And they keep fleeing until the Blight fades away?

[ Elize is really better off staying in Rieze Maxia, despite its problems. What keeps her shying from Thedas, no matter what darkness it holds, are the people that she knows that come from there. And she's completely bent on seeing Cullen again. ]

Well, they leave the area and settle in other areas. Sometimes they move back. Sometimes they have new lives in new areas.

I see. They start over.

And what about the other Blight, the song... [ She backtracks a bit. ] Who are the Grey Wardens? Are they the only ones that can kill the dragon?

Same Blight.

I don't think mortals hear the song... But I do. The Darkspawn do. I don't like it like they do.

Grey Wardens... The face the taint, draw blade and staff and march against the swell of darkness.

Only they can kill the Dragon. Swallow and sink, swim until they sing.

[He knows what he's saying, but he can't quite stop. Knows it doesn't make sense, won't explain it. Can't.]

[ That obviously leaves Elize looking puzzled and concerned. ]

Cole? I don't understand...

[He sighs and gives her a helpless look and shrug.]

Grey Wardens kill the Archdemon. No one else can. I don't really understand why. But they do.

Oh, you don't? Hm...

[ Her expression softens, then she simply nods her head. She can settle without a full blown explanation. ]

That's fine. Thank you for telling me about the Blight.

[ Which isn't exactly the nicest thing for her to learn about, but it makes her feel like a little grown up with him telling her something as dark as this. ]

[It was a balance between telling her some of the dark things to make her feel better, but not telling her things that will really scare her, things that are personally frightening.

No Circles. Not for Elize. And he might start talking and be able to stop and that would frighten her badly.]

It's something you'll need to know about. It's a big part of life in Thedas, even if the Blight events don't happen very often.

[ Being held in captivity is something she never wants to experience again. A Circle is a place she doesn't believe she'll ever wind up in. Cullen will protect her. Jove will protect her.

She nods her head. ]

I understand. I'll remember what you told me.

[ Like a lot of the other things he tells her. And she won't tell Cullen. She'll be careful in what she writes to her letters to him.

She moves to join him by his side, looking over some of the paints and other things that he's sorting out. ]

If you want, you can ask me some questions too.

[They will, and Cole's grateful for that. Because a Circle, to him, is a monstrous thing to most mages.]

[ She shrugs her shoulders, not having anything specific in mind. But she has been always asking him a lot of questions. ]

[He sits near her and pulls out his knife, laying out a square of paper and starting to cut it carefully. Neatly.]

It's nice being asked questions I can answer. Usually people ask me what I am, or why I'm here. Or I have to ask lots of questions, because I don't understand mortal things.

[ She also sits. She's not sure why he's cutting the paper, but she watches with curious eyes. ]

You can ask me about mortal things! Or Rieze Maxia!

[ ...Elize is volunteering eagerly like she's in some classroom, but she really isn't the best person to be asking for in-depth information. Especially when she's still trying to learn a lot for herself. ]

[He starts folding the paper over and the shape becomes apparent. He's making a pinwheel. He even uses a thin piece of wire to hold it together and make the stem.

He then holds it out to her.]

Nami showed me how to make them.

[ It's pretty, although she doesn't know what it's properly called. Other children might be surprised that she doesn't. She never had or even made anything like a pinwheel before. Yet the shape does remind her of something she has seen before in Sharilton.

She's careful as she takes the pinwheel by the stem from him. She's smiling, delighted. ]

Oh, it's... pretty. It's like a little windmill!

[Cole blows softly to make it spin.]

Nami called it a pinwheel. The policeman in her town used to wear one so he was less frightening to the children. To her.

She said you can colour the paper as well.

[ Copying him, she blows a bit of air to make it spin faster. She lets out a small giggle. It really is like a tiny windmill. ]

I can? [ The color she has in mind is obvious. ] ...You're giving this to me?

[He carefully slide the pin out.]

You colour it flat, so it doesn't get pinched or crumpled and then we can put it back together.

Oh...

[ She smiles bashfully. It's a gift she'll greatly treasure. ]

That makes sense. Can you help me color it?

If you'd like me to.

[He isn't really sure how, but he wants to join in with her.]

Of course I would.

[ She always enjoys his company. She leans over to give him a quick, fond peck on the cheek. ]

[ Then she moves to dig out all sorts of pens and markers from her desk, mainly in different shades of pink. ]

[He startles and smiles at her. He's not used to being kissed. Ever.]

Pink reminds me of kindness and love. Peach and pink and puffing plumes...

[ There's usually not much hesitation when she wants to hold hands or giving an innocent kiss on the cheek. Elize is shy, but not shy at all when it comes to showing displays of affection. ]

It reminds me of that too!

[ Well, kindness and love mostly. She's not sure what puffing plumes means. She plops her stash of markers and pens by the piece of paper, then runs her finger across a few of the materials as she tries to decide on a color. ]

I love Milla, Jude, and all my friends. I love Cullen, I love Jove... [ She can name way too many people. Ones that went away, still here, or from home. ] And I love you too!

[If there were a Fade here, Cole would try and reach through to some wisps, to show Elize what he meant about the colours, but there isn't and he can't.]

You're full of love.

[He knew that anyway. He can see it, like giant, soft feathers around her.]

[ Back then, she'd always been pining for Teepo who was nothing more than a device. She's not the same as when she first arrived or when they first met.

Her only response is a quiet, proud smile up at him. She picks out a light pink marker and begins coloring in the paper. ]
