Does anything rhyme with silver? [somebody's finally trying his hand at writing poetry]

Also if anybody's seen the SS Huntress's welding torch, please let me know! It is a wreck in here, honestly. ...wait, maybe we don't have a welding torch.

[Sorey can be found half-buried in the guts of engineering, muttering words to himself as he tries to fit them into his rhyming scheme. Occasionally he'll crawl back out of the maintenance panel to write something in a grease-smudged notebook that contains...truly dire but very enthusiastic poetry.]

Moonbeams...

Oh my gosh, that's perfect! Wow, you seriously have a way with words. Okay! You have to help me out with the next part, you would not believe how few words rhyme with purple. And don't even get me started on lavender.

I can't say I do. I've never had much of a romantic soul.

[ Sure he's flirted with others from time to time, but he's never been verbose at it. And all his romances, so to speak, happen to be unconventional. ]

How about violet or mauve?

Mauve...no, definitely not mauve. Violet, maybe. Is there something in nature that's like, stunningly beautiful but also purple? I'm trying to think of something.

[ He knows what it is. He doesn't want to say it, but his mind rebels against him. ]

Satin. . . I believe. It's a kind of weave that tends to catch people's eyes.

Satin...hmm... Yeah, lot of recent noble families have used satin for their burial shrouds. That might work. [gonna write my romance poetry comparing the subject's eyes to burial shrouds]

Probably avoid that particular metaphor. I doubt it'll warm anyone's heart to hear their eyes match burial shrouds.

Liken it to a precious kind of clothing. That should work in your favour.

Oh that's okay, he'll probably think of burial shrouds first too. [They had a big talk about that a few weeks ago when they were in the Pendrago tombs.]

I don't think burial shrouds would fit in here for the syllable count anyway. Hmmm, so satin...ooh, 'glimmer' and 'shimmer' rhyme! I can totally use that. [worms his away out of the engine guts to start writing this down] I should probably wrap up this character intro and move on to the main storyline soon though. [after two pages of flowery description]

If I may ask . . . is there a reason you are trying to woo Mikleo with a sonnet?

Oh gosh, you think it's as good as a sonnet? Geez, I'm so flattered- I mean no, it can't be, it's nowhere near strict enough with the rhyming schemes, I'm still a novice, totally...

[ Vaguely bemused now ]

Am I? [what was he asking] Oh, I'm not trying to woo anybody. This is actually going to be a really long collection of everything I've done up until now. I'm giving everybody really vivid character descriptions to set the mood, since a lot of people can't see seraphim.

And you're going to write it in the form of poetry.

That seems like quite the goal you've set for yourself.

Well, Mikleo's already writing the book of our adventures. Which I'll help him with, of course, but it's going to be largely academic. I wanted to write something more...y'know, emotional.

[ He softens a little. It's been some time since he's faced such genuine feeling. The Force hums in agreement. ]

Well, your heart is in the right place but it might be a little hard to gleam intense feeling if you're sticking to a perfect form.

Simply let the feelings flow and the words will follow.

Really? That'd be all right? [looking kind of hopeful at that] I figured it had to follow all the guidelines for it to be real poetry. I usually don't do a lot of artistic stuff, so...

If your feelings are there, then it shouldn't matter. Isn't that what makes art great? When you are able to follow the feelings that are placed there for you?

Yeah, I guess you're right. [Sorey's been approaching this from an archaeologist's perspective: keep the style uniform so it's easier to date if someone finds it later. He's found himself wishing that whenever they stumble over a fresco with conflicting techniques and end up arguing over its period of origin, but now he's getting the idea from the artist's perspective. It's a little more complicated than just making sure it sticks around for future generations, isn't it?] As long as it invokes emotion in the reader, it's still art even if it isn't perfect. Thank you.

I'm simply sharing what art feels like, in my experience.

Are you into art? Like a collector, or avid appreciator? I usually only examine it to date it or learn about history, but you seem to appreciate it on a more emotional level.

Jedi can sense these things.

You can? That's incredible. You mean actual feelings, like it's an obvious tangible thing?

In a manner of speaking, yes. Even the kind of emotions in the air, during a terrible event and so on, Jedi can sense and perceive.

Man, no wonder you can see Mikleo so clearly. You must have incredibly high resonance. -or your world's equivalent, rather.

I suppose. I doubt I am the strongest Jedi by any means, but I'm passable in terms of strength.

[ As usual, he's downplaying himself. Obi-Wan may not be as strong in the Force like Anakin or Yoda, but he's powerful in his own right. ]

Do you have any trouble with being able to sense that on the ships? They're such close quarters, so do you ever get any bleed over from other people?
