Oh, hello. I think I've done this thing right.

[A youngish red head was looking around herself, the interior of the ship clear in the background. She's in some hallways somewhere.]

Well, this is a bit sad to say but, can anyone direct me to the labs? Sorry, I should introduce myself first. Lily Evans here, I guess I'm your new lab support personnel. Blimey if I know what all that entails but, I was always a fair hand at potions.

Right, well then if anyone could be so kind, pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

-- no, but I'm trying to figure out how to get it back. Seems they're pretty hit and miss with the witches and wizards here, there are loads -- not all from home, but some of them use magic with wands, and they kept theirs.

[ james, it seems, was not so lucky. maybe because he's not entirely responsible. ]

I've been borrowing Moony's for the time being.

[ read: he's been stealing moony's for the time being. ]

I'm sure if you behave they will give it back to you, fairly certain you can manage that.

[Borrowing, sure. Like all the times he was helping people when he jinxed their shoes on the stairs.]

And Remus if alright with that? Why not just use Black's? You two are so joined at the hip he can't be far away. Where is he then?

but james' expression falters slightly at the question, and he sighs, allowing himself a slight frown. ]

Home -- I hope, anyway.

[ home being his house, or hogwarts, obviously. ]

I haven't seen him around yet, since I've been here -- and I've been here for months, now.

[Well didn't that just make her the ass? She had assumed the two of them were as thick as thieves as ever and running amok here. Her gaze shifted down for a moment and she fidgeted before looking back.]

I'm sorry Potter, I just assumed, well you two are always together. It's hard to imagine one without the other. It can't be easy on you as good a friends as you are. I was thoughtless.

[She felt small and ugly with that, she'd been baiting him and trying to be hurtful and had succeeded far more than she might have liked.]

No, s'alright.

[ instantly, and james even waves a hand dismissively. -- it's not alright that sirius isn't here, but lily certainly didn't mean any harm. ]

The Fleet's a fair bit quieter than it should be, that's all -- but you never know. Moony showed up pretty quickly after I did, and now you're here. Sirius might be on his way.

[ god help them all

but james pauses for a moment before peering at her, his brow furrowing. ]

-- are you alright? Really. It's a lot to take in, but I'm sure you're doing better than I was.

[ james, after all, as a pureblooded wizard, doesn't really have... electricity. ]

Maybe we can hope to see others here then.

[Black might not be her first choice but it seemed things were oddly Gryfindorcentric so who knew?]

I'm fine, I think. Aside from the idea of not getting to go home and being someone's personal entertainment. Can't imagine what sort of daft person thinks I'd be of any interest.

[That was a little too like compassion and care there Potter. Best be careful or someone might think you were a complete toerag after all.]

Well, they brought me here, and surely you'll get higher ratings. You're naturally brilliant at the job they gave you; I had to practice. But I haven't short-circuited anything or crashed, so I suppose that counts for something.

[ with half a grin, and a slight shrug. he misses sirius terribly (more and more frequently, now, he could use the distraction), but... ]

Something tells me Padfoot won't appreciate being shoved onto a spaceship, but here's hoping. Peter, too -- I haven't seen him yet, either.

[What's he on about? Being nice and complimentary... She was starting to not trust it.]

Well, I'm sure they picked us all for a reason. Just like the sorting hat. Must know something you don't yet.

[She wasn't being nasty, just not entirely warm and conversational.]

Maybe this place isn't big enough for all of you. We are in space, one wrong game of exploding snap and the whole thing might go.

Lily, my extent of knowledge concerning space and electricity and ships revolves around Star Wars.

I'm thinking Sirius and I would probably get caught before we could destroy the entire Fleet through accidental stupidity.

Merlin, Potter, I just hope this is another time your bravado is backed by enough luck or skill.

[It probably is! Boom! They'd be wizard and witch bits blasted into space.]

I don't know, you managed to get away with an awful lot bavk home.

Most likely a bit of both, and it does help that the augment lets me know what to do.

[She unconsciously rubbed at the back of her neck.]

What's it like? Being here, flying these ships?

[ -- james actually has to consider that for a moment. ]

... I miss home, and I miss the school -- I miss Sirius, and Peter, but ...

It's pretty amazing to be able to fly a ship, and the people I've met here, the people on board my ship, have all been brilliant. You adapt to it, in the end -- I haven't minded being here at all, except on the odd days.

{ he, of course, would still rather be home, but... overall? not bad. ]

I will miss them, when all this sets in I mean. Right now it's all so weird. Like when I first came to Hogwarts, everything is new and different and most things down work quite the same.

I just hope I do well, if I'm supposed to be here to help people I feel like I ought to know more about what I'm to do.

Your augment should tell you must of what you need to do -- and if not, you'll have people on board your ship. Stefan -- one of the people on my ship -- he's got the same augment you do. Maybe he'd be able to help you out?

[If she was willing? Just because she had declined Potter's offers to do everything from carry her books to bribe the fat lady to change the password to her name, didn't mean she was above accepting help where it was honestly offered.]

Yes, I'll talk to him and learn what I can if he's willing to teach me.

james pauses, though, before his expression shifts into something a bit softer, and he really does look genuinely happy. ]

I know I'm probably the last person in the universe you want to be stuck with, but let me know if I can do anything. Yeah?

[And maybe his change lead to something a bit softer in her as well. Maybe he was honestly trying here, he had been here longer and they did have a common history.]
