[A woman in green looks down at the camera, red curls spilling over her face as she inspects it with a gentle, if somewhat unamused look in her eye. She got the briefing it seems, and she's not happy but shouting is only giving her captors what they want. Silent for a few moments, her head quirks to one side a fraction, a bit like a bird studying the ground.

Seeming to come to a conclusion, she nods to herself and finally speaks. Her tone is formal and polite, though there is an undercurrent of uncertainty. Would she be speaking to nobody?]

I understand I'm to be residing aboard this...fleet...and that these communication devices are how we connect with one another. And that means introductions.

[A breath as she seems to compose herself, pushing hair out of her eyes and smiling genially. Her moment of weakness and uncertainty was done.]

My name is Nomi Sunrider, currently of Coruscant. I believe I have an understanding of the basics of what happened, though I would appreciate information that our hosts have not provided. I'd also like to know more about you, whomever might be listening to this. There's little point in being whisked away to another...reality...[She grimaces around the words.] and not at least learning from the experience. [Best to be diplomatic, right?] A name, a favored story, anything. It'd be more worthwhile and significantly less maddening than this horrible canned music.

[Her eyes close, head swiveling slightly to the left as something catches her attention.]

And I feel a handful of individuals strong in the Force present here. I would appreciate it if you would contact me. [A deep, deep frown.] And tell me, why do I sense my daughter's presence?

[Jaina is slow to open up a response. Nomi Sunrider. This is what the hero from Tionne's tales is like? It was inspiration from Nomi's legend that helped Jaina get over the fear of wielding a Jedi's deadly weapon. Can't exactly tell her that, though can she? Even Jaina understands you don't just tell a woman the story of a husband's death and subsequent trials helped you grow and face your own difficulties.]

This is Jaina Solo. [A moment's hesitation, and she decides to try providing at least some reference.] A young jedi knight.

Lowie's a better programmer than I am, but maybe we could take a look at slicing into the database. Think we can get hold of a little Bith cantina music?

[Nomi listens to the girl in placid silence, happy to just let her speak, sizing her up by her words. Young Jedi Knight. Reaching out with the Force, she felt around in the vastness, attempting to locate the speaker. Not a clean, easy method, but she thinks she manages it. Perhaps Jaina will feel a presence brush up near hers, if she's really looking.]

A pleasure, Jaina. I'm glad to meet you. Even if it isn't under the ideal circumstances. [Her face breaks into a warm smile.] And I think that might be nice. Certainly would be an improvement over this.

May I ask when you're from? Since I gather time is somewhat...odd...here.

Glad to meet you, too.

[Nomi's smile proves infectious, especially as Jaina feels a something like a brush in the Force. It's nowhere as good as the connection she feels with her twin, but a grand master of the Jedi is bound to be much better at finding someone than Jaina is.]

Odd is one way to put it. It's been about twenty years since the New Republic was founded. I'm starting to think there's a few more people I haven't run into yet, but for now I think I'm the furthest ahead.

[All Jaina really needs to do is reach, Nomi's there, bright as a star. Still, the touch is fleeting, her focus shifting to the conversation now.]

New Republic? As opposed to the old one. Which ended, when, exactly? Sorry, I'm trying to get my temporal bearings as well as catch up on apparently...several thousand years of history.

[It's no surprise that someone straight out of a legend feels so bright -- but Jaina's quickly distracted with details, trying to come up with a good answer to that question.

The challenge there is time is an agreed-upon measurement, and when you're dealing with an entire galaxy, there are different opinions on what starting point to go by, and so on. And then Jaina has to consider it against history lessons she wasn't always interested in -- when she was small, she was more interested in when she'd get to go reprogram holographic zoo animals with Zekk than the details of a Naboo trade dispute a few generations ago.]

It's year 59:3 with the Great Resynchronization. Which is still a bit after your time.

[Um. Well, Nomi's 'currently of Coruscant.']

The Coruscant Standard Calendar's current era would be marked against the Battle of Yavin. If you go by that, it's 24 ABY. The New Republic was founded 4 ABY. I think the Republic reformed into the Galactic Empire in 20 BBY.

But I might be off.

[Nomi shakes her head, having no real clue what the Great ReSynchronization is, but she has a guess that it's...probably in line with the timeframe Hera gave her a little while ago.]

