Who: margaery tyrell.
Broadcast: fleet wide.
Action: Marsiva ; hospitality deck
When: current
[ the girl who sits in front of the camera seems as if she is quite well-versed in this manner of communication. if she had spent precious time watching others from afar before trying her hand at it as to not look foolish, it does not show. the only hint of how foreign she is to this setting is her manner of dress but give it a few seconds and you might start thinking this is somehow natural, too.
after all, she does seem very comfortable. Margaery's smile is sweet and bright, her hair is flowing down her shoulders and a few roses are placed neatly in her lap, almost a portrait-worthy moment before she speaks. ]
If I am not entirely mistaken, these are our best chance of speaking to one another. I did not wish to appear ill-mannered in failing to introduce myself.
[ to her fellow hostages and to the audience watching. she made certain to appear especially lovely for this. if they love you from the first moment, they shall be yours forever if you mind your step. ]
I am Margaery of House Tyrell; some of you I had the pleasure of meeting already and as for the rest, I am eager to speak to you as soon as it pleases you. I understand we are to spend quite some time together and it would please me to know each and every one of you. I am certain you have fascinating tales to tell of your time here or where you come from; if you ever wish to share, I shall be honored to provide company. I know little of such vessels and adventures but I am keen to learn all that I may.
[ and win whatever game this is. she dips her chin, a humble gesture. ]
For now, I hope I am welcome among you and dearly hope this finds you well.

video;
[ margaery peers closely at her, a smile playing on her lips at the nickname and her words. a woman well-versed in their surroundings is someone worthy of keeping close. differences is levels of formality are a small bridge to cross over. ]
You are so sweet to offer me your help, you have my thanks. I know so very little of this scenery. Have you spent most of your life in space?
no subject
Commander Ebbisaryn. Really, I'm not much for formality, but that's the one to use if you're keen on it. Am I to call you Lady Tyrell or Lady Margaery?
[Most places she's been, it's the difference between an heir apparent and the latter-born children. She rubs elbows with monarchs and politicians galore, she can pretend the given pleasantries without much hardship.]
And yeah. Different universe, of course, the 'Fleet and her ways are a bit of a mystery to me as yet, but I've been ['up her skirts' no she's not going to say that to a Proper Lady, she clears her throat very slightly] in space about fifteen years now. Can't say I'll ever return to worlder life.

[ she smiles. Women seem to be greatly qualified in this realm. she is more than willing to admire them all for achieving their titles and maintaining them. it cannot have been easy, no matter where they have come from. ]
Lady Margaery, though I do wish you would name me simply Margaery, if it pleases you.
[ she listens carefully and nods ]
How brave you are. I cannot imagine it. I am so accustomed to having both feet on the ground and enjoying the sunshine.
her chuckle is almost shy ]
You must think me so silly.
no subject
Ah, it ain't-- [no, hold on. let her switch gears.] It isn't exactly a matter of bravery. I'm a soldier and I wouldn't trade it for the world, but soldiering isn't for everyone and there's not a whit wrong with finding fulfillment in other avenues of life - be it sunshine or whatever else you enjoy. Anyone thinks that's silly hasn't seen enough of the world to know better.
[Okay, that's a mite preachy. Hindsight's enough to make her grimace faintly, but this is in all actuality her very first experience with that sort of attitude and she's at something of a loss.]
no subject
[ at one point or another. she smiles a little. ]
You are very kind to tell me so. I feel a bit at loss in this scenery, there is so much that is new to me. I suppose I, like others, would have to learn during my stay here.
no subject
Well, learning's half of life. Don't step out any airlocks and you're on the right track, leastwise. Mind if I ask what it's like where you're from?
no subject
[ at the very least, she is a quick and avid learner. already she does not feel as lost as she did during the first blurry moments of her arrival. ]
Very different, Commander Ebbisaryn. Ships only sail on water, to start and no woman has ever dreamed of being named a commander of anything. It is - harder for a woman to prove her worth. Men are expected to fight and we are expected to support them and bear their children and weep over them if they fall in battle.
[ not margaery, however. her grandmother had taught her well and the girl herself has greater ambitions. but the way to reaching them goes through charm and beauty and not swords or battles. ]
no subject
It's-- ah, an air-controlled compartment between parallel doors to allow things like docking with other crafts or going out into space without having to worry about the pressure differential.
[Sorry, Margaery, she may not have explained that properly to account for the differences in technical vernacular, because she is really hung up on that next part. This is really her first-ever encounter with sexism. Mind-boggling.]
Why the bloody-- [her voice rises in pitch. she marshals it.] I see. That's... unusual, far as I'm concerned. Someone's gender seems a rather arbitrary reason to ascribe less worth to their person.
no subject
[ but ok wait a moment, back to air locks ]
how will I know to recognize such an - air lock?
[ whatever it may mean. ]
no subject
Also give her a moment, because she's going to pack up her communicator and head to the Three Twins' airlock. She demonstrates its use, explaining the various components - in simpler terms now that she's got her wits about her once more - and when she's finished,]
It's really not that easy to accidentally open one. You'll be fine, darling. Once you get assigned to your ship you can talk your captain into showing you the ropes, all right? None of the airlocks on the Marsiva can be opened to begin with.
[And then, ruminating on that anything they wish to be--]
So if I may, Margaery. What is it you'd wish to be? Given the opportunity.
no subject
[ but at the very least, it's a comfort to know she cannot simply fall through the floor. ]
Where I come from, I am to be queen. I admit I want little else, my people do need their queen to stand by their side.
no subject
Quite a bit of responsibility, that?
no subject
Very much so, my people have been through difficult times; I see it as my duty to abide by them and give them hope especially because of that.
no subject
[No harm in hoping. Shai gives her an encouraging little smile.]
Attitude like that's got you on the right track, seems like. Your people are lucky to have you.
no subject
You are so kind to say so, thank you. It comforts me so to hear you say that, I pray to do well for them.
no subject
Well-- here's hoping we can get you back to them before too long. You need anything else, feel free to ask. You can contact folks directly via their user ID, by the by. If no one's shown you that trick yet. Or you could swing by the Three Twins as needs be.
no subject
I am only learning the ways of this realm but I shall be certain to do so.
[ a beat and her smile turns coy ]
Shall I be your guest if I do come visit?
