[ The video activates itself to reveal a young man staring into space. His eyes are probably the most startling thing about him. Bright, eerily blue eyes that seem to pierce the fabric of reality. You may also see brown flecks of creatures embedded into his skin, near the neck and face.

And suddenly his gaze snaps back to the camera and he is all smiles and good intentions, as if a switch had been turned on. He sits on one of the many beds on the Marsiva Deck and kicks his legs, caught between the impression of a boy and a man.

( or something much older and far more dangerous ) ]

I do not need the spiel and I'm sure you are all quite thankful for that, but I am curious to know what qualifies as entertainment for our most benevolent hosts?

[ At first, there's a curl of delight in Hermione, her heart racing - because it looks like someone she knows is here, someone she recognises, and the voice - it all screams home to her in a way she can't really smother. It's only when she turns on the feed properly and leans close to watch that she realises this isn't the man she had been hoping to see - she knows Charles, after all, and the features might be the same but the person is different.

The disappointment is difficult to smother and she swallows, pushing it away before she speaks. ]

I'd imagine any kind of drama would work. That always seemed to be the case at home.

[ Ah. He does tend to feel a little bad about not being the person people expected. ]

Drama begets drama and our omnipotent overlords love it all.

[ A little gently. ] My apologies for not being the man you look for.

[ A pause, because - how? Charles was a telepath and she had welcomed that, but this man isn't Charles - but then she shakes her head. ]

It's not your fault. You didn't ask to look like him... Or he didn't ask to look like you. It's a little confusing.

[ She smiles, though, brightening. ]

It's nice to meet you all the same. I'm Hermione.

I am Leto.

[ His other name - his given name during his time on Aather was a little too personal to share. ]

Either way, asked or not, it is only polite to offer some form of condolences.

Hi, Leto.

[ She lifts her hand and waves, fingers wiggling a little before she shakes her head. ]

Thank you. Charles is wonderful, but I'm sure you're just as wonderful yourself.

[ He chuckles softly. ]

That, I believe, is a matter of debate and might need the man in question to be present for it.

Then we'll check if he ever turns up here. Otherwise, I'll just have to get to know you and see for myself.

[ It's as easy as that, at least for her. ]

[ Leto wonders if he will. Time is a little murky when it comes to new arrivals. ]

Did you have any other questions? I mean, I'm rather new myself but I don't mind helping if you need it. Otherwise...

[ She shifts, almost awkward. ]

You've arrived at a time where the only thing we're worrying about is sweets, so that's good?

It means I have excellent timing, as always.

But no, I'm fortunate enough to already have a grasp of the situation.

Unless you're allergic to gumballs, in which case I'd suggest you hide.

[ ... Her sense of humour has been a little warped, she thinks. ]

I'm glad to hear it. I suppose that means you'll be leaving them alone, yes?

I'm fortunate enough to be spared that affliction. I've never been one for sweets. They tend to be considered a luxury and my family was never big on those.

[ Even though he was the heir, he was raised as a Fremen, to live as one in the sietch. Water was their luxury, their necessity, their driving force. Even though his father had tamed Arrakis to be gentler on them, sweets were never something Fremen craved or cared for.

Too much sweetness, they would say, and you'd lose the edge of the desert. ]

I have to admit that I wasn't really keen on them either, especially not the magical ones. Why run the risk of getting a sweet that tastes like vomit or earwax when you can eat something much nicer and much safer?

[ She huffs, shaking her head, arms crossed. ]

And don't get me started on the sugar quills.

I imagine it's to lend some spontaneity and caution to the magical world of sweets. But far be it for me to comprehend a wizard's mind.

[ His eyes twinkle. ]

Dare I ask?

I'm not sure who actually invented them, but I'm sure they had a jolly good time with it.

[ Reminds her of a certain pair of irritating twins... Or, rather, one twin. Ah. ]

People would use them in the library or in exams - they looked like quills and then they would sit and eat them, leaving sugar everywhere. It was irritating.

Perhaps not the most charming of tricks. Especially to those who wish to further their knowledge.

[ He does, however, find it hilarious. ]

It can't hurt, to find a little fun in dark times.

No, I suppose not. We had the twins for that - they set up a joke shop that I'm sure was designed to make my life more difficult.

[ Ah, but - she bites back her words. ]

Sorry, I'm rambling.

Don't be. Sometimes, all we want is to be listened to.

Oh... I suppose - that's true.

[ And now she's a little flustered. ]

[ He tilts his head at her, deferential. ]

Besides, hearing about other people, their stories, their lives . . . is important to me. It's important to keep them alive.

[ So much like Charles and, yet, so different from him. She needs to get used to that, she supposes. ]

It is important. That's - it's why I didn't want to leave the world I was in before. The people their, their stories... They're special.

If you do not leave, then how will you pass it onto others?

Sometimes, you must leave. Whether you want to or not.

And sometimes we hear things we don't want to hear.

[ She smiles, shaking her head. ]

I'll get used to being away. I just miss it.

There is time for an adjustment period.

[ He knew he needed one after leaving Aather. ]

You're right, of course. It's true for any situation.

[ She watches for a moment, hesitant, before her face breaks into a smile. ]

Has anyone told you that you're very wise, Leto?
