Dear Atrama, Can we please visit a planet with beaches next? I keep meeting people who haven't seen one and that's terrible. It's actually a crime where I come from. Please don't let anyone get arrested. I believe in you. Also if you take requests can I have my cat please. And some chalk and I was meant to have a sword I think I could be wrong. It's a short silver gold magical IT'S A LIGHTSABER A RED ONE Either that or just give me Mihawks.

Oh, the Huntress! Really? I've-- I've never been on the Huntress. But I know which one it is! I'll come by very soon!

[Not as a human anyway, she's been visiting Koala as a kitten and-- she's been visiting Obi-Wan Kenobi's ship for weeks now and never knew and that's just terrible.

Oh well, at least she can make up for it now. By 'very soon' she means straight away. Hope you don't mind.]

[Katie's dressed in her usual red pinafore and a pair of chunky winter boots Rogue bought for her on the icy planet, which look ridiculous out of the snow but that doesn't seem to bother. She stops very suddenly when she sees him, then jumps another step forward, standing very straight, fidgeting fingers vanishing into her pockets.]

Not really. Nobody ever believes me when I say meet anyone. You'd think I didn't talk to strangers all the time.

[Katie looks startled.] I am? Are you sure?

[Wait no she shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, right? She brightens.] I mean-- I am! That's good, isn't it? Does that mean I can be a Padawan?

[ Hm. She's a little old and he doesn't feel confident enough to take on another Padawan learner. Not to mention that they were very far away from the Order. ]

I can make you an honourary Padawan for now.

[She promises she won't turn into a Sith lord. They look cool and she loves Darth Vader, but not as a real person. Her face brightens with a wide grin and she does her best not to bounce on her heels.]

Really? What do honorary Padawan do? Do they take honorary lessons? Do they make honorary lightsabers?

[Do they get a lightsaber. Very important!]

To some degree, certainly. It does involve a lot of commitment and you will only receive an honourary lightsaber if you follow instructions and learn your lessons.

It will not be easy, by any means.

If it was easy, it wouldn't be worth it. [She grins again fleetingly, before trying to look serious and attentive.]

I've seen squires! I know how hard they have to work, though I've never been one. Do I need to take any oaths?

Normally, yes. But not one for honourary Padawans. Holding you to that standard when I cannot provide proper lightsabers or the Jedi temple for training seems unfair.

[ He considers it thoughtfully. ]

I suppose I'll have to draft up a new oath for you.

[She has to be careful with an actual oath. But she supposes she'll see what he comes up with. It won't be more restrictive than an oath of fealty or knighthood, surely.]

Then you can let me know when you do. I suppose it won't be very ceremonious but I'm sure I'll find some way to celebrate.

It might have to. I'll need to tailor some of the exercises since you're not Temple-raised.

I suppose that depends on who you ask.

Of course not. I just needed to know because some parts of your training will need to wait until you're older.

Neither of those reasons. You simply don't have a lot of the temple skills we begin with when we were younger. Such as . . . stepping under a waterfall and not getting wet.

As such, I need to start you off with the very basics before we can proceed.

[Oh! That sounds interesting. But please excuse Katie while she screws her face up in deep thought, sorting through whether she could, in fact, actually not get wet stepping under a waterfall. Probably not. And she's pretty sure that taking an umbrella, while funny, might get her a lot of stern looks. Oh well.

I suppose we can find out if we ever find any waterfalls! But that makes sense. The very basics it is, then. I'm good at very basics. I can be patient.

I don't think we'll start there. As I said, I'll need to tailor the activities according to your skill level.

[ He's hardly going to dump her in front of a waterfall and expect miracles. In a way, Obi-Wan is a born teacher. He knows how to adapt to situations. Anakin and Ahsoka have taught him much. ]

[Yeah, she knows they're not starting with the waterfall. For which she's relieved, because she's not sure what the actual reaction would be if she tried.]

So you need to find out what I'm good at first, is that it? [She phrases a lot of questions that don't really need to be questions. It's a way of getting around her geas.] Do I need to sit a test?

You might.

[ He'll have to figure out how their normal tests will work on her. ] But it's nothing too strenuous. You're already connected to the Force. I'll just need to know how strong it is.

[She wonders if she really is connected. It could be her connection to the Dreaming he's sensing. Maybe it translates to the same thing. Either way, there's no way she's passing this up.]

Then I'll do whatever tests you need, once you work out what they are.
