So. I've heard it's February 14th. And how good of the Atroma to get me my very own monogrammed ship. Apparently it's the perfect gift for the girl who so recently had everything. [ tacky, much? kate kinda cringes every time she sees her family name on her assigned ship -- regardless of how coincidental it might be. ] Kate Bishop, reporting for duty aboard the SS Bishop. I kid you not.

Maybe he didn't survive to pick up the name. All the large cities were culled. And I never actually met Wanda, but she was the boss' daughter, so kind of hard not to know about her. [Enjoy that past tense and the inference of who her boss is.]

[It's okay. She's wrong anyway. He's totally a pilot for the Human High Council. He just didn't get that same level of fame or running in closer circles to Kitty.]

I don't know. Probably longer than I'm aware. He had to have been amassing resources for awhile. I was just a stupid kid spending all my time buried in books and dance classes and taking electronics apart and putting them back together. Things were on the news. People were scared, but I didn't pay a lot of attention until I realized I was a mutant. [And then they came for her and that part of the story is more than she wants to get into.]

Chicago fell about six years ago for the first time. It wasn't the first. It definitely wasn't the last.

Yeah. My -- uh, first foray into this kinda work? Involved a conquer-happy psychopath. It feels like those kinds are sprouting up a little too often. Not to mention that stretch of time when Osborn ran things.

They were both put down? [Which would be a very good thing even if the thought that everyone else could just deal with these monsters and they watched their world crumble isn't exactly heartening.]

Eventually. Osborn took a while to unseat because -- [ some of the attitude leaks out of her voice. like this is too serious a topic to make jokes. ] Well, because there weren't that many of us left who could -- and would -- fight out in the open. Cap and Iron Man's little playground tussle saw to that.

[ their civil war birthed the very instability that allowed norman osborn to seize power and hold onto it for so long. ]

Running once-upon-a-time villains as his own personal squads -- all registered and official. And hunting down those of use who refused to get in line.

War on the people who would stand against him. And the others? The people who aren't fighters?

Controlling them. Preaching that he knew what's best for everyone without even considering a consultation.

It's not genocide, but it's not good. [She's really not trying to one up her with genocide here. Just a final nail in the "definitely a different version of reality" coffin. Not that it really needed a final nail at this point.]

Keeping them from means of protecting themselves.

Something like that. What matters most is that it's over -- and that it's been a few years. I don't know about yours, but my world moves on quick. Break-neck into the next disaster, if it can.

Plenty of disasters, but just the one overarching theme of Apocalypse. [Just years of the same fight really.] He was so entrenched it was hard to make any headway.

Superhuman Registration Act? That doesn't sound good. No. There was a lot of needless anti-mutant hysteria and then there was a lot of understandable anti-mutant hysteria. But no laws. It didn't stay civilized long enough for that.

Captain America and Iron Man went to war over it. Basically. Left the ground really shaken up for years afterwards.

Those names are kind of familiar. [Not from home, but people mentioning them. Maybe here. Maybe the prison.] Who was supporting it?

Iron Man might as well have tabled it.
