[The ship is small enough that when their new crewmate appears, Hange can round up the boys just by taking a stroll through the ship and yelling.]

Zhas! Coil! We have a new recruit, let's meet in the galley!

[Time for everyone to get comfy with each other. And also, discuss ship upgrades, this seems like a convenient time to do that.]

However, I have a rather intimate knowledge of anatomy. I can't imagine there's nothing you'd find I can't simply tell you.

What about an x-ray? A noninvasive scan... of course I wouldn't want to cut you up for no real reason... [ahem] I promise I'd be so gentle with you...

Have you ever seen a desert, my dear?

On one of the last planets we landed on. My first time, actually.

[She's socially acceptable again. Turning back on the stars as well. A nonhuman on her ship - exciting! Oh, she absolutely has to keep working on him.]

Fascinating. The humans there... well, they weren't quite what I'd recognize as completely human anymore, but the changes weren't much more than cosmetic from what I could see either.

Your species wouldn't have happened to branch off the human evolutionary line somehow, would it?

An interesting question-- we do rather look alike, don't we?

[Two arms, two legs, two eyes-- the changes are mostly cosmetic, frankly.]

But insofar as I know, no. We're quite a few lightyears away from Earth. We weren't even the first person to contact Earthlings-- that would be the Vulcans. A species entirely devoted to logic and lack of emotions.

Sounds... tedious.

[She's briefly amused that Garak wasn't offended by her question - she could see some people getting nettled over it.

A word of advice, Garak, although I'm sure you'll figure it out yourself in good time - think of it as me speeding up the process by whatever degree.

Zhas there's an all right sort. Give the big guy plenty of space and he'll be more comfortable, might even come to you eventually.

Coil is subordinate to him and they know each other from before. If he gives you trouble you find unpalatable, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know. I'm not keen on interfering with that bond and breeding resentment there. [More resentment, that is.]

As for the rest of the people who've been brought here, I have less to say. I regret I can't introduce you to Cecil; she seems to be gone now. As for the others, I would say Emblica is reliable if you chance across her.

[Oh, now, that is interesting. He hasn't any ties to this woman, not in the least, and yet she's looking out for him.]

I'll keep all that in mind. I have no real quarrel with either of them; in fact, I was thinking of asking Coil if he might teach me sign language. Thank you.

[She is captain, after all. And used to directing squads of soldiers, whose lives she's responsible for. By now it's a reflex.]
