Log 002 | Video + Action - Can't Kick Those Old Habits
Who: Jim Kirk & Anyone
Broadcast: Yes, fleet-wide
Action: On the space station
When: Feb. 14 (or any other day you want to work out for the action)
[ Video ]
Okay, so I think I have the money situation figured out here.
We get money by being popular on this "show" and being "ranked" -
[ Can everyone hear his continued disbelief of this load of crap they are being fed, but fine he's playing along for the time being. ]
But we can also get it on the station by offering to do work. Am I right? Which, by the way, just seems like it's adding insult to injury.
So aside from my making a cardboard sign and tacking it up in the space station, I'll set it out here too - I'm generally good with technology and fixing things in general, so if you ever need anything fixed I'm more than happy to get whatever it is you need running again for a fair price.
And if anyone has a recommendation on someplace to get good, cheap clothes on this station, I'd appreciate it. And real food.
[ He can only live so long between his uniform and the gray jumpsuit and replicated food items. That buffet on the Blue Fish ruined him to early. There are limits. ]
[ Action ]
[ As he said, he made his way down to the space station to see if he can drum up some business and start earning some cash. He hates being a free loader or being put on charity - he just hates being non-useful in general and he's terrible at sitting around and doing nothing. Besides, job hunting might also come with info hunting, so it's two birds with one stone in a sense. So off to find a job and some food that hasn't been replicated. It never tasted the same, no matter how much the product might say otherwise.
One really should not be surprised to see him chatting someone up, male, female, green, tailed, scaled ,or otherwise. It might be equally common for him to be getting slapped, and there's about a 65% chance of catching him in the midst of a bar fight if you find him later in the evening, or leaving in the company of someone. He did mention he had a reputation to keep up, and everyone needed some outlet for dealing with their situation. This was his.
He will try not to look to chagrinned making his way back to the ships come the morning though... ]
[ ooc: feel free to hit him up anywhere on the station as he will literally be going around every inch of it. And by all means, be the one being hit on, or just interrupt his night/morning because he's made poor life choices somewhere along the way! ]

action;
His smile made her want to smile. She picks up one of the fruits that were similar to the one he had selected, giving her something to do at least to swallow down the sudden nerves. She had been nervous meeting her crew as well, but she hadn't been afraid. She wasn't afraid now. It had been the unknown before that which had frightened her. Things were still being taught to her but she felt as if she was more on even ground again.]
Thank you. I'm glad we could finally meet properly.
[Casually, she lightly brings the apple from one hand to the other, staring up at Kirk with a warm smile.]
Are you shopping? Or still looking for work?
[She'd heard his video on the fleet's network system but hadn't expected to find him here in the flesh. ]
Re: action;
[ He watches her, waiting for her to speak and not rushing. As it is, he takes a moment to bite into his fruit, the taste making his eyebrows scrunch for a moment. Like biting into a sour candy, but there was that underlying tartness that smoothed it out and made it rather delicious once you had swallowed. ]
A little of both. A few of the locals haven taken me up on my offer, so I'm not entire destitute anymore. I'm sure I have more than enough to treat a lovely queen to a drink, if she would like.
[ Ever the gentleman, this Kirk. ]
action;
[She pays for her own fruit, pocketing it for later in a small purse that she kept with her. She had worried how entertaining it might be to poison them, but he was still standing and that was enough to soothe her concerns. His offer was something that made her both happy and surprised.]
Do you have a merchant in mind to serve us?
[Call her old fashioned but she was picturing a wine merchant and barrels of the sweet liquid to try. They probably had a different way of doing things on the fleet. Good on her word about being assertive, she slips her arm beneath his without prompting. Your move, Kirk.]
Re: action;
I think you wouldn't have a problem getting a job modeling clothes for some of the shops. They should all be falling over you if you ask me - prettiest lady on the station.
[ Kirk, for his part, didn't worry about poisons. He had enemies, but he didn't think any of them could have possibly followed him here. After all, even he hadn't known he was coming here, so how could his enemies? Unless they had planned it, but that was a level of paranoia he had not reached and did not intend to achieve. ]
I actually saw one not to much further up earlier that looked to have a nice selection. I'm sure we can find something to suit us both there.
[ There's the briefest flicker of surprise when she slides her hand through his arm, though it's more because he had not expected it than anything. He recovered quickly and crooks his arm to provide a proper escort as he turns them to head down to the shop he had in mind. ]
How have you been, your majesty, since we last spoke?
action;
What a peculiar job that would be. Would I just stand there and wear nice clothes all day?
[Not a terrible job but so... odd. She's not bothered by the idea but it certainly sounded strange to her.]
I've been well. I've been getting to know my crew and trying to understand everything my augment has taught me. I work as the communications officer aboard the S.S. Caprine.
[Funny, considering their previous conversation about his crewmate back home.]
What about yourself? How is your new position treating you?
Re: action;
That's the gist of it. Where I'm from, men and women can make a lot of money doing that if they're particularly good at it.
[ He finds it rather strange too, having never been a fashionista or anything himself, but even in his era models were desired - though they came in quite a few different shapes and colors now. ]
Haha, do you now? It's a good field to be in.
[ There's affection there, obviously stemming from his care for his crew member he had spoken about - a sort of wistfulness to it and a longing. Not romantic, but just wanting to be home again, to be with the people he had surrounded himself with that were his new family. ]
It's an... adjustment, to say the least. But it's not bad, really. At least I like tinkering with machines and the like. You know what they say - if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life.
[ He found it rewarding, actually, which was the most he could have hoped for - better honestly. He found the new machines he came across as fascinating as the similar ones, and there was always a sense of satisfaction at a job well done. ]
action;
[Though she appreciates the sentiment behind his words. He was the carefree type, a rarity when surrounded by killers and slaves and men who wanted her to bow under the pressure or break her.]
Could you teach me? About your machines and the like.
[It would be interesting to learn. She knew enough as her augment required but beyond that it was just a bunch of little parts that made up a whole.]
Re: action;
I doubt anything that involves ruling is stress free. Just being a captain can be stressful. Ruling a kingdom of any size.. well, you have to be pretty strong to do it in the first place.
[ He smiled at her and put his hand gently over hers as they walked. ]
If you would like to, I would be happy to show you. I'll have to find something simple to start you on, but that shouldn't be to hard here.
action;
[And incredibly difficult, with everything that she's had to contend with in keeping them stable.]
That would be nice. Perhaps after we've found this place you mean to take me to?
[Because she's a bit hungry. And she wouldn't say no to him showing her around more after they eat.]
Re: action;
Leadership is hard, I've found out recently. But I think so long as you have good people around you and you believe in what it is you're doing, you'll do fine.
[ He didn't have to rule three cities and make them a kingdom - his ship was more than enough. But it was a delicate balance - four hundred plus people so close together in what amounted to a very well built sardine can - and then of course all the races they hoped to encounter. Diplomacy! ]
As it turns out, we've found it.
[ He motioned to the sweet looking cafe, moving to open the door for her as a gentleman should. It was not very crowded, which was good, and he led her over to examine the menu. ]
What would you like? I think I might go for a coffee with some cinnamon myself.
this is so grossly late because of hiatus and rl things ignore if you want to
[You know, until it came to light that Jorah had been feeding information to her enemies. That had stung and it still hurt even now.
Following him inside, Dany takes her first real look around. It was quaint, even if much of the food and drink was foreign to her.]
Coffee...? I think they have that in the kitchen aboard the Caprine. I've never tried it myself. Does having it with cinnamon make it taste better?
