[ by all accounts, sansa stark has survived. she now lives on an armoured ship. her brothers are nearby -- alongside one brother's devoted friends, who have all been more kind to her kin than she can put to words. although nothing so much as approaches normal, she's beginning to feel settled. stability creeps in from the corners.

and this allows her to ask a question of her fleetmates: ] Is there any means by which I might find spare cloth and thread? And needles, too, of course. The ships give us so much, but I'm not certain -- [ not certain they can give me these. she does not understand their magic, nor the purchasing power of her device. ]

I like to embroider. I should like to do it again, if I could. [ but without a handmaiden to bid fetch these things, she doesn't know how to begin. perhaps it's as simple as looking in the correct spot -- but she was never raised to procure or purchase anything in her life. ]

[His expression softens. She's with good people, and well - he'd been meaning to visit his bro for a while.]

I can do that, no problem. Give me a couple of hours and we'll see if this works out.

There isn't any need to rush. Not on my account.

I know. I might forget otherwise - but I'll let you know if anything holds me up.

[The Paisley isn't as much of a madhouse as other ships might be, but it's got its characters.]

Sansa. I am -- [ she doesn't know what she does. ] I don't think I am</> anything, if I'm honest.

[ except she rarely is. ]

Ah. I can't say I know you well, Miss Sansa, but you sound like a bright, intelligent young woman.

[He's not trying to mimic her speech - if anything, it kind of reminds him of the women he knew (back in the 19th century). Only a stupid man would've underestimated them.]

Allen and Sokka're lucky to have you along for the ride, no matter what your augment is.

[ hmm. she chews on that for a moment. ]

Do the Atroma ever give out broken augments? [ ... ] I'm not certain what they expect of me and mine.

I wouldn't say broken. It's... well, it's possible they granted you an augment that you wouldn't naturally go for.

Or, if you're personnel like my friends, that your augment is a broad one. You define what you do, not your augment.

[ her expression pinches. ]

Personnel. [ sansa shakes her head. ] I'm not familiar with this.

Typically, personnel are people who help out the ship in other ways, like being a counselor. But since you're talking about sewing again... [He tilts his head a little]

Have you thought about maybe working as a seamstress? Helping people on the Fleet with clothing repair and stuff? That could fulfill your duties as "personnel."

Oh, Gods no. [ a soft exhalation. she's a little put off her game by his suggestion. ] I embroider. I don't repair things.

[ that's servant's work. isn't it? ]

Then... you could embroider things? I'm sure your crew would appreciate it too.

[It's all the same to Stefan, but now he's starting to think he should look into the differences. They're clearly important ones to her.]

Miss Sansa, I - I'm saying more that your augment isn't broken. You just haven't found what you're meant to do yet.

Will it take long to learn what I'm meant for? [ she presses her lips together. thoughtful. ] Only I already owe the Blue Fish a great deal.

I don't know. [He shrugs a little] Back home, it took me a while to figure out who I wanted to be.

You're kinda lucky, I think. You've got a wider net to cast than most of us.

[ alas, her net doesn't feel wide. ]

What did you decide -- in the end?

Me? Um, well - the Fleet gave me back my old dream. Kinda negated that whole struggle, if I could heal people in the med bay.

But back home, that wasn't an option [because he's a vampire]. So I decided to become a religious scholar.

You're a maester, [ she decides. ]

Um, thanks. [beat] What's a maester again?

They help in healing people. And they are scholars of all manner of things. [ but then... ] It is the septons who teach religion in the South, however, so mayhaps you are one of those as well.

Ah. Thank you for the explanation. I can only hope I live up to the expectations of those titles.

-- Did you study long to become what you are?

Kind of. It took me a couple of years to memorize the Qur'an - er, my holy book, and I studied medicine in school for at least three years.

[gently:] I don't think I'll ever stop learning. Religion and medicine change with time, and the Fleet's given me more experience than I could've hoped for.

I imagine there are a great many variations upon faith within the fleet. [ a quiet glimmer of a brain beneath all that courtesy. ] Even in Westeros, there are religious differences between regions.
