Action: There's a new engineer joining the Bishop.
When: She might manage to wait five minutes after the latest shuffling.

The layout of these controls don't make any kind of sense. Not by any scheme I've seen on a ship, anyway.

[Yep, there is a teenager with her device propped on a nearby console, leaning elbows on another while she peers at it, intent. As she goes, she nearly taps buttons and levers, behaving enough not to actually muck with anything.]

It's not like snubfighter controls. Believe me, I know. But if this were anything like a Corellian YT-series I'd expect this to handle pitch, and...that should be yaw. Are the thrusters strictly forward? Maybe there's a z-axis control.

[These are all incorrect, and she seems to understand that. She chews her bottom lip, distracted with thought, before she finally turns her head to look directly into the camera again.]

How universal are the designs on these ships? I'm on Bishop, and there's a few things I can peg as customizations, but not too much. I've got a feeling I should try to learn as much as I can. Especially if I'm going to have to open a few of these panels up after a while to make sure it keeps working correctly.

[Admittedly, part of that feeling is the simple fact that regardless of the circumstances surrounding her presence in this fleet, she is stoked about learning the intricacies of a new style of ship.]

[She's making a face for being called a 'kitten,' but Haruka's working the controls and that means she has Jaina's undivided attention. No matter how much a certain elf is bothered by Jaina's proximity to any controls.]

I grew up studying these things. Just with a different design.

So this won't be your first time in space. [ Hey, Haruka saw how careful Jaina was not to touch things. She recognizes that behavior, though usually she sees it in car enthusiasts - people who know better than to touch what they don't fully understand, but get excited by it, all the same.

Aaaand she has control. Not that they can do much until they get the security clearance taken care of. ]

I can take a Hapan shuttle through a debris field, no problem. As long as we're not ambushed.

How old are you?

[ Not judgmental. Curious, maybe. Impressed, definitely. ]

About fourteen. Too young for my own ship, but Dad's been letting me take the controls on the Falcon more often.

[ Haruka laughs at that. She wasn't driving underage back home for years, what are you talking about, that would be completely irresponsible...for anyone who wasn't a really, really good driver... ] Then you've got a bright future ahead of you.

[ She gestures to some elements of her control panel. ] See? It's laid out differently on mine.

[She's leaning in to look. The compliment definitely prompts a bit of pride in her expression.]

And it's the augment that lets you keep the two straight. Did you have any training before this?

Not on spaceships. [ Just on motorcycles. And sports cars. And helicopters. And.

Atroma wasn't kind enough to offer training, either. They just stuck a completely suspicious device into her head. ]

Not on spaceships. But on something else?

[Jaina clearly thinks the pilot is pretty cool. She's tapping her chin while she decides to guess.]

A speeder, right? Or maybe it's a skyhopper.

[ Haruka chuckles. Her demeanor is doing nothing to interrupt the whole coolness thing. ] Maybe I'll get to show you sometime.

[ If they ever dock on a station or a planet with comparable technology. To....Earth in the 1990s.

Haruka is not about to admit she only played with her first touchscreen earlier this month. ]

[Jaina will remember that!]

So what can we do in the meantime?

While we're docked?

[ Haruka pauses for "thought". ] Window shop, maybe.

[ Looking at all the tech in this Solar System is pretty neat. ]

Souvenirs?

I'm not sure they'll take credits from the New Republic.

Observing's free.

[ She thinks. ] The shuttles might still work.

[ Might not be worth risking the attention of whatever runs security here, but. It's a thought. ]

[Hmm.]

[ Wink. She likes this kid. Haruka begins unbuckling herself from where she'd been demonstrating how they would fly if they could fly. ]

[Practically hopping up, yep.]

[ Haruka laughs. ] How organized do you think this is?

[ Then again, the only person who she thinks might care where she goes tends to be able to read her mind enough to find her anyway. She may be spoiled.
