[So, this is something he's been wondering - and eventually, seriously considering - for the last couple of months, mostly when they landed on Arslae and he realized how ill-equipped he is to deal with conflict. For most people, it would simply be a matter of avoiding fights. But for him... well. It's kind of all he's ever been good for.

Getting told that, hey, one of your crewmates is a murderer is more or less the last straw to break through his indecisive camel back.]

I have a question, mostly for whoever's gotten personal those personal augment upgrades you can buy, or at least thought about it. I'd really like to know- what's it like? Which did you choose? Why would you choose to get one- or why not? I mean, the people offering them up aren't exactly trustworthy, but they all sound pretty useful, too.

Basically, I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons. I'd appreciate the help.

Let's see... first place we visited after I got here was this desert moon- it didn't even have a name, people just called it EA009. It felt like being in an old wild west movie. Hot, sandy, with a bunch of little towns scattered all over. And horses! Zebra-horses. They were a handful.

Then we went to Arslae, which was on the opposite end of the spectrum. The whole place was frozen over, and there were monsters and a whole pile of temples and ruins to explore. It was a great place to rack up combat experience, and there was a lot of interesting tech here and there. If you see any foxes on some of the other ships, that's where people got them.

And now, obviously, we've got this station to explore.

[ He murmurs to himself. ]

It's too bad Dune missed the desert moon...

[ And then, louder: ]

The foxes were popular, then? [ He's actually curious about that. ]

I got the impression that they were, yeah. Any time I walked past the places they were sold at, people were all over. And there's several people in my social circle who've got one.

[ He glances away. If Kirito is paying close attention before Shinjiro averts his face, he might notice a faint blush. ]

...Foxes are cute. I can't blame them. I'll check them out sometime.

[Oho. Someone has a weakness for cute things, maybe? Not that Kirito can blame him- they are pretty cute animals.]

Let me know if you have any trouble tracking one down. I could probably get one of my friends to bring theirs over.

[ He absolutely has a weakness for cute things. He clears his throat. ]

Well, I won't bother you too long. I was about to make some lunch- are you hungry at all? I can make a double batch of something.

Huh? Oh, thanks. I'd appreciate it. I still, uh, haven't figured out how to use....

[ He makes a face. He's really, really miffed about the protein stuff. ]

Oh, want to come along then? I'm no gourmet chef, but I know a few tricks with the lousy supplies they give us.

[ He shoves his hands into his pockets. ]

A few tricks? Now that, I'd really like to learn.

They're nothing special, so don't get excited. Just some good flavour mixtures.

It's a start, though. If I've gotta live off the stuff, I might as well know how to make it right.

[ And he follows Kirito, walking with long strides, slightly slouched as he moves. ]

[Once they arrive, Kirito immediately goes fishing for the spices and flavour packs, perusing their options.]

What do you like to eat back home? We can work on some alternatives.

I like to do a lot of experimenting. Um... Tomato pasta, sweet-and-sour pork, fried chicken, paella, omurice... okonomiyaki...

[ He glances over Kirito's shoulders at the options. ]

Well, we don't have tomato or pork, but we could probably recreate a sweet-and-sour flavour with the vinegar and sugar. Fried chicken... well, we've got various flavours for that, and we do have oil, though it'll just be chicken-flavoured protein. Omurice and okonomiyaki isn't too hard to get the flavour right, though the texture's weird and the filling is limited. What's paella?

[He pulls out a handful of the spices, setting them out on the counter to show off the selection. Thankfully the kitchen's fully upgraded, so they at least have all the options, limited as they are.]

It's a Spanish dish. It's rice, saffron, chicken, seafood, etc., cooked and served in a large shallow pan

[ He's watching what Kirito grabs carefully, making sure he knows what to do. ]

Hmm... that one could be tricky, then. No saffron, and only dried strips of fish for seafood. We can do chicken fried rice, though. Oh, and we've always got loads of teriyaki, so beef and chicken are easy. My favourite is beef teriyaki burgers fried in oil with bacon potato fries. Tastes awesome.

[Well, as awesome as synthetic food can get.]

Heh, that actually does sound pretty good.

[ He smiles slightly. ]

Want that for lunch, then? It's a pretty easy recipe, so it's a good place to start.

[ He nods once. ]

Yeah, I could go with that. [ He pauses briefly. ] Thanks.

No worries. Honestly, I make this one for myself more often than not.

[When it's all protein anyway, the fried stuff is sort of like a treat, really. He goes about getting the ingredients and mixtures set up, describing what he's doing as he goes. As it's being mixed, though-]

Do you cook much back home?

[ He nods slightly. ]

When I got a chance to. It's a hobby of mine.

You've got a head start on me, then, so you'll be fine. I used to make easy stuff on and off back home, but I only started cooking regularly for myself when I got here. It's been... interesting.

[Thankfully you're much less likely to set the kitchen on fire working with protein mush.]
