If half of them were wizards, everybody would've noticed by now. And 'magic' would be real.

Shockingly, witches and wizards are good at hiding.

We had this bit of a thing called 'witch burnings' in the 1600s, and we decided that non-magical folks weren't really too keen on having us around. So we went into hiding.

I imagine they would be to people who don't have magic, but we're ... a species, I suppose? We're an entire group of people. Not all that special.
