She looked so much like someone I used to know. So much that I hesitated, but... when I got her to safety, I couldn't stop thinking about her.

[He hangs his head in shame] I shouldn't have done this, especially when I knew she wouldn't remember me, but when I enrolled in Mystic Falls High that following fall, I made it a point to know her. I figured, maybe she was related to that girl, or maybe my eyes were seeing things or... something.

Actually, yeah. Turns out she's a descendant of that other girl, and this is where it gets weird - Elena and that girl, Katherine? They're doppelgangers.
