[Luke Skywalker is sitting pensively in front of one of the wide windows on the Marsiva's Hospitality Deck. Rather than staring out into the darkness of space, he's bent over a tiny silver disk in his hands. It's open, revealing a series of wires, something mechanical and complex. Lacking any proper tools of his own, Luke is replying it with careful fingers and, occasionally, teeth.]

[Lacking any proper supplies, he's forced to improvise. At one point, he removes the glove on his right hand. There's a burn over the back, but the flesh cracks open to reveal more wires and mechanistry. Luke pulls some wires out, breaks them and inserts them into the disk. It seems to cause some of the fingers on his hand to twitch irregularly, but the disk is repaired. He presses a button, and a little blue holograph of a smiling couple appears.]

[He stares at it for a little while.]

[Finally, Luke notices that he's being recorded.] Hello, there. How long have you been on, hm? [He reaches over and turns off the feed.]

[Actually wait. A second later, Luke turns the feed back on.] I suppose if all of this is being recorded, I ought to introduce myself. I'm Luke Skywalker. It's a pleasure to meet you. [His smile kind of... twitches.] All of you.

You've heard of the dark side? [But not lightsabers?]

[You know how conversations wander.] Ahsoka mentioned it. It's not really a thing where I'm from. Although selfishness and dark deeds are.

There's darkness everywhere. The Force just means we're at a greater risk of it overtaking us. That's what being a Jedi means, accepting that risk.

Hm, I'll have to take your word on that. It's new to me. It's just bad choices and sometimes bad options as far as I know.

Why accept the risk?

For the chance of doing some good.

[He says it calmly and earnestly, without any hint of irony.]

[As far as reasons go, it's a pretty good one.] Have you?

[He considers it.] I hope so.

You have some good answers, Luke Skywalker the Jedi. [There's something calm about him she likes.]

Just 'Luke' is fine. [He chuckles.] I'm glad I passed, and I didn't even know there was a test!

[passingthrough]

[She smiles slightly.] I guess there always is with me. [Whether she means to or not. It's a protective instinct that was developed in a world that managed to be even more over-the-top than a floating reality show.]

There are a lot of people from your world here, aren't there? [She's met at least two that are at least from a similar world and she hasn't been here all that long.]

That sounds like an awful lot of work.

[He nods, maybe a little too excitedly.] There are. More than I was expecting, really. What about you?

Sometimes.

[The enthusiasm is understandable. At least she gets it.]

No one is ever from my world. [Such a downer, Kitty. Not that she's been here long, but that was how it always worked at the prison.] But there are people I recognize from similar worlds. Those alternate realities I mentioned before.

You seem to run into a lot of those. Do they recognize you as well?

[He thinks it would hurt, if they didn't; he can imagine it easily.]

This isn't the first place it's happened to me. [Explains some of the frequency?]

Most of the time. I actually got one person who recognized me even though I didn't know her. Kind of a first. [Not that she wishes anyone to be on the other side of it, but it didn't seem like they'd really been friends or anything.]

That seems like poor luck. [He's sympathetic, though in a different mode.]

What are the differences you've noticed? There must be some pattern to it.

Mm, if I ever meet who gives out the luck I'll have a few words for them. [Not that she really believes in luck, but the odds haven't played in her favor much of the time.]

A few things. The big thing being that someone had taken over most of the world by destroying a lot of it.

My old master would have told me to trust in the Force. [Which is like. Sentient luck. But also magic.]

Taken over the- destroyed your world? I'm so sorry, Kitty. That's happened to... some people I know. It's a terrible thing.

I always bring the party down with that one. Sorry to the people you know though. [Though her earth was doing better than Alderaan for sure.]

So, would you not tell me to trust in the Force then? [Disagreeing with this old master or just giving credit to him for the suggestion.]

Hardly bringing the party down. I'm only sorry to hear it's happened to more people.

I think... I think it's more complicated than just trust. Saying to just trust it can give the wrong impression. I can give you a lecture if you want, but I think you might find it a bit boring. [He wrinkles his nose in a smile.]

Well, I was taking classes just for fun, but I can probably skip the don't just trust the force lecture. I have enough trust issues that it wasn't going to happen anyway.

Well, the basic point of it was to trust what it tells you, not other people.

...Do I really sound like that much of a teacher?

You have a certain teacher vibe. I'm having to resist giving you an apple as we speak.

[Weakly, but not without humor,] What's an apple?

It's a kind of fruit. Just something generally associated as a gift for a teacher for some reason.

I suppose I'll take it as a compliment, then. I've never taught anyone in my life, you know. And I was a terrible student.
