[Aww everyone look at this cute hippie girl with her sweet southern drawl not having a mental breakdown like the last time most of you would have seen her. She's also got a more festive get up on: a shiny gold bodice fits over her flowing black dress, bright purple and green scarves drape around her shoulders, and a jaunty top hat sits on her head. Grinning from ear to ear, she addresses the fleet:]

Hey y'all this is Misty! I don't know how much or what folks here know about Earth holidays and all that, but today's a big one where I come from: Mardi Gras. It's like... this big feast day right before a period of fastin' in preparation for Easter. It won't be the same without the parades and the costumes and the food - ain't got no gumbo in space apparently - but I found this sweet club called that plays some pretty good jazz and I sure would appreciate some company if y'all are interested in a little fun!

[After giving the location of the club and what time she'll meet you there, she picks up a glass full of what looks like beer and tilts it in the direction of her audience.]

It's so fast, though. [Legit the music she's heard at home is much slower.] Perhaps if you show me...?

[Misty nods eagerly and moves out onto the dance floor. She's had absolutely zero dance lessons ~~you'll have to go to Beverly for that~~ but she's been around music her whole life: zydeco, blues, jazz, rock, it's all permeated her very existence. So while she'd appear horribly untrained and uncouth to a professional, she moves with a certain natural grace and joy as her feet move in a fast-paced pattern reminiscent of the jitterbug. And of course, she can't help but add a few twirls here and there.]

That's dancing? This is how people dance in the future? ~~Kids these days~~ yeah she's just sort of standing there being jostled on the edge of the dance floor. There's definitely a grace and rhythm to it, but uh. Wow.

Does she have to do that.]

Misty holds out her hands to Makie.]

C'mon, it'll be fun, I promise!

Makie takes one final glance around the floor dubiously at other dancers before joining Misty in the middle of them, which completely fails to turn her into a suddenly fantastic dancer. She's just standing like an idiot in the middle of the floor instead of the edge. But she's game!]

All right. I'll try.

That's the spirit!

[Misty takes Makie by the hand and just sort of... starts gently guiding her around the floor, moving more slowly than before at the very least.]

[S-so absolutely awkward. She watches Misty for a moment before she looks at others. It's not that it's terribly hard to pick up, just so far alien to what she would call dancing it takes her aback.

Still, after a few moments she does make an effort, matching Misty's movements if a little stiffly. She supposes she'd get used to it after a while. It's ridiculous to think that dancing would remain the same even if she wasn't in the middle of a universal melting pot anyway.]

This is so strange...

[Misty laughs.]

That's what makes it so great! You're just thinkin' too much!

[B-but Misty Makie's whole thing is thinking too much it's why she never gets anything done--]

I'm not sure I could think less if I tried.

[Misty grins.]You're too smart for your own good, that's the problem.

So I have been told. [In far less complimentary ways. Her tone is dryly amused.] Perhaps this requires drinking first.

[She laughs.]

Maybe. Let's get you a drink then. Don't think they got Hurricanes, but I'm sure we can find something good.

[Her eyebrows lift a little, but Makie happily follows Misty off the dance floor.] Dare I ask what a Hurricane is?

It's a drink from New Orleans, the city I'm from - got lots of rum and passion fruit and lemon. [She grins.] It'll really knock you on your ass if you don't watch it.

Hmm. I have to confess I haven't given much thought to alcohol in some time. [Not with being ill.] You choose. I'll trust your judgment.

[Grin.] You sure that's a good idea?

[She grins a little to show she gets the joke. But serious answer:] I'm sure you'll steer me to something that tastes decent. None of this looks familiar to me at all.

[She'd rather not pick up swill by mistake.]

Well, what's your favorite kind of fruit? That'll give me a good idea where to start.

Ah...

[That. Is a good question. From the vaguely perplexed look on her face, it's probably clear Makie has absolutely no clue.]

I'm not... apple? Grapes? [She doesn't have a favourite anything.] I don't mind either of those.

That we can work with, real easy. Won't be but a minute!

[After disappearing into the crowd, Misty returns shortly with two drinks in hand: a golden liquid in a bottle and a deep red-purple one in a fluted glass.]

Cider [She holds up the bottle] and wine [And the glass]. Your pick! I'll take whichever you don't want.

[To be honest, she's more attracted to the colour of the wine than anything, so after a moment of sizing them both up, Makie takes the glass, giving it an experimental sniff. This is the grape one, then.]

Thank you. Are these drinks common?

Yeah. Least where I from they are, though beer is more common than cider.

Most of my drinking experience has been with various types of tea and sake. [No reason she can't try branching out, though. She takes a small sip.]

I think it will take some getting used to, but I certainly don't mind the taste. Do you have a favourite drink?

[She shrugs.] I usually just have a beer, when I do drink. It's not that often though - special occasions mainly.

I drank to soothe my nerves on occasion. [It's a common thing when you work in a brothel, really. But she was far more sober than many.] It's nice to drink just to be sociable.