Being a little off is fine, there's at least four thousand years separating us.

[She gives her own date, which...with conversions, is 3996 BBY]

That makes you...born several years after the Republic was reformed, from this Empire, yes?

[A nod -- Jaina knows Nomi is from a long, long time ago. She just never knew exactly how long.]

Right now there's mostly the New Republic and then the Imperial Remnant, and they don't move against us very often anymore. Unless they pick a fight, it's mostly peaceful right now.

I take it the Jedi sided with the New Republic. Or rather, what's left of them?

[Difficult thing to think about.]

There were survivors, were there not?

It was mostly Uncle Luke, but he was able to find a couple people who'd gone into hiding. We have an academy on Yavin IV now for people who want to try learning, too.

On Yavin IV?!

[A note of astonishment enters her voice, genuine astonishment.]

How? That planet was reduced to ash six months ago...

[Jaina's also surprised, considering the massive jungles that have overgrown most of the structures on the moon that predated any modern occupiers.]

Must have missed a spot. You'd have a hard time walking five meters without tripping over a vine now.

[seaoflight]

It regrew then.

[A sigh of relief, and she bows her head.]

I was worried I'd done something irreparable. We...the Jedi of my time...did something there that had never been done before. It worked a little too well, and the jungle was set ablaze. The whole world was infested with the Dark Side, tainted by Sith Alchemy from Naga Sadow and Exar Kun...and we had no idea how deep the rot ran.

[Deep, it turned out.]

I guess that explains what happened to the Massassi. There's a few oddities around that turn up from time to time, too.

[She remembers, vaguely, when she was little and she and Jacen had to stay up to keep Exar Kun's shadow from their uncle's body. Even little Anakin finds some trouble when he wanders.]

Such as? I'm curious now, if you don't mind indulging me.

[Give her something to think about that isn't this music :c]

[The TIE she salvaged doesn't sound like the story to tell, here. She taps a finger to her chin and tries to pick a story.]

My brother, Jacen, has an affinity for animals. Uncle Luke set up the academy in a great temple on the moon, and it's a pretty short walk from there into the jungle. So he's always finding some new animal, and he'd like to keep it for a pet. So I have to keep building things so they don't go eating each other or anything like that.

Of course he finds several crystal snakes out there. They never seem to stay where they're supposed to, so we keep having to go track them down.

Sometimes, they're in other student's rooms.

[Hells. That's hopefully not what she's thinking. She'd only seen them on scanners but...she's not going to interrupt Jaina's story just for that. That does actually sound pretty amusing.]

Oh...dear. I take it that your uncle wouldn't approve?

[two_jedi_sticks]

They're a nuisance, really. Trust my brother to be the one to like them.

Uncle Luke doesn't mind us keeping things in our rooms. It's just that the snakes won't stay in his room, and they put you to sleep when they bite you. One time, a snake curled up with the student after it put him to sleep.

[A shrug.]

He was warm. But then if he wakes up and moves, he'll startle the snake, get bitten, and fall asleep again. I was starting to think he'd be stuck sleeping through the day's lessons.

Isn't that dangerous, Jaina?

[It sounds dangerous. Poisonous snakes that put people to sleep? Certainly not the most unusual thing, but still...]

I mean, it sounds like poison.

[two_jedi_sticks]

[Huh. She hadn't thought about that.]

It's a non-lethal venom. I suppose it could be a problem if they were bigger, and their bites delivered more venom.

[seaoflight]

Alright. Just...that sounds like something my daughter would do, and a mother does worry, even about a young Jedi.

[And Vima had...strange...tastes in animal companions.]

That's Vima, isn't it? I hadn't heard anything about her and animals -- not yet, anyway.

We don't have that many records left. But it's probably just a matter of time.

That is, yes. She's...ah...about your age. And with a few intervening millennia I'm not surprised.

I'd hate to see what she and my brother would try bringing home if they teamed up.

[She'd 'hate' it. Nah, it's pretty clear she would be amused.]

Oh, I'm sure we'd find it all terribly funny up until it fully grew and started chasing apprentices and masters alike.

[Oh, she'd probably laugh a little too, until something bad happened.]

That's usually where I end up coming in and doing some damage control. There's nothing quite like rontos knocking down scaffoldings to spice up a work day.
