The layout of these controls don't make any kind of sense. Not by any scheme I've seen on a ship, anyway.

[Yep, there is a teenager with her device propped on a nearby console, leaning elbows on another while she peers at it, intent. As she goes, she nearly taps buttons and levers, behaving enough not to actually muck with anything.]

It's not like snubfighter controls. Believe me, I know. But if this were anything like a Corellian YT-series I'd expect this to handle pitch, and...that should be yaw. Are the thrusters strictly forward? Maybe there's a z-axis control.

[These are all incorrect, and she seems to understand that. She chews her bottom lip, distracted with thought, before she finally turns her head to look directly into the camera again.]

How universal are the designs on these ships? I'm on Bishop, and there's a few things I can peg as customizations, but not too much. I've got a feeling I should try to learn as much as I can. Especially if I'm going to have to open a few of these panels up after a while to make sure it keeps working correctly.

[Admittedly, part of that feeling is the simple fact that regardless of the circumstances surrounding her presence in this fleet, she is stoked about learning the intricacies of a new style of ship.]

Like the back of my hand. My family has a YT freighter, and dad was great about letting me get designs to study.

[She's very proud of this. The home part, that's a little more complicated.]

Where is home for you? Are you from Shili? Most of my family has been living on Coruscant, but I'm spending more time on Yavin 4 for the academy these days.

Oh! I'm from Coruscant too! Sort of. I was born on Shili, yes. But Coruscant is where I grew up.

[There's something vaguely familiar about the girl's bright brown eyes and sharp brows, but it's not a feeling she pays much attention to--it's the mention of Corellian ships that really catches her attention. Someone else from their galaxy, clearly--and young, which is all the more reason to offer an answer.]

The Bishop probably isn't much like what you're used to, but you should have some knowledge of whatever you need to do. [A pause.] Has anyone told you about your augment yet?

[She makes a face, and her hand comes up. Stopping short of actually touching it, though. For the moment, she's too scattered to latch onto the fact that Leia doesn't entirely recognize her.]

I noticed. There was an odd feeling. But I can't get a good sense of it like I can most machines.

[She shrugs, and gives the camera a wry smile.]

Sorry -- it's not my fault. I didn't even think I'd be seeing you here. We're a long way from the Core worlds, right?

Whatever the augments are, the technology behind them outstrips most of what we have at home. They're capable of some pretty impressive stunts.

[Her brow furrows slightly. I didn't even think I'd be seeing you here says the girl knows her, but Leia's never seen her before in her life.]

We're in another galaxy, as far as anyone can tell. A long way from the Core.

[ unlike his observant better half, nothing really pings him about this girl except the mention of coreillian freighters, which means this girl is from his universe. he's sitting in the pilot's chair of the huntress, watching critically, before speaking. ]

You can't fly the ships unless you have the pilot augment.

You can memorize the controls all you want, but the ship won't react to you.

[She feels like this whole bored thing is her dad trying to play it cool for a surprise. Han definitely tries to play it cool a lot, so it doesn't seem that far-fetched.]

Even if you have the right knowledge, it takes the right augment. So that means there's something in the code, right? Like a proximity key.

I know. I'm not old enough to try, am I?

[It would be a new twist on an old story. She's allowed to fly sometimes, but she doesn't get her own ship until she's older. Not that it keeps her from trying.]

[ The minute she mentioned the word Corellian, Obi-Wan is already on edge. He had only just recently managed to regain his serenity and focus and he's not keen on finding out another piece of the future.

Though, perhaps she's from the past.

Either way, he's not going to ask. ]

I believe each ship is modified differently. There might be some characteristics that are different though.

[For her part, Jaina doesn't recognize Obi-wan on sight. She's heard of Old Ben, and the Clone Wars are partly a matter of historical record...but the Empire had a good twenty years or so to purge certain things from the history books. She can't even say he looks like Old Ben, because there are no celebrity holoimages of crazy old hermits from Tatooine.

She's happy to bother on about the ships, though.]

I guess that makes sense. If each ship is too radically different, you're never going to be able to properly supply them all on the journey, right? There would be compatibility issues.

Precisely. It probably also discourages too many people on one ship. They need these filled to capacity. Or more, lately.

[Oh my fucking god. Here comes a small elf who looks about Jaina's age, and he's dashing onto the bridge with with hands up and a panicked expression.]

Please don't touch the controls if you do not know what you are doing!

[In fact, he's just going to shove his arms in the way so she can't... actually touch anything without moving him. His eyes are a bright, glowing green. He means business.]

Whatever your augment is, that is what you should be concerned with. Not crashing us into the space station. For Light's sake, have you any common sense?!

[Her chin lifts, but she goes ahead and moves her hands away from the controls. Not much making him panic over a little button pushing. Jaina is stubborn, not contrary.]

Even if I just stick to maintenance of the ship, I'll do better if I understand how the controls handle the ship's systems.

[Have a challenging grin. She has a bit of experience coming up with excuses to try getting people to let her have and fly ships, and thinks she has some excellent reasons.]

Or maybe next time we need a tune-up I accidentally crosswire something and we heave port when we needed to juke starboard.

[Belthazar is very contrary when he wants to be. Maybe when he's done panicking.]

Your augment directs you to do one thing, and you can do that one thing well. If you try to do anything else you will only bring disaster.

[He scowls. He won't be intimidated by a girl! Though, his glare is about as effective as a kitten fluffing up at its own reflection.]

Besides, we have two pilots already. If you are that bored, you can bother the captain and very capable engineer of this ship. His name is Hiro, and he will surely have more patience for your antics than I do.

There are some minor modifications depending on the ship, but as far as I can tell the basic controls are all the same. Have you also noticed there's no hyperdrive yet?

[ Because boy, let her tell you how much that bugs her. ]

[She nods along. Hera makes sense, and Jaina likes the train of thought.]

Jaina Solo. Nice to meet you, Hera.

The hyperdrive could be a problem if we want to get anywhere. It's not uncommon with a carrier ship, though -- kind of like how TIE fighters don't have hyperdrives. They get scrambled from star destroyers or bases when they're needed.

Well, it makes leaving the rest of the fleet impossible, if it wasn't already.

[ Is she a little bitter about that? Maybe. No matter how little direct supervision they have, they're still captives here. ]

[Jaina doesn't question someone listening in -- it's an open channel, and she's not terribly worried about privacy. Besides, she's proud when she gets compliments like that.]

Not exactly. More like a young jedi knight. We've done a lot, but I bet we'll have even more to learn.

[She doesn't recognize Vima, and she likes to think she knows the classmates pretty well. Considering what everyon'e been saying, though...]

So how do I tell if you're from before me, or after me?

Judging by previous experience, I'm going to guess I'm from way before. So far I've only met Jedi who are from four thousand years after my time.

I haven't seen someone use hooves on a ship's controls before. Think I could get a demonstration?

Or maybe she's a padawan from his time. All he knows is he's not going to find out unless he asks. ]

[Jaina has not had enough time to adjust to all this time business. She'll glance to the screen, fail to recognize him, and go back to examining a panel while chewing on her lip. Forgetting about the ship is a tall order okay!]
