[ she nods -- and permits a trickle of fondness in her expression. sansa quite likes sokka, despite his wayward thoughts about leadership and about whose voices mattered most. he continually pressures her to have a say in things. and she doesn't know how to handle that much responsibility. not without fear of retribution.

but as to jilly's question: ] More than, my lady. [ she doesn't drink from her tea. but she does inhale a noseful of its scent. ] I have actual family on the Blue Fish. It helps.

[Family could be a complicated thing--something she knew well even without the disruption caused by Azula's show arrival to the fleet--but there's no mistaking that fond hint of...almost pride...in Sansa's voice, however tempered. It was the way Jilly might speak of Geordie, Sophie, or Wendy if they found themselves here.]

That's wonderful. Sokka had said it happens sometimes, but there didn't seem to be any pattern to follow.

[it's not a particularly pleasant thought to Jilly, but for the moment she can be grateful that it doesn't only bring the unwelcome elements from peoples' homes]

No pattern at all. I have two brothers aboard: Bran and Robb, should you meet them. They are good and kind. I promise. But our other siblings haven't come at all, and I can't begin to understand why.

[The motions for beginning the recipe are easy, but that's not necessarily why she starts cooking then. She'd seen Sansa around the ship, little glimpses as they both went about their days, and from what little she'd seen, Sansa made her think of a bird...a finch, maybe. Graceful and quiet, Jilly had yet to see Sansa settle anywhere public for long, and even her greeting when the artist had arrived had been a promise to flee. Whether it was from shyness or simply introversion, Jilly didn't want to force her to leave the comfort of the galley kitchen if she didn't want to.

So the artist focused her visible attention on her task, gathering supplies and beginning the evening's meal as she listened.]

Do you have a lot more siblings who still aren't here?

[ her answer carries the odd hesitation of someone who isn't necessarily accustomed to giving it. ever since losing so much, her answer has changed to include jon snow. and ever since she'd refashioned herself as alayne stone before arriving in the fleet, she'd learned how to be an entirely different person. ]

A sister, too. And another brother. As well as my half-brother.

Enough to crew a whole ship on your own. [she says it lightly. It's not much of substance, both because of that hesitation she hears in Sansa's voice and also her own experience with how complicated "family" could be.

There's family she would love to see here. Geordie. Wendy. Sophie. Angel. Lou. Joe.

But her blood...? That was something else altogether.

So she lets Sansa take the lead, to talk about them or let the subject lie.]

Yes. Exactly so.

[ what else can she say? it isn't fair to lay upon the new cook how that 'crew' of kin are all thought dead, or known dead, or were missing. to westeros, she is the remaining heir to winterfell. and even she is hidden away. disguised. if they crewed a ship, then their ship has faltered. their name besmirched and their home claimed by enemies.

not knowing what she does, sansa tries to push the subject off her family: ] And you, Lady Jilly? Have you got a big family?
