Hey. [New Flooters, meet your resident weird-looking alien girl.] If you haven't met me yet, my name's Ahsoka Tano.

Starting tomorrow morning at 0700, I'm going to be holding regular guided meditation sessions in the Prayer Room for anyone who wants to learn. Lessons are free of charge and you don't need to know me or ask to come along. I'll be there every morning, so anyone can come as they please. [She figures that might help the anonymous person she promised to teach as well. They don't have to reveal who they are to her if they don't want to.]

I know it's early, but I thought early would be best so that those of you who have to go to work in the morning can make it. Plus, then you can start the day off on a high note! Meditation is a great way to help manage anxiety and stress. It's also proven to improve concentration and clarity of mind.

... In the evenings at 1800, I'll be holding some easy self defense classes in the Iskaulit gym, every Tuesday and Thursday. It's just basic stuff, like how to get away from different kinds of attackers. Don't worry if you think you're too small or not fit enough or whatever. There's a way for everyone.

It is a beginners class, but if you're experienced and want to help out, I'd appreciate any volunteers to partner up with people! Otherwise I'm going to be taking a lot of punches on my own, haha.

[If you simply want to show up to one of Ahsoka's classes, just go ahead. She'll be where she said she'd be! You don't have to show up to the first class, you can handwave going any day of the week. Turn up to a full class, an empty class, it's up to you.

Also, if you have a character who would volunteer to help Ahsoka out with the self defense classes, feel free to just tag into any relevant top levels from beginners if they're relevant to your interests. Don't wait for me to match you up with people, in other words.]

[Vima just shows up on the Iskaulit, bringing with her the piece of rebar that stands in for her lightsaber and the little remote that her cap'n got her.

...That's a little more than 'basic self-defense,' but Vima's been itching to spar against a real opponent and she's hoping Ahsoka feels similarly. Anyway, Vima knows some basics herself, so maybe she can help. She activates the thing and sets it to follow when she walks in.]

Hey there. I heard you were holding a few training sessions.

Yep. That's me!

Hey, maybe you can help me demonstrate some of the moves. Are you up for it?

[Vima grins.]

You bet!

[...]

Some of them. I don't have half the experience that you do.

No way. I bet you're great! Greater than great.

[Oh man, Ahsoka, it's flattering but.]

Maybe the Vima you saw in the holocron, but honestly... I haven't trained for very long. Definitely not in real combat.

[that's kind of why she went running off to Ulic in the first place.]

Really?

Well, no time like the present for practice!

That's what I figured. [She spins the rebar in her hand.] I've been doing some practice with this, and the captain got me a remote--like the kind you use with a real lightsaber.

[She gives it a poke, and it beeps irritatedly.]

Pretty neat, huh?

Nice! I made some wooden ones myself, back on Arslae. The balance isn't right, of course, but... well, they make do in a pinch.

Want to go a round?

You bet! [It'll be good to spar against someone who has the Force--Ulic was an excellent teacher, but this will add an extra challenge. Vima moves out onto the floor and takes up a ready stance.] Let's see how much of a Master I'm cut out for.

Meet you in the gym in ten?

Sounds good.

[Vima is there, stretching and limbering up. It's been a long time since she's sparred against another Jedi. Truthfully she's a little nervous. Considering her apparent reputation, she doesn't want to make a fool of herself.

Oh well. Even if she does, it all be a learning experience. ]

[Ahsoka's waiting at the gym doing stretches and handstands when Vima comes in. She turns herself right-side up and lands on her feet, grinning at the other girl. To the side are a variety of wooden sticks carved to look like various lightsabers Ahsoka made out of cheap materials back on Arslae.]

Hey! You made it. Want to pick your poison?

Of course! [Vima inspects the sticksabers.] And here I thought I was pretty good for making just one lightsaber.

[She picks out a standard-length one, since that most resembles the one she made for herself.]

We should paint these up, too.

[resnipstance]

[They wooden sabers are weighted on the bottom around the hilt to more closely resemble the weighting of a real lightsaber. It doesn't compare of course, but it feels better than Ahsoka's first attempt, which had no weighting felt all wrong.

Ahsoka picks up another standard length sticksaber and a smaller, shoto-length one and twirls it in her off hand, idly, before settling both into her reverse grip.]

I thought about that. But these are kind of sad, don't you think? Now that we're in a place with some real technology, I was thinking it shouldn't be too hard to get the materials for making a training saber. It wouldn't be useful for anything other than practice and being a night-light, but...

