The Way to a Blue Fish's Heart...
Who: Blue Fish crew and visitors
Broadcast: Maybe some accidental, but not overall
Action: The Blue Fish kitchen
When: All Day, Feb. 7
[It had been a rough month for a lot of the Blue Fish crew. From blenders to family members and lost friends and blocked credits, they'd been soldiering on through a lot. And while Jilly was new enough to have skirted by most of the drama, she was keenly aware of the underlying stress of her crewmates. She wants to help.
Sometimes, though, words aren't enough...and so she sets about taking advantage of her augment to the best of her ability. For the past month she's been collecting recipes from the datary and experimenting with the supplies provided by the Atroma. And, in the days leading up to the 7th, she quietly recruits Beverly for a pair of extra hands with some Station grocery shopping and behind-the-scenes planning.
It's not announced, but on such a small ship it's hard to miss that something is going on that day. Forgoing her usual trip to the Station for job hunting and people watching, Jilly gets up extra early and sets the kitchen in motion. Recipes are taped up on the cabinets, ingredients are gathered, and so begins a marathon of food.]

[Between the combined forces of Jilly and Beverly, the two "cooks" for the Blue Fish will be setting out food all day as a bit of a much needed holiday for their crew (and any visitors who stop by). Volunteer as a taste-tester, grab food on the run, help clean dishes between baking bouts, or simply sit and relax with your crew mates. Food therapy is a go.]

I don't suppose sharing's a possibility?
[ It is meat, Sokka. This takes consideration. ]
no subject
He stands there, staring at the meat for a moment, before deciding which he wants to be. ]
Nope!
[Snatching the meat up and into his mouth it goes. ]
no subject
Charming.
[ He slides around him and goes to one of the other meat bearing trays and takes a slice of what was left there instead. ]
Are you one of the Blue Fish crew?
no subject
Yeah. I'm the captain.
no subject
[ There might have been a snort of incrudelity at that statement. ]
You seem a little young to be the captain.
[ Says the youngest Star Fleet Captain ever. Hello pot, he is kettle. ]
no subject
I'm twenty. In my tribe, you're a man at sixteen.
...Plus I've been here for a year and you don't age unless you go home for a while so.
no subject
[ Well that was certainly news that has not come up in his many other briefings from other people. He frowns, tapping his fork at his plate as he wonders how that particular miracle is accomplished and not liking any of the answers he came think of. ]
That has to make birthdays interesting, especially for some of the younger people I've talked to.
no subject
[He points his own fork over to wherever Allen is sitting. Looking not a day over sixteen.]
Allen there? He was in another place; like this, but different for years. He's actually twenty four.
no subject
[ He looked to Allen and made a "huh" sound. So, no one might be quite what they seemed. He'd have to be more careful in his age approximations, though he was right in guessing both men were younger than himself. ]
It makes a sort of twisted sense. They'd want their long term "stars" to hold on to their physical appeal for the "audience".
[ He's still not sold on this reality show thing. ]
no subject
But other than that, nope. I don't even want to guess why.
no subject
[ You'll have to excuse him, Sokka, has he shivers almost violently at the thought of that story. He didn't like that his brain had already been operated on, now there was a tale of being cryogenically frozen and memories messed with or implanted and forced again... Christ, this wasn't a reality show, it was a horror show! ]
I think I might need to go visit the Iskaulit and the fabled bars I've heard about....
[ Seriously, a man needs a drink after being told that kind of shit, Sokka. ]
I feel like I should be buying you a couple too.
no subject
I'm fine. It's really not worth the lecture my sister will give me.
no subject
Is she here?
[ He wasn't sure if he should say if that was a good thing or not, but he would like to think it would be. It would have been nice to have friends here from his own ship, after all. ]
I would say I could make sure you wouldn't do something foolish while we drank, but then I would ruin my own reputation.
[ He chuckled and took a few bites of his meal. He wasn't actually that bad, though not that long ago he had a penchant for starting bar fights - and usually coming out on the bloodied end. He'd made such a good first impression on Pike that way. ]
no subject
[It's absolutely a good thing, he loves Katara a great deal, and as much of a pain in the ass as she is, he's so glad to have her with him here. ]
Hey, I don't blame you. Got to keep your bad rep going, right? Keep the aura going.
[Sokka you are not a badass, don't talk about it like you have experience here. Stop it. ]
no subject
It must be nice, having your family so close.
[ He missed his own, but he was always glad to hear that the kidnapped people here had someone else from their world by their side. ]
I'm not sure what I would do if I suddenly got reputation as being utterly respectable all the time.
[ Kirk, you really should strive for that as a Captain and not as a playboy and unorthodox rebel. ]
no subject
It would be a tragedy is what it'd be. People would think "wow, we can sure rely on that guy, let's ask him to do everything and bring all our problems to him."
[So basically his life right now. ]
no subject
[ He laughed softly and made the 'zipped lips' motion with his fingers. Your secret is safe with him, Sokka. ]
Hmm, there is that, but it's not so bad. I mean, it means people trust you, doesn't it? They can count on you. Sure, it doesn't mean that they should come to for everything, but as Captains we sort of did sign up for that part of the job.
[ He gave a helpless little shrug and bit into one of his little meat items, savoring the juices. ]
I think I would be worried if they didn't - means my reputation went a little to far south.
no subject
We sure did. That's why our ship has more security. I put that in recently. There was...an issue. Still, I really like the job. Wouldn't change it for anything.
[He loves his crew and will defend them to the death. ]
Uh oh. How far south are we talking here?
no subject
Issue? What kind?
[ And should he be bringing it up to his own Captain? Or better yet, taking over his own ship and doing it right? Wait, no, he did that once, he really shouldn't start a trend or make a habit of it. This crew might not take it so well. ]
South enough I wouldn't be keeping my job, which would be a shame since I love what I do. Not many careers out there that let you explore space for a living.
no subject
[Varric probably wouldn't appreciate an attempted mutiny anyway. ]
No, you got a point there. Well, sorry man, that sounds like it sucks a lot.
no subject
[ He cocks his head at him, arching a brow and then chuckles. ]
Not an old girlfriend is she?
[ No, probably not. He technically already did that once too, and once was enough. He nearly got choked to death for his efforts anyways. Not precisely graceful, and it had never sat all the way right with him besides. He had to make some low blows... ]
no subject
Oh HELL, no! It's my friend's sister! Nooo. No way, no how.
no subject
[ The look itself is worth a small laugh, because really, what a look. But he understood, Sokka. Rules of man friendship and all. ]
So why is it awkward having her around? Unless you two don't get along for some reason?
[ He would think you'd be welcoming anyone from your home world, but he can think of a couple he could do without seeing ever again... ]
no subject
[He exhales. ]
Look, the less people on the Blue Fish who know about her the better. But yeah. She's not good news.
no subject
Not good news, got it.
[ He takes a few contemplative bites of food. ]
Anyone else I should keep an eye out for besides your friend's sister?
[ Whom he didn't have a name for, but sure, it'll be totally obvious. ]
