[Wandering about the ship had become a habit at this point and she found she was learning more and more as she explored, slowly memorizing her route to the kitchen and to her station for her duties as Communications Officer. She was wearing her standard issue clothing, forgoing her usual dress. She had managed to come across fabric but it was taking a bit of time to weave it into something she could wear. For now, this would do. Just as the Dothraki had taken time to become her people, these people were also slowly growing on her. The ship was slowly growing on her. She felt as if she was settling in at last.

Anyone looking for her can find her either wandering about or stopping in the kitchen for something to eat that wasn't entirely made of the awful protein goop.]

[ Elecman is reading in the kitchen when Dany comes in; he raises his eyes from his book for a moment.

Humans seemed to need to eat all the time. He couldn't really blame them, though; if he had to eat the goop here, it'd be kind of weird, probably. Human food has all kinds of different textures and tastes.

He gets up and rummages through the pantry, looking for something. He takes out a white box and puts it on the table, pushing it over to her before getting back to his book. ]

Here. It's not gel, anyway.

[ God forbid he show he's doing something nice for people. If she chooses to open the box, it's half-full of jerky. What kind? Who knows. ]

[She looks up when he speaks, reaching towards the white box he's placed on the table. It was jerky. She could stand jerky. They ate horse meat when they needed to when traveling with the Khalesaar and they lived off other cooked meats from hunts. Jerky would do just fine.]

Thank you. I was hoping that there would be something besides the gel. Where did the crew get this?

[And could she get more? It would tide her over.]

Here's my advice, since you actually need to eat: whenever we stop off somewhere, use cash to buy food. Stockpile it until we get to the next stop.

[ He hoards it because it's useful for bargaining chips. Food is useful everywhere, especially to coax people into doing something, or as a sweetener. ]

I got it from the snow planet we stopped off on a few months back. [ He tasered a lot of monsters for that jerky. And then made jerky out of them. ] You can take more, if you want. It's not like I'm using it.

What if the food turns sour in between?

[Though she supposes the ship has the technology to deal with that, it still worries her just a bit. How do these people live?]

Thank you for your gift. Why give it to me? Aren't there others on the ship who might want this?

You store it somewhere so it doesn't go bad. Or you invest in stuff that'll keep for a long time - like things in sealed packets. Cans. That kind of thing.

[ They live with the amazing technology that can preserve food a bit longer than usual. ]

It's been in the pantry for a while. I'm sure people have taken some. [ He shrugs. ] I'll leave it out here, anyway.

I see. Well, perhaps I'll leave it for others to partake in.

[Because that would be awfully stingy if she took it for herself.]

[When Dany arrives on the bridge at her station, Joseph is currently occupying his. Of course, he's being a Responsible Adult as you would anticipate. Meaning, not at all. He's got his feet up on the edge of his controls (don't worry, it's on autopilot) as he leans back in his seat, flipping through a comic book he managed to score on the station. Cloudy is curled up in his lap, snoring away though thankfully she doesn't reach the volume Joseph does. He glances in Dany's direction, giving her a small, two-fingered salute before looking back at his comic book.]

[Yes, he could be reading this comic book anywhere, but he's gotta stake out this pilot's seat from now until the end of time. You don't understand.]

Is that a dog? Where did you manage to find one?

[Cute, but it made her miss Drogon. He'd hardly fit in her lap, unfortunately.]

[Joseph looks from Dany to Cloudy, and back again.]

Oh uh. I was supposed to deliver her to someone, but they never showed. So, I just kept her.

[Meaning, he stole her. Don't let him tell you otherwise, Dany.]

[That's... definitely theft, Joseph...?!?! All the same, Dany has done some unsavory things herself so it doesn't matter to her overly much.]

I'm sure they're not expecting her at this point.

[Going to just reach out and pet this cute little dog now!! It's been a time since she's had any horses or other things that didn't end up food. Her dragons often ate goats and the like.]

[Cloudy starts awake, lifting her head abruptly and looking mildly alarmed. But alarm is quickly replaced by curiosity as she starts sniffing Dany's hand while also still wanting pats. It's complicated being a dog.]

If they were, they're gonna have a helluva time finding her.

[Yes, yes, he would pretend like he doesn't know what happened and hide the dog to keep her.]

[Cloudy was certainly a lot cuter than her owner, too! Though it isn't her fault he apparently likes stealing puppies. Dany does laugh a bit at his words, though.]

Yes, I'd imagine so.

[She won't press him about what else he might have stolen, for now.]

How long have you been aboard the Caprine?

[Because it's good business sense to learn a bit more about your shipmates, honestly.]

[At least he's not a risk for stealing babies like his boyfriend, okay.]

Since I got here. So uh... [He has to count it out. On his fingers. Hold please.] Seven months, going on eight. I don't think I could be on another ship at this point.

[It's the closest approximation to a home he's got here, anyway.]

I should hope not. You're our captain, after all.

[She was attempting humor? Or at least a compliment. While she may call herself a Queen, that didn't mean she couldn't follow others example. He hadn't killed them all yet so he was alright in her book.]

[Joseph opens his mouth and is about to correct her before he remembers: Mal isn't there anymore. That's going to take getting used to even though he really doesn't want to get used to it. He'd much rather Mal come back already even if he would absolutely never give back the captain's bed when she's not going to use it.]

Yeah, [he says instead, managing a smile.] Just bear with me for a little while though. I haven't exactly been the captain all that long. I mean, I had a good example from the captain before me, but I'm really not used to being in charge of anything.

Some are born to power, others are thrust into it. The fact that you are trying to use her example to learn for yourself what sort of leader you want to be is commendable.

[She had no examples, only stories from her childhood, a strong sense of justice, and dragons.]

Leading people isn't always easy, nor does it always lead to making the right choices. You do what is necessary, no more no less. I learned that much from home, at least.

You lead people back where you're from then?

[Just from the way she talks, it sounds like it, anyway. And now that the idea's been put in his head, she sorta carries herself that way, too.]

I am a Queen. I lead many people.

[But she also was willing to follow others who were worthy of it. He wasn't some vicious person like Viserys had been. He also was no Drogo, either, but still she followed him.]

[Joseph's eyebrows shoot right up.]

A queen? Why didn't you say something sooner?

Why should I have? It is not as if I demand special treatment from you or anyone else.

[She could but she knew that it wouldn't be right. There were kings and queens all over the fleet. Alistair and Robb; Riona was a noble woman. They did not demand things that she was aware of. The only thing she pushed for was not having to wear her awful fleet issued clothing and sometimes she enjoyed hiding in the Communications office to get some peace and quiet.]

[Even if she did demand, it's not like she'd get it. It's good that she's got the common sense for something like that. But even that aside,]

Yeah, but I mean. It's kinda important where you're from, right?

It is, yes. My people need me but I cannot return to them.

[Which does make her a bit sad, but everyone aboard the Caprine has been welcoming and she feels grateful for that.]

[Oh. He definitely did not intend to make her feel sad. Joseph is quiet for a couple of seconds before he speaks again.]

If it makes you feel any better, from what I hear, time doesn't really move while we're here. Back home, I mean.

That does make me feel better.

[She falls quiet herself, for just a moment.]

I want the Caprine to feel as much home to me as Mereen had.

[She feels as if she needs to clarify that a bit. She isn't completely unhappy, but she does miss home. She misses her dragons. She misses Misandei and her handmaidens who took such care with her. She did not have that here to ground her. Only herself and whomever she chose to rely upon. So far it had been no one.]
