Oh, hello. I think I've done this thing right.

[A youngish red head was looking around herself, the interior of the ship clear in the background. She's in some hallways somewhere.]

Well, this is a bit sad to say but, can anyone direct me to the labs? Sorry, I should introduce myself first. Lily Evans here, I guess I'm your new lab support personnel. Blimey if I know what all that entails but, I was always a fair hand at potions.

Right, well then if anyone could be so kind, pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

I'd love to, I didn't come with much, still wondering about how personal supplies and all that work. At least I have my wand.

[She pulled it out of the back pocket of her jeans and held it up before returning it. But her face fell suddenly.]

Umm Remus, are the rules the same here, for..you know. What we can do?

They are. Most people here know I'm a wizard-- actually, there's quite a few here who have magic themselves. Although their rules are different, it's honestly fascinating.

But we can talk about it and do it without getting into trouble?

[Because that was clearly the important bit, she was still a bit of a goody-two-shoes.]

Yeah. The Ministry isn't present here. We're . . . frankly, we're quite isolated from home, for better or worse.

Well that's a relief, I've been itching to use my wand but wasn't sure it was ok. Do you know, is there a way back? Mum and dad will be missing me, I don't think it would be such bad news for Tuney though.

[Ah. This will be harder. Remus' smile fades entirely.]

No. There's no way back. Not that I know of.

.. What do you mean, no way back? Remus, there has to be a way. My family...

[Now she sagged a bit and her smile melted away completely. She could look series and had many times when studying but this expression was rare, Lily looked hurt.]

Why would someone bring us here if we couldn't go home?

Entertainment. Suppose captives make for better drama than willing people do.

So that bit is really true then, it wasn't just a dream. Not sure I'll be of any interest to anyone.

Mm, that's what I thought too. Do you want to come over?

[There's some other things that they ought to talk about.]

To your ship? Can I?

[Well she didn't seem to have much in the way of ships duties at the moment, so perhaps it could be arranged.]

Course. The Paisley-- I'll be waiting.

[She ought to know how, thanks to the implants-- the one good thing about this place is all the new knowledge.]

Right, well then I'll just pop on over. See you soon Remus!

[Lily followed the directions in her mind, such hidden knowledge was a new thing but she was trying to figure it out as she went. In short order she made her way over to the other ship, finding it not entirely like her own.]

That was not like the Hogwarts Express.

Not in the least, I'm afraid.

[Remus is taller, a little more scarred, a touch of grey along the temples. But he's smiling as he waits for her in his ship.]

All right, then? I haven't any tea, but I can get you some water, at least.

Tingles a bit. [If the sensation was real or just imagined was anyones guess, but the teleport seemed to leave the fine hairs on her arms standing and a chill running her spine.]

Cup of hot water would be welcome.

[But first things first, she stepped up to wrap her arms around Remus in a warm hug]

[He blinks, not expecting it, but returns the hug soon enough. he has missed her these past few months.]

Come on-- I'll show you the kitchens--

[Lily fell into step with him and looked at the ship around them.]

So you've been here some time.

Three months. James has been here longer.

[He doesn't know just how long, he realizes. That's something he ought to know. Remus leads them into the kitchen area and gets two glasses of water-- he wants tea, but he isn't about to raid Stefan's private inventory.]

We ought to talk about the future, Lils.

[Not Harry, not James-- he'll leave that to his friend. But the rest of it . . . she ought to be warned.]

Of course Potter has to one up everyone, even in this.

[She shook her head but followed without further comment on him. Gratefully she took the water, she would have preferred tea too and made a note to look into getting some whenever possible.]

I've been thinking a lot about it already! I think I'd like to teach. Maybe not at Hogwarts you know not at first. But I'm a better than fair hand at charms and Professor Slughorn himself said I am very talented at potions. Or even maybe muggle studies, they are horribly incorrect about so many things.

Mm.

[They are, and any other day he would have taken the chance to chat with her about it. Halfbloods and muggleborns have to stick together, after all, and he'd been quite annoyed at how inaccurate their muggle studies courses were. But . . .]

It . . . doesn't quite turn out that way, I'm afraid.

Oh, right. I forgot you're from further along than I am.

[She seemed to go pale, looking grave.]

I don't fail out do I? I thought I had done so well, and being a prefect is a good sign isn't it?

[She sat her water down and pressed a hand to her chest.]

How badly did I do?

No, you--

[He honestly isn't thinking of school. School is so far from where he is; he'd forgotten that it was all she was concerned with.]

You graduate. We all do. And . . .

[Well, he'd told James this much. Might as well tell Lily too.]

We all of us-- you, me, James, Sirius, Peter, and a few others you know-- we join an organization that Dumbledore organizes. It's called the Order of the Phoenix. And we . . . I suppose you'd call us soldiers. We fight Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

oh.

[Her response was so quiet, it might have been a whisper. She doesn't make eye contact for a long moment, but after some times she nods and looks up at him. Her hand lowered to rest on the counter.]

I suppose I always knew it was coming, we felt the changes and even muggles can't miss things like that in the news.

My grandad was in World War II, he used to tell me stories and, well, I'm glad to know I will have the will to stand up what's coming.

You do. Very courageously, in fact. You and I run a few missions together, we-- it's an honor fighting alongside you.

[He smiles tiredly at her, sympathy clear in his gaze.]

I'm sorry. I wouldn't have told you, but . . . I think it's better to know. And it would be unfair to James to know and you not to.

I'm sure Potter would have lorded it over me before telling me himself. The only thing he loves more than a secret is tormenting me with one.

[She laid a hand on his shoulder and gripped it with a soft warmth.]

I'm glad we stay friends, and even work together. It's good to know I have someone I trust to watch my back.
