[Hakkai rises back to consciousness very slowly, with a sense of dread whose source he can't immediately identify. He's cold, all the way down to his bones...but that's not surprising, he remembers, considering where they last were.

His eyes fly open, and he sits up in alarm. Although the fight was over, they were definitely not out of danger yet, wounded and in the open with no shelter. He hadn't thought he'd been so drained from healing Sanzo as to lose consciousness...

...but the surroundings that meet his eyes are definitely not a remote mountainside, and perhaps even more surprisingly, nothing hurts. Did someone find them? How long has he been asleep?

There doesn't seem to be anyone around, but he calls out anyway, a little hesitantly.]

...Is anyone there?

[No helpful villagers - or creepy scientists, as seems a little more likely in this kind of setting - make an immediate appearance, and he's fully healed and recovered from the chi drain of...whenever he was last conscious, so he gets up to look around.]

[ there's another small shrug and a shake of her head. ]

I do not. But I know they are capable of taking anyone, from any point in time, and bringing them here without any form of warning. They are also capable of sending us back - and as you might expect, we have little control over that as well.

[ He tilts his head, eyes narrowing in mild confusion as he zeroes in on one particular part of that information: ] 'From any point in time'? Could you elaborate on that a little bit, perhaps?

[ silence. she has to go through it in her mind - where it still only vaguely makes sense - and hope that the words don't come out sounding nonsensical to him. ]

Any point in your history, they can pull you from. For example: two people who know each other arrive here at the same time - but one is from an earlier point in their history where they do not know the other. One knows the events of the future, but the other only knows what he has lived thus far. If that makes any sense to you.

[ It takes him a moment to parse that, but then he nods slowly. ] I think I see, yes.

[ Not the kind of thing he's going to ask Sanzo over the communicators, though, not after what he's just been through. It'll have to wait until they meet in person. ]

Does that happen often?

Often enough that I have made a note of it.

[ she's still not what to make of it either, because she's only heard about it happening to others and has yet to run into anyone from her world that's be put in the same situation. she's not entirely sure how she feels about that, honestly. ]

Was there anything else you needed clarification on?

[ 'What are you?' She's obviously not human, and 'pointy ears and facial markings' generally means something fairly specific where he comes from. But he can't figure out a way to ask it that doesn't sound overly suspicious or terribly awkward. ]