[She shrugs. Better than nothing, right?]

[Vima gives the weapon a twirl. It's a clever set-up, and she wishes she'd thought of it.]

I dunno. I think it would be nice--it's not the real thing, but it'd be a nice reminder of what it's supposed to look like. [She grins at Ahsoka's suggestion, though.] But if we could build some proper training sabers... there's enough around, all we need is to rig up some emitters.

[She takes note of Ahsoka's distinctive grip... and the double weapon. A little different than what Ulic taught her.]

That's an interesting style.

[Ahsoka grins and gives a little shrug.]

Yeah, I know, it's unusual. But it suits me. I'm small and fast, but I'm not going to be winning any contests of strength or reach any time soon. Reverse grip gives me a wider and faster range for defense. And a second lightsaber means I can capitalise on my speed to overwhelm opponents who might be physically stronger than me.

[Vima nods--that makes sense. That second lightsaber would make a good shield, or a good counterattack when it's least expected.]

It'd let you block a lot of shots--and confuse anyone else who's coming at you with a lightsaber.

[Ulic had taught her what he used: Djem So. It's good for dueling, and Vima likes it. Darting in feels more satisfying than being constantly on the defense.

She takes up her ready stance.]

I'll have to take notes.

[Djem So, huh? Anakin's preferred style. She's more than used to that. Ahsoka grins in her ready stance as well.]

Got it in one.

[Then Ahsoka darts in with only the smallest hint of a warning, a flurry of movement and light strikes. None if it's particularly vicious-- it's a test. She's testing to see how fast a bout Vima can handle, gauging what pace to set.]

[Whoop, here we go! Ahsoka is definitely faster than Ulic, and Vima had been expecting that. His admonishment not to let her guard drop is going to get the workout it needs, that's for sure.

She finds herself quickly on the defensive, with a higher number of blocks than counters. Still, she keeps her eyes--and her senses--sharp, jabbing her stick in whenever she sees the chance. She knows Ahsoka is sussing out her skill level, but Vima wants to keep up.]

[Not bad, Ahsoka thinks, impressed. She's not going at full speed-- that would be rude when they're just starting out-- but there aren't many fourteen year old padawans who could keep up with Ahsoka's current speed, either. After a few careful test runs, Ahsoka's able to settle into a rhythm she thinks is a good pace for both of them. Back and forth, attacking, parrying, counter-attacking. Ahsoka knows how to keep a practice bout going for a while. None of her strikes are particularly strong-- the better to go fast and last longer. When most of your enemies are droids, you don't really need strength anyway. A strong cut will slice through a droid just as easily as a weak one. Rather, her strikes are fast and precise, rarely allowing an opening.

It's nice. Familiar. Something she's able to lose herself in. Traditional meditation is something she's always had to work on-- she's never been good at it, and she's never really liked it. Rather, she accepts it as a necessity. But this? This feels like meditation to her. Just her and her sabers as an extension of her body, moving in time with another like a dance.]

[It's a little more nervous on Vima's end--Ulic was a good teacher, but dealing with someone of her own age and better experience keeps her on her toes.

Still, she's happy with that. She can put the skills he showed her to good use--guard up, yes, definitely--and with an opponent like Ahsoka, Vima will have to improve just to keep up. She's pleased when they settle into a good rhythm, and takes note of Ahsoka's manner once they do: it seems calm, something comfortable to her. It's steady. There's a flow.]

You really like this, huh?

[Ahsoka just grins as she parries another strike.]

This is what I was born to do.

[A Jedi, born to do battle? Now... that's not a thing Vima is sure she agrees with. She wouldn't say that about herself, or her mom, or any other Jedi she knows.

(Well, maybe Sylvar, but that almost ended in the dark side.)]

Really? That's an interesting thing to say.

[but she sounds curious, not judgmental.]

[It's easy to forget when she's so young and small, but togruta are predators. She talks easily as she counters and strikes, counters and strikes, focus not wavering for a moment.]

Don't get me wrong. I don't like fighting. [Well, she might like it a little.] I want the war to end as soon as possible, just like everybody else. But there's a certain kind of thrill you get when you go up against somebody else with skill, rather than a mindless tinny. [Ahsoka's nickname for droids.]

[Her ability to converse in the midst of fighting is pretty impressive. Vima's own reply has to come between blocks and counters.]

Right--it's a challenge, and you have--ow!--to keep on your toes. [She grins sheepishly. Have a care, Vima.] I do feel pretty alive right now, that's for sure.
