[It's taken Nightingale a while to figure out how to make the anonymous text function work, and even longer to decide it's worthwhile to post. Still, she doesn't have anything else to do, and this has been eating at her for a while...]

I realized recently it's been over a year since I was last home. Over a year since I've ever seen anyone from my world, even. And that year has been kind of a mess. Now I'm two crazy worlds removed from home, and it's not looking like I'll get to go back anytime soon. It's just now really starting to sink in. I'm starting to get homesick, I guess. But I know there's a bunch of people here who have been here even longer than I have. Or have a lot more pressing things to get back to. So... How do you cope? How can you deal with this for so long? After this long, my usual distractions aren't really working so well anymore.

I have not been here as long as you have. But I can understand how you must feel. The weight of this place, and what it means to be kept from your home, from the familiar. I can only speak for myself, but... this place has become my new "normal." Though, my life has never, ever truly been "normal" to begin with. As odd and scary and dangerous as this place can be often times, I have been able to draw comfort from getting to know and interact with other fleet members. Knowing that we are not alone. All of us are in this together. For better or worse. I do not know if you have found these words helpful, but perhaps simply knowing there are those here that share your feelings... Perhaps there is some comfort in that?

A little. I understand what it's like to not have a 'normal' life, too. And talking to other people does help, but... At the same time, it drives home just how alien I am to all of this.

Many of us are alien to this experience as well. Believe me, it is not just you alone in this.

I'm pretty sure I'm a bit more alien than most here.

Because back in my world, I knew all of one human I wasn't related to, for one.

I do not know if that makes you alien, so much as perhaps a little anti-social?

I had friends, they just weren't human. But I was that, too.

Is it truly so odd to have a large number of human friends?

Not really. But my point is about being alien.

As you have mentioned. What is it then about your being an alien that concerns you?
