Blameless gumball wishes and taxicab dreams

[On Today's Episode of Drift Fleet:

The cargo are still full of crates of gumballs! The ships are well booked past capacity! There's a new empty vessel in the fleet- the SS Blameless! Official alerts have informed the passengers that they are signed to contracts that they've never agreed to! They are still docked at the dazzling FS Starlight, but are flat broke (or have they made it big?)

[ well that's a mouthful, but he nods, hoping he'll even come close to remembering that. ] Right. Guess I answer to you, then. [ he's not very good at following orders which probably comes through as distaste. but it's not personal, he's excited to fly one of these things all the same. ]

Used to planes and dirigibles, mostly. I might be a little out of my depth. [ which is equally hard to admit. ]

[ Dirigibles? Ah, the airships. He remembered seeing those long ago, when he was on a mission with Anakin. ]

I would not say you answer to me. I'm not interested in having that kind of authority. However, I'm always happy to help.

[speedboat]

[ interesting. howard nods distractedly. ] You can help by showing me how to fly this thing.

[ like right meow would be preferable. ]

Certainly? If you'd follow me, please.

[ He leads him to the console and slowly talks him through it. You can tell that Obi-Wan is a teacher, or someone with ample experience with teaching because he pauses, takes time to ask questions, to check up on your understanding before moving on. ]

[speedboat]

[ for once howard doesn't have a whole lot of questions. mostly about controls, though those he learns quickly enough. he's a genius and the best civilian pilot peggy carter knows so he's up up and away pretty soon thereafter. ]

This is awesome. [ like really, in the original meaning of the word and all. ] It's like a motion picture. [ except you know with better special effects. ]

Picture? Ah, you must mean the holovids. Yes, it can be quite surprising if you're seeing it for the first time.

I'm afraid that kind of experience is lost on me.

[ Growing up in space and all. ]

Holivids. [ he likes that. tho it's bemusing to say the least how old hat this is for obiwan. ]

I take it you're one of the space-oriented ones. [ he's starting to think that... woman, or whatever she was was underselling it when she'd said most people hadn't been to space before. ]

I grew up in "space", so to speak. That's why I have an advantage.

[ Obi-Wan is a decent pilot even without the augment. He simply hates . . . flying. ]

That being said, your augment should help you fill in any gaps in your knowledge once you start off.

[speedboat]

Sweet. ...Does anything actually excite you? [ howard is having a blast mopey face. get with it. ]

[ Hm. He strokes his beard, thinking about it. He tends not to let himself get carried away. There is no passion, there is serenity is part of the Jedi Code and Obi-Wan follows it closely. ]

I enjoy a certain form of combat, I suppose. I tend to school myself on . . . passions.

[speedboat]

Passions. [ he lifts his eyebrows at that, turning back to the space scene before them. nope, still awesome. ] Well, I've gotta say, bub, you're missing out.

[beardstrokes]

[ . . . Bub. ]

I can assure you, I am not. I have seen quite a large part of the galaxy already.

[speedboat]

That's not what I'm talking about. [ how can obi wan sit in this chair and feel nothing? he's downright exhilarated. and as he goes to flip a few switches he realizes that his pilot augment is kicking in, knowing what he needs to do as if by muscle memory though he's never done this before. ] This is downright thrilling and you look like you're in a mortuary.

[beardstrokes]

[ Oh dear. He really hopes he wasn't on a ship with a flight maniac like Anakin. That might be a bit too much. ]

When you've flown one space craft, you've flown them all.

[speedboat]

You better be joking. [ he shoots him the MOST offended look. ]

[beardstrokes]

I am not. Why would flying be anything special to me? I've been doing it since I was young.

[speedboat]

I've been equating physics formulas since I was in diapers, pal. My excitement for it has only grown since then. [ get. hype. ]
