The Way to a Blue Fish's Heart...

[It had been a rough month for a lot of the Blue Fish crew. From blenders to family members and lost friends and blocked credits, they'd been soldiering on through a lot. And while Jilly was new enough to have skirted by most of the drama, she was keenly aware of the underlying stress of her crewmates. She wants to help.

Sometimes, though, words aren't enough...and so she sets about taking advantage of her augment to the best of her ability. For the past month she's been collecting recipes from the datary and experimenting with the supplies provided by the Atroma. And, in the days leading up to the 7th, she quietly recruits Beverly for a pair of extra hands with some Station grocery shopping and behind-the-scenes planning.

It's not announced, but on such a small ship it's hard to miss that something is going on that day. Forgoing her usual trip to the Station for job hunting and people watching, Jilly gets up extra early and sets the kitchen in motion. Recipes are taped up on the cabinets, ingredients are gathered, and so begins a marathon of food.]

[Between the combined forces of Jilly and Beverly, the two "cooks" for the Blue Fish will be setting out food all day as a bit of a much needed holiday for their crew (and any visitors who stop by). Volunteer as a taste-tester, grab food on the run, help clean dishes between baking bouts, or simply sit and relax with your crew mates. Food therapy is a go.]

[Of course Sokka is here, and honestly good luck getting him five feet away from the food. He can be found moving from plat to plate, sampling everything and making happy noises as he does his best to shove as much as his gullet down his face as he can before he gets full.

(Spoilers, he never gets full)

Still, if you want to talk to your valiant captain, he might share a word or two between gulping down food. ]

[Competition for food is real on this ship. Or at least, that's what he'll perceive at as. And Allen knows better than to try to use force to get Sokka out of the way of some of the food he wants (Beverly and Jilly would get mad and kick them out).]

[So instead? When Sokka's hovering over what must be his fifth plate he's sampled, Timcanpy swoops down and grabs the edge of the plate with his teeth- lifting it up so he can try to fly it back to Allen whose hanging back]

Aha! Go Tim!

[HIS FOOD!!! HIS PRECIOUS, LIFE-GIVING FOOD!!!! Sokka watches Tim flying away with his plate, his face the sheer picture of heartbreak.]

Noooooooo my pies.

[He points at his eyes, then at Allen. WAR FACE. ]

Oh, it is on.

[He'll just hurl his boomerang at the plate because that's the mature, level-headed thing to do in this situation. ]

[The trusty boomerang slams into Tim, halfway between Allen and Sokka. The surprise and force of it is enough to make him throw the pies up in the air as he falls.]

Tim!

[Except now the pies are going up and up. It's only seconds before they come crashing to the ground. Allen seems to be diving for them, for he will not let his friend's suffering go down in vain. WHAT DO SOKKA?!]

[Sokka catches the boomerang on its return arc, before making his own dive for the precious pies. ]

Those aren't yours, Walker!

I don't see your name on them!!

[Trying to jump up to try to catch them!! Dammit Sokka why did you get taller?!]

[Because the universe LIKES him!!!! He uses his longer arms to grab one. HAH SUCK IT.]

Yours aren't on them either!!!

_{[ He's just visiting on this ship, sure, but he's going to partake of the spread while he can - and because he was told he could. He wasn't uncouth! But as with any buffet, there comes a time when there is that one. last. piece. He reaches for it, bumping Sokka's fingers and looks up at the younger man. ]}

I don't suppose sharing's a possibility?

_{[ It is meat, Sokka. This takes consideration. ]}

[Sokka tenses, his fingers twitching. He's already eaten half his weight in meat. He really, really doesn't need that other piece. He can be a good person and let it go. Or, he can be a spiteful, possessive meat monster.

He stands there, staring at the meat for a moment, before deciding which he wants to be. ]

Nope!

[Snatching the meat up and into his mouth it goes. ]

_{[ He's just going to give you a very unimpressed look, Sokka, very unimpressed. ]}

_{[ He slides around him and goes to one of the other meat bearing trays and takes a slice of what was left there instead. ]}

Are you one of the Blue Fish crew?

[Sokka keeps on chewing away. Cry him a river, dude. ]

Yeah. I'm the captain.

_{[ There might have been a snort of incrudelity at that statement. ]}

You seem a little young to be the captain.

_{[ Says the youngest Star Fleet Captain ever. Hello pot, he is kettle. ]}

[Wow, rude. Sokka pauses in his eating to look Kirk up and down.]

I'm twenty. In my tribe, you're a man at sixteen.

...Plus I've been here for a year and you don't age unless you go home for a while so.

You're going to make yourself sick.

[ katara speaks very pointedly, but fun fact: her plate is piled nearly as high as his. ]

[Sokka turns to look at his sister, mouth full. Then he speaks, mouth still full. ]

Not me, I've been training for this day.

[kyasdaughter]

Oh, gross. [ she's flinging her hand up, as if shielding her eyes from the mouth full of mostly-chewed food. ] Now you're being disgusting on purpose.

[He'll at least swallow the food now. ]

I am not. Just because you're taking little girly bites.

[kyasdaughter]

There's nothing wrong with eating like a human being, Sokka. And I meant the way you were talking with your mouth full.

[ she huffs a little bit, moving to stand beside him and bumping his arm with hers. her voice drops slightly - quieter, a little more serious but still pleasant. ]

How're you doing, anyway?

I AM eating like a human being. A hungry one.

[He is not even hungry, that's a lie. Still when she drops her voice, he smiles a little. ]

Little better now the dust has settled. Still worried about Azula. And now we got this Greyjoy clown who the Starks really don't like.

[He shrugs. It's getting harder to protect everyone, to prepare for every eventuality. He's not one to admit these things to the crew at large, but Katara is different. He never has to hide anything from her.]

I just hope neither of them try anything.

[ Sasuke literally doesn't even say a word when he passes by Sokka on his way through the ship. Honestly, he doesn't know who he is, but there is something so utterly gripping about watching someone consume food with such... alacrity... that it stops him in his tracks and causes him to stare.

[Sokka knows what Sasuke looks like. Mostly because he makes a point of noting any faces that appear on his ship a lot. Seen as Sasuke pretty much lives in Zuko's personnel room (what is up with THAT he doesn't want to know) it's a face he knows well, even if he doesn't know Sasuke himself.

He pauses in his guzzling to stare right back. ]

Yeah?

You're going to make yourself ill like that.

[ Seriously... why... is he even tasting it? ]

[Takes another giant mouthful. Suck it, Sasuke. ]
