[ -- so, there is one crew-member who hasn't exactly been around. one might even think she'd been conspicuously absent, but with a whole station's worth of diversions beyond the docking bay, it's entirely possible she's spent the last while roaming the streets. so to speak.

it's a few days after the blameless's addition to the fleet that this lag-behind cook rejoins her mates. she's got a bag slung over her shoulder and seems to have picked up some decent threads in the station's garment district despite both her newness and the fleet's financial crisis. she has clint barton to thank for that.

striding down the corridor, she comes to...a pair of legs. huh. she's about to step over them and continue about her business, when: ]

Uh, what's a hyperspanner?

[There's some shuffling, and after a month a panel in the wall opens. Luke is sitting behind it, and he pokes his head out. There's a smudge of engine grease in his hair, sticking a clump of it down to his eyebrow.]

It's the yellow one. Have we met?

[ladybro]

[ ok, so her fingers are on the yellow one but by now luke's come out from hiding and she's stuck staring at -- yeah, kate knows that face. awkward. her nose kinda crinkles with an instant of recognition, but she tries to brush it off. ]

I really don't think we have. [ a little high-pitched. a little uncomfortable. but she recovers quickly, and forgoes a handshake for the sake of handing him his hyper-whatever. ] Kate Bishop. Hi.

[t65]

[Luke notices... something's off, but he's trying to be better about reading people through the Force if he can help it. He just files it away for later and moves on.] Oh! [He squirms a little and eventually pulls himself out of the wall paneling. Still rumpled and grease-smudged, his smile is nonetheless bright.]

You're the cook! I saw your name on the roster. It's nice to finally meet you. [Now he holds his hand out for a shake.] Luke Skywalker. I'm the captain. Well, for now, anyway.

[ oh my god, he doesn't just look like mark hamill. kate wishes billy was here. and teddy. they'd faint, sure as eggs. but she tries to be gracious. after all, she's no stranger to new york's red carpets. meeting famous people -- hell, even meeting famous avengers -- has primed her well to be cool about this.

but still. a fictional person? she'll have to talk to clint about that. really suss it out. for now, she puts her hand firmly in luke's and gives it a good shake. ]

Cook. Right. Sorry about the tardiness. I had some business on the station the last few days.

Oh, it's fine. We were all busy. [For example, someone stabbed Azula. That's pretty busy!] I'm glad you're here now! If there's anything you need, let me know. I'm the captain-- well, for now, apparently.

[Good question, Kate!] I... I'm not sure. My name was just listed as 'Captain' on the roster. I guess it could be by command experience, but... [They even let Han be a captain.]

Could be.

[ but she doubts it. after all, she's met the fire princess. and she already 'knows' logan. and then there's kate, herself -- with a handful of years under her purple belt leading the young avengers. establishing hierarchy by experience would have to be either too precise or far too imprecise a science. maybe it's as good as a dice roll, but so long as those dice chose luke freaking skywalker... ]

Whatever. I'm good with it. Affirmative, Captain.

[Luke laughs.] You don't have to call me 'Captain'. I might not even be Captain for much longer. [But he appreciates the loyalty, and it shows in the growing fondness of his expression.]

[ incisively curious. kate wastes no breath on beating 'round bushes. ]

Oh, a young girl who was assigned to the Blameless wanted to be captain as well, so we decided to... vote on it. [Logan thought this was dumb, so Luke brings it a bit more... hesitantly?]
