Dear Atrama, Can we please visit a planet with beaches next? I keep meeting people who haven't seen one and that's terrible. It's actually a crime where I come from. Please don't let anyone get arrested. I believe in you. Also if you take requests can I have my cat please. And some chalk and I was meant to have a sword I think I could be wrong. It's a short silver gold magical IT'S A LIGHTSABER A RED ONE Either that or just give me Mihawks.

A clanky knight?

[ He chuckles lightly, then explains. ]

We call some droids clankers or tinnies where I'm from. It sounds like you're a droid knight. Did you train with swords as well?

Oh! Well, being a droid knight sounds like fun, but I think I'm not made of the right stuff. Knights in our worlds wear armour that clanks! And they ride horses and save damsels, that kind of thing. Or at least they did. [Probably.]

I've trained a little! I don't know if I was any good.

That's... [ He thinks about it for a second. ] ... almost exactly what Jedi do. You just replace the horses with starfighters and damsels with not-damsels.

Only one way to find out. Let me know when you can and we'll have our own training session.

[Oh my god, TRAINING WITH DARTH VADER. Or-- well no. Anakin's entirely different. But she still likes the sound of it. (Sorry, Anakin.)

I thought they sounded similar! Though I don't think mine use the Force or any magic or anything.

I need to find my sword! I lost it. [Well-- this one isn't her fault. The Atroma took it.] But once I find it again, we can train!

[ The Force as magic, now there's a familiar comparison. And honestly, some Jedi are magicians, from a certain perspective. ]

Funny, I lost mine too. But as my old dueling master used to say, you are the weapon, the tool you use is only as effective as you make it.

And I doubt Atroma is willing to let anyone have anything remotely dangerous on them.

It's very strange that they pack our ships full of guns, then. [They won't let a child have a sharp blade but laser guns are hers for the taking, aw yeah.] Maybe they think we'll panic and attack each other when we first arrive.

I could get another, I suppose. It's not quite the same as making it yourself.

I've heard some of the crew say they've gotten away with knives. But actual swords might be a more difficult to get away with. Nevermind a lightsaber.

Did you make your own sword, back home?

Every knight has to make their own sword! [A roundabout way of saying yes. It's also not true, but Tully was a blacksmith and knew her too well not to suggest it.] That way they have a lot of respect for their weapon and try not to lose it all the time.

[ He laughs. ] That's right, they should!

And it's true you have to respect your weapon, but you're not always going to be lucky enough to keep it with you. It's not a bad idea to learn to duel with another weapon so you're never caught off guard when you do lose it.

Oh, that's true!

I should definitely learn how to use a lightsaber, then.

[It's the most innocent of remarks. Really.]

[ He gets caught up in her confidence and nods in agreement. ]

You definitely should. It feels different from a normal sword, you know.

Is it lighter? It looks like it would be lighter. And hot!

It can cut through durasteel so you have to be careful. Most padawans have training sabers so they don't accidentally... cut off an arm.

[ Hah. haha. ]

In my opinion, it's more balanced than any sword is.

Do you think it could cut through the side of one our ships? [She isn't sure what durasteel is, but it sounds hella strong.]

It really depends on how thick the hull is.

[ And before she gets any ideas... ]

But I ...wouldn't try that.

And here I was about to run off and kill everyone on board.

[She's ultra curious but she knows what happens if a spaceship gets a hole in it. Movies are great for that kinda thing.]

Hey, might make good ratings. If you're lucky, they'll send you home right before your air and pressure goes out.

That wouldn't be any fun. [She grins, unseen on the audio feed.] Then I'd never learn how to use a lightsaber.

[ He chuckles. ] But you'll get to go home. Wouldn't you want that?

I suppose I should eventually. But if time isn't moving, I think I should see as much of the universe as possible first!

[ Oh that's.. new ]

How do you know time, isn't moving?

Oh... [UM. Actually now that she thinks about it she's not sure. She just assumed because she knows it didn't in Adstring. On the other hand--]

Well, I'm not growing any older. [Which is meant to be a lie, but ironically Katie hasn't realised she isn't.] And people say if you go home you go right back to the point you left! Doesn't that mean time isn't moving?

[ Having only been here for a few months, he hasn't noticed anything relating to growth. But he imagines a child might be measuring their height by inches. ]

If they can take us out of time, they can put us back in the same time. I don't know if that means it isn't changing here or there, at home.

How old are you anyway, kid?

I'm nine! [Ten. At some point. She forgets.] And I suppose so-- I suppose it's better to say time isn't moving for us, then, not everyone else.

I think that sounds reasonable. [ Chuckling: ] You're a very clever nine year old, Dorothy.
