
[action]
I wouldn't know where to start, Mr. Solo! I've never had money before...
[action]
