The layout of these controls don't make any kind of sense. Not by any scheme I've seen on a ship, anyway.

[Yep, there is a teenager with her device propped on a nearby console, leaning elbows on another while she peers at it, intent. As she goes, she nearly taps buttons and levers, behaving enough not to actually muck with anything.]

It's not like snubfighter controls. Believe me, I know. But if this were anything like a Corellian YT-series I'd expect this to handle pitch, and...that should be yaw. Are the thrusters strictly forward? Maybe there's a z-axis control.

[These are all incorrect, and she seems to understand that. She chews her bottom lip, distracted with thought, before she finally turns her head to look directly into the camera again.]

How universal are the designs on these ships? I'm on Bishop, and there's a few things I can peg as customizations, but not too much. I've got a feeling I should try to learn as much as I can. Especially if I'm going to have to open a few of these panels up after a while to make sure it keeps working correctly.

[Admittedly, part of that feeling is the simple fact that regardless of the circumstances surrounding her presence in this fleet, she is stoked about learning the intricacies of a new style of ship.]

[ He doesn't recognize her, so there's a chance that she's from the future and he has a bad time talking to anyone who could be from the future, thanks to Leia.

Or maybe she's a padawan from his time. All he knows is he's not going to find out unless he asks. ]

Forget about the ship for second. What year is it?

[Jaina has not had enough time to adjust to all this time business. She'll glance to the screen, fail to recognize him, and go back to examining a panel while chewing on her lip. Forgetting about the ship is a tall order okay!]

[ ABY. No idea what that means. Great, so future it is. Great. Time to move on to something immediately more pressing and less able to break his mind. ]

The ship's not meant to be something everyone can figure out. And don't-- Do not pry at the panels. You'll get electrocuted and trust me, it's not fun.

How am I supposed to maintain the place if I get shocked every time I try working on something? I'll just have to make sure I'm grounded.

[It's becoming quite clear it won't be that simple, though.]

Anyway, I'm Jaina Solo. Think you could return the favor?

You maintain the basic stuff; routine checks, calibrations, that sort of thing. Any modifications you want to think about doing, don't. I was grounded too, and like I said, not fun.

There's another Solo on board. Related?

I'll be careful. It's too bad, it looks like the ship could use some more customization.

[She nods, not at all concerned about sharing the information; she's used to family connections being a public affair anyway.]

My dad is Han Solo. I'm glad he's here, too. It makes things simpler.

[ He nods slowly and sternly.

They have a child together. That's... not unusual and he bears no particular hard feelings about that aside from the usual unease and disgust that comes from hearing Leia and Han Solo's name, respectively. Honesty now would make things simpler. ]

My name is Anakin Skywalker. I'm a Jedi Knight and general for the Galactic Republic Army, and currently, just a pilot on Paisley.

[ She can make the connection, if she wants. He's not going to bother saying it. ]

Your dad taught you to fly?

[The connection is immediate, and her eyes are going a bit wide. But he's talking around it, so she's not entirely sure what to say, especially since he goes straight into giving her a question to answer.]

You bet. The Falcon is a great ship, and I've studied the specs for a few others. One of my friends lets me captain her ship, too -- it's a Hapan shuttle. The Rock Dragon.

Why 'just a pilot?' Being a Jedi still means a lot, doesn't it?

[ The Falcon. He's never heard of it but by the way Jaina describes, it already sounds better than the junk heap he ...abscond.

Curtly: ]

It does. It's the highest honor in the Republic and anywhere else.

[ He looks pained, gut punched at one simple word. So much that he has to rub his temples and close his eyes for a moment. ]

[ How do you start. ]

Don't. [ A beat and then he huffs. ] You can't--

[ He paused again and crossed his arms, his mouth pressed to a thin line before he covered it with a hand, rubbing his chin. He finally gestures at himself. ]

Oh, no. Ahsoka, she loves to argue. In fact, I give you permission to argue with her as often as possible.

Noted. But that doesn't mean I'm going to argue.

[At least he doesn't also have to deal with overly quirky droids at the same time.]

[ Pointed pause. ]

Anyway.

I know where-- when you come from, there are certain things that are true. It hasn't happened to me yet. From my perspective, your mother hasn't even been born yet. [ Or hell, thought of ]

But you're right. I'm a Jedi but I'm a husband and I suppose [ A reluctant sigh ] later, I'll be a father and a grandfather. Those will always be before my status as a Jedi.

[There's something Jaina hadn't really thought about, herself. Her head tilts, curious.]

Does one really have to come before another? Uncle Luke is training me in the Force, but that doesn't mean he stops being my uncle.

Hold that thought. Luke trains you? Not... Not Obi-Wan?

That's what I said. I think it's been years since Obi-wan visited Uncle Luke.

[Because even Obi-wan's ghost is done with all this, but she doesn't know the specifics of it.]

Oh, you're absolutely right, Ahsoka. I should be happy about this; the children I never thought about having or the grandchildren I didn't even know I would have. I don't have to worry about the diapers [ well, that's probably pretty nice ] or teaching them anything or knowing them at all. They just come full grown. Almost like a clone. Perfect.
