[ of course, for cress, the first few hours after waking up (after the initial oh my gosh what is happening where am i is this real life) had been spent poking around the curious little communicator they'd all been given. the type isn't something she's familiar with, but it's neither too archaic nor too advanced. it's strangely familiar enough that it doesn't take her very long to figure it out, inner workings and all, though it's tough to say how much of that is her natural skill and how much of that is thanks to the handy little communications augment currently nestled behind her left ear.

the point is that she'd snooped, which means she may or may not have heard all of your previous conversations. oops!

but anyway. sometime after that, cress will finally turn on the video function of her comm. she holds it at arm's length as she aimlessly wanders around the deck of marsiva, so her background may actually be quite familiar to most. she makes quite the sight — long, unruly mess of blond hair, large blue eyes, and a dress that is a touch too small with a few singe marks here and there. when she finally addresses the network, her eyes are wide wonder. ]

What did she mean "the worlds are watching"...?

[ she's never quite heard someone say her name like that before, and it sends a little shiver down her spine. she isn't sure, though, if she likes it or not. ]

What are we supposed to do? Just — carry on like normal?

[ if any of this can even be counted as normal... ]

No one's told us to do otherwise... I suppose you could also carry on abnormally, and no one would throw a fit...

[he shrugs a little...]

[ she laughs suddenly, a tiny girlish giggle that she hides behind a hand.

because that was a joke, right? he'd told a joke? it was funny! ]

[wow, giggling like that... what a cutie. he can't help smiling back again.]

[ the giggle suddenly cuts off into a sharp squeak, her eyes wide and suddenly uncertain. her hand is still over her mouth, but she's glancing around now like she isn't entirely sure she should bring it down. ]

I — well I thought so but. Is it not?

[ oh no. did she do it wrong... ]

Ha-- [he's got such a strange laugh! it sounds a little bit wrong, like he hasn't practiced enough. which doesn't make sense. people don't practice laughing. but it's coming from somewhere, isn't it?]

No, no, no, it's fine! I hope all of our mysterious "audience" is as receptive as you are.

So...? Where are you from, Cress?

[ the sound is strange, indeed, prompting a curious blink from cress and the unconscious canting of her head. it's not necessarily unpleasant, but odd in its difference. she thinks she'd like to hear it again, really.

when he asks her that question, though, she looks suddenly sheepish. ]

Um. Well. I don't know. I don't think I'm really from anywhere... [ she seems to struggle with words for a second, before finally letting out a sigh that deflates her. ] It's complicated.

Where are you from?

Complicated, huh...?

[he appears to think about that for a moment--how can someone not be from anywhere? even monsters and demigods are from somewhere. but he doesn't want to overwhelm her. being kidnapped onto a new ship is scary. she seems kind of... easy to overload.

so heck, he'll share. sure.]

Well, I'm from a world that no one's heard of, where most of the population lives underground and wages eternal war against monsters and bad politics. [a small sigh...] Kind of. It's also complicated.

[ she offers him a small, but sympathetic smile. man, does she know all about "complicated." ]

Which side are you on?

[he laughs again--] My side, of course. I try not to get too involved in all of that anymore, to be honest. And with hopping from world to world... It hasn't come up much.

All over the place. I've been world-hopping lately, but not by choice.

[he rests his chin on his hand...] Is this your first time somewhere new? Brought like this, I mean.

[ not by choice...? ]

...no, actually. Before this, I was somewhere else. Somewhere like — like Earth. [ she says the name like it were something reverent to her, a dream she's always had. ] But it wasn't. Not really. And I wasn't there for very long.

[ she glances around. ]

This is a little more familiar to home.

[ "home." ]

Earth sure shows up a lot in people's travels. Why do you think it's so popular...?

[ oh man. it's like he just opened a can of worms, evident in the way her eyes just widen and brighten up. ]

Because it's so fascinating! Its history, its development, and — and have you seen their art? Their music, their paintings, their netdramas...!

[he laughs again, light, and leans on his arm to listen...]

I've barely gotten a chance to look! Is it really that great?

It's amazing... [ cue long, wistful sigh. ] I've always wondered what it would be like to visit. [ heck, to live there... ]

Haha, maybe we will. You never know where these things are going to take us...

[he pauses...] Maybe literally, since they haven't really told us anything.
